passive air intakes are for fucking shower rooms you fucking idiot not stinking grow rooms.
Wow, someone hit a nerve. Flo, shame on you....HA. And I thought you said you've never heard of a passive intake...now you know what there use is? And weed, moisture/smell from a bathroom...it's all the same. I use chicken wire on weed, that's not what it's made for. This is a hobby with all kinds of nigrigging (Not Racist...and if you get upset, I'm flippin it...your racist).

passive intake means natural internal pressure, natural internal pressure means smelly, dont tell me about venting grow rooms i have been doing it for years and to let a shed run normal internal pressure in the baking hot sun is suicide, hey, buy yourself a gas mask for walking near your shed. i have been hiding grow rooms for years. not trying to vent pc towers and cupboards. i have got hidden ducting everywhere, i am doing three just now in three bedrooms of a house, with a 12 metre run to a nice air escape zone, it is an 8" acoustic duct which works out about 12" with all the outside acoustic padding, i am running it along the corner of a ceiling for 10 metre along a hallway, after all the rooms have been turned in to grows except the lounge anyone entering will not know a thing, after the ceiling has been lowered and all the ducts are hidden under it, the bedrooms all have rooms within the rooms. and not one will be passive air intake, all will be negative pressure, with passive air intakes i would be as well calling the cops myself.

weegog you look like a sweet weed smokin baby but you sound like a grumpy old man!
A passive intake is completely functional and CHEAP! you will not smell anything out of it if the outlet is 1. filtered and 2. at a much higher cfm rate then the inlet.
You are not relying on 'natural internal pressure you are forcing air in through one location and forcing it out through another.
If the shed is sealed well which is easy enough to do all air comes in through passive inlet = no smell possible from there and all air leaves through outlet which should be filtered and at a higher location so even if a damn wiff escapes it is above the neighbors noses. And yes the carbon scrubber and fan need to be as large as you can afford up until you see the walls sucking in from the pressure lol

LOL,

Well I'm glad i know which thread to go to when i want a good laugh. Dudes, max and relax, it's easy to get touchy and pissed in a thread full of testosterone!!

Since everyone here is only giving information from the goodness of their heart, lets try to be cool with each other.

As far as advice is concerned i'd personally give whatever Flo sz a thought or two before I just toss the ideas. Dude has pretty sound advice if you look through the posts, or experience the love yourself.

Weegog - I haven't checked you out bro, but on this one I think the angles and budget was too much..... The passive versus active intakes is marginal when someone is asking for KEY WORD (Cheap)

C'mon everyone blaze up.... Enjoy the night!! Hey what can be better the Lakers play again!!!!! :D

You never heard of passive intake yet you claim to be Mr Tool Time with your 3 room grow.
Then you clearly show you're a hippocrite by coming back to post a WRONG definition of something YOU stated you never heard of.
Passive intake/cooling MEANS nothing that consumes energy, such as fans and pumps, are used.
Look up Passive House Project, smart guy.
Europe has 25,000 houses and buildings utilizing PASSIVE INTAKE/COOLING to lessen their carbon footprint.
Read a book if you can, called The Solar House: Passive Heating and Cooling.
And let's not forget all the books on growing MJ that mention passive or active (using fans and pumps in case you haven't heard of that too) intake to cool and EVEN heat a grow space.

Now your comparing a commercial op with an individual, small and CHEAP grow space.
You can tell us about all this elaborate duct work you put together, without pics, to cool and control odor yet you can't help design a CHEAP way for this person to solve THEIR problem.
Then you get pissed and call names because the simple design was TOO HARD for you to grasp.
Have you read the post made by others offering simple, cheap AND effective options.
All which include passive intake from under the shed and using a filter, screen and even panty hose (which does work damn well.....lol).

