Guerrilla Warfare - Part 2 - Diesel Ryder, Auto Blueberry, Auto Assassin

I would contribute it to randomness as well, if it were not two different strains. Anyways. My friend just received a blue cheese baby as well as a mystery month old plant with purple leaves. He is also starting off a Dinafem Diesel freebie.

Hopefully that's enough dice to roll well.
Listen, ask anyone you know or ask around here on RIU, and they'll tell ya the same thing:

larger containers = larger plants.

There's nothing mystically wrong in the cosmos that's damning your plants: it's just random.

That Auto Assassin looks nice. I've grown the Diesel Ryder and the Blueberry before. I prefer the Diesel over the Blueberry. By the way, what is your soil mix?

As far as pot size goes, I agree that bigger pots "in theory" means bigger plant size. However "theory" is not the same as "reality" when it comes to growing autos outdoors.

Checked and watered all the females (didn't water the Diesel Ryder and Auto Blueberry males...their soil was moist enough).

They're all looking great! :weed:

Even the Diesel Ryder (which I had my doubts about for the last few weeks) is coming around, filling out nicely, with some decent branching. Just wish its counterpart in the male Diesel Ryder wasn't such a wimpy, stretchy example.

At any rate, I'll get some nice seed off this little lady, as I can see 4 really perfect lower branches with tight pistil clusters.....which should make for some decent seeds (hopefully!).

The Diesel Ryder's main stalk and cola are filling in nicely too.

The Auto Blueberries are filling out nicely too; even the two smaller ones are developing nice pistil clusters. One of the smaller ones is only 2 1/2 inches, the other is about 8 inches.

Thankfully I have one really nice mother that is just under 2 feet tall and bushy...she'll make a nice seed mother. I'll be seeding the other two out also, but carefully separating the seeded mothers once it gets time to dry them out and cure.

The Auto Assassins are filling in too, and I have two really exceptional examples of mothers I want to pollinate. One mother is just over 2 feet tall, bushy with lots of branching. I did find two male balls on it (which I pulled), but I haven't seen any other signs of it being a male or herm.

The other Auto Assassin mother I've chosen is very short, but the branchiest of all the Autos. It's a perfect height, has a TON of pistil clusters, and it showed it's sex early.

I have a video too, which I'll be putting up a little later.

I also have some video of the male Diesel Ryder and male Auto Blueberry, along with some pics of that male plot that I'll be adding later too.

I grew 3 autos (2 blueberry, 1 diesel) in one 5-gallon bucket, and all 3 ended up much smaller in size compared to the other autos, which had their own 5-gallon bucket.

The size of your growing medium matters with plants.

Experience tells me so.

I understand. How many of those particular auto strains have you grown outdoors in pots before?

Zero.

My experience with how plants use larger containers to their advantage doesn't start and end with planting these autoflowers and finding out; it's a universal truth with almost any plant, especially with cannabis, which include autoflowering strains.

That's a very general statement you are attributing to a very narrow, specific situation. We're talking about plants that have an entire lifecycle of about 10 or 11 weeks. According to your results, your BIGGEST plant is only 18 inches tall - in a FIVE GALLON bucket. Is it your contention that a 10 gallon bucket would have produced a bigger plant? It is simply not possible for an 18 inch tall plant, and it's accompanying root structure, to make use of 5 gallons of dirt in a scant 70 - 80 days. Your root balls will be about the size of a grapefruit. You could have planted those same strains in 2 gallon pots and achieved the same results. Might've been a little easier on your back.

I know this because I've grown these exact strains, outdoors, in pots of varying size, all less than 5 gallons. I've also grown regular photoperiod plants. You cannot attribute the characteristics of a plant grown in a pot for 9 months to that of one grown in a pot for 70 days. That makes no sense. It's height is mainly regulated by TIME, something which you have no control over.

I have noticed that indoor auto growers produce bigger plants and better yields. It seems they thrive under artificial, longer light sessions.

I'm guessing your soil mix is a secret? If so, that's cool. I take the lazy way and just by Fox Farms stuff.

Here's a fairly long (sorry, brevity isn't a skill of mine when I'm high) video of the auto strains:

Everything is looking great man. The blue widow my friend is doing, which stunted, decided to grow again. Huzzah!

First male popped on the auto AK's, so he's going to be the pollinator.

My friend could not find auto assassin beans anywhere online. Do you have any suggestions?

Everything is looking phenomenal though. Even though he's only a few weeks behind, hopefully his will be looking like that soon.

Peace

Hey hey!