The fact of the matter WeeGogs, is that your WeeBrain doesn't know a damn thing.
You're weak
You're simple minded
You're King Troll
But the real sad part is, you keep refusing to take your meds buddy !!
How long have you been sitting in front of your computer in those same 5 day old underwear and t-shirt ?
Stop yelling at your Mom for knocking on your bedroom door because she loves you and is only trying to help.
Also, Aluminum Foil helmets don't really block the Martians from scanning your brainwaves either, okay !
You need a 7.62 x 39mm in your head, to make those voices go away.
If you need any, I have two.....I mean 2 one thousand round cases of it and will gladly send you 1 round.
Huh ? Oh, no need to thank me.......it's the LEAST I can do !
TTYL........that's called an ACRONYM.......say it WITH me........AH---CRO---NYM.
I SAID NYM, NOT NEEM !!
See, you're not listening again.
Oops, I better let you go now.
It's your bedtime.
Don't forget to put on your Depends before going to bed.

I really apologize Shizz.
This boy has a tendency to do this to peoples threads.
The question has been answered though, by a few of us, including WeeBrain.

so he asks for cheap easy ideas and you have him digging trenches and running inlines through 90 degree turns?as opposed to the simplest method of making a passive intake hole?why not just tell him to buy a ceiling fan and build another room underground that all the air sucks into this room via the fan...where in the room there is a army of helper midgets that walk back and forth with carbon scrubbers
Ok... I've never laughed so hard when I read this in a long time... thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to go with passive covered up with screens or carbon filter screen for light, sand ect. I'm just worried that the exhaust fan will pull from the top where there is a gap and the passive hole will just be a hole. Its a 8 inch inline and a 8 inch carbon filter that is 22 in long. Will that stop the smell during flowering?? Thanks again everyone

More info... the shed is under the shade of a huge tree. The exhaust would blow pretty much right into someone elses backyard. There are small openings inbetween the wood floor of the shed, I was thinking a trash bag stapled to the ground for light and air leaks. Also I do plan on running the hps at night because its normal to get around a 100 in the summer...

Did you post the size of the area you will be growing in ?
L x W x H
How many CFM's is the 8in fan your using ?
With enough and the right amount of negative pressure, your holes won't just be holes.
Instead they'll become wind tunnels pulling in cool air from outside.
In order for this to be the most effective, you can't have any compromising air leaks in the grow area to be exhausted.
Go in the during the day, close the door and put yourself in complete darkness.
If you can see any light leaks, then you also see air leaks into the grow room.
Not to mention open passages for bugs and critters.
You have to be able to NOT see anything in the darkness, including your own hand touching your nose.
Mount the fan and filter at the highest point you can since heat rises.
Also mount it horizontal or vertical with no bends if possible to get maximum pull.
If all is done right, you should be able to see nothing BUT instead hear air moving.

first is the mental steps which you are doing, thinking, planning, asking questions.
Take complete measures of your space. Oh and by the way if you haven't already get a log book and start to journal your grow. The sooner you start writing down your thoughts, findings and results the better it will be for you.
First physical steps would be to get any crap outta there that doesn't belong.
Then as mentioned go into the shed in daylight and look for large cracks and such and seal them up. Expandable foam, silicone or other depending on the size of the crevasse..
Next I would get some medium to strong construction grade plastic and tape and seal up the room.

agreed, weecogs dont know shit about growing. im on my very first grow and i would do as another guy said. i would put a 6" hole in the bottom of your shed, staple some pantyhose to cover the hole. make sure u have a little oscillating fan next to your thriving herb. and your exaust fan on the top. if your worried about smell, (u might need to spend 20 bucks and i know u said cheap) but go to any online store and have a carbon filter (any kind really) shipped to you. when u get the filter, cut it to the same size as your exaust fan and use elastics to secure it to your fan. i built my own grow tent from wood and poly film. its about the same size as your space, only difference is i intake from my window not the floor. my current temp is 74 with the humidity at 41%. good luck

The room is 3 and a half by 3 and a halfish and 6 feet tall. The shed however goes up to 7 feet. So there is a foot gap right about wwhere I'm going to put the exhaust. Trash bags or something to block off the last foot? The fan is 250 or 500 with the booster on. I have a huge carbon filter already that is 8 inch by 22 inch. Ill post some pics of the shed tommorrow.