How are things going? My friends AK and La Diva all popped female except for that one male. What was your plan for pollination? Any helpful hints on timing and such?

Thanks,

K

I separated and pollinated 2 Auto Assassin, 3 Auto Blueberry, and 1 Diesel Ryder.

Each strain is substantially far enough away and shielded from any cross pollination's from each other.

I didn't capture my pollination technique on camera, as I was way too busy with what was going on to do it.

I spent 4 hours out there, separating, pollinating, and transplanting.

Once each strains location was chosen, and the plants were moved to their respective positions, I took a baggy full of male pollen from each male strain in my male plot to each female strains location.

Complete change of clothing and washing was necessary once I collected the pollen and placed into the individual baggies....before I went out to the female plots.

I luckily had 20 extra gallons of clean water to wash myself and the outside of the baggies, to kill and collect any stray pollen that might have collected.

Maybe it was overkill, but I wanted to make every effort to keep certain aspects as clean as possible.

So I have 3 different Auto plots setup, with 1 of the plots being the original main plot. I left a Jack The Ripper female and 4 Auto Assassin females in the main plot, grouped 2 of my best Auto Assassins and the Jack into one corner, and pollinated all 3 plants with Jack The Ripper pollen.

The resulting cross of Auto Assassin X Jack The Ripper should prove an interesting hybrid.

I can say with confidence that the resulting hybrids from Auto Assassin X Jack The Ripper should be unreal. Short and bushy, with huge Sativa fan leaves and multi-branching....that's what I'm hoping for.

For Auto Blueberry, I completely pollinated the 3-inch and 8-inch females, and pollinated just the bottom half of the tallest Auto Blueberry.

For the Diesel Ryder, I completely pollinated the entire plant.

I placed a bag full of pollen around the branches I wanted pollinated, puffed it around a bit by tapping the sides of the bag, let it sit for a few minutes, carefully removed, and continued on each branch I wanted pollinated.

Many of the male pollen pods were still undeveloped, but many were developed enough to produce visible pollen floating around in the bag.

It actually rained about 15 hours after I pollinated the plants, which is ideal, as it killed any randomly extra pollen that didn't come in contact with any female pistils.

This should cut down on any random cross pollination's from nearby plants.

***All Autos are 60 days old from germination***

Plants look great! I love what the sun does to plants. Looks like you only have a month or so left on those plants. We appear to be on about the same schedule so out plants should finish about the same time. I wonder if mine will finish a bit earlier since mine are under 20 hours of light a day. Also, mine are starting to smell so you are lucky yours are outside!

Yea the nice thing about the sun is that plants get huge and bushy (usually), but like I say in the video, I've got two things going against me outside, at this time:

1). Spring sunlight (which comes in at a less-convenient angle on these plants) is not as intense as Summer sunlight
2.) Little direct, early sunlight, until 10 a.m. or so, to maintain the hidden status of this guerrilla plot.

I wholeheartedly believe that autos perform better indoors, especially with 20-24 hours of direct light. I guess that's why I want seed so bad from all of these: I know in the future I'll be able to setup many different indoor grow sites (mine and friends) with seed produced from this spring pollination.

Yep, these will be chopped in 3-4 weeks...or as soon as I think the seed pods are fully developed.

Like I said in another thread of yours, I wish I could get some of the seed you produce! Too bad we don't live near each other. At least I am assuming.

My friends should be done about a week after you. I'm quite pleased with the description of your pollination technique, it is one I think will be used.

Also. PM sent.

Keep rockin'.

I moved all the Autos back to the main grow area.

I pollinated them last week, and then they went through a rain storm soon after pollination, so they should be safe to be close together in the same plot.

I like keeping them all together, inside the safer confines of my fenced in plot, rather than scattered all around the plot.

Some will bemoan and preach about how obvious these bunched plants would be from the air...but I'm not buying that garbage.

Location, location, location.
It's all about location.

They're also safer from 4-legged creatures and pests within the confines of the enclosed plot, so I can worry less about all the deer that actually live and sleep in this guerrilla location of mine. It's nice to not have to worry about hunters too.

Not sure if the pollination's took effect though. I noticed visible pollen puffing out of the pollen sacks, so I know there was pollen floating around. I'm just not sure if any of it took effect yet.

I dunno, we'll see in the coming weeks.

Here are the plants:

Wow, all the plants look AMAZING! They're all starting to thicken up on their buds, and most pistils are forming tighter clusters. Pistils are also starting to turn orange, which looks really amazing when dried!

The Auto Blueberry is for real it looks like! I air-dried a few Auto Blueberry buds the other day, and not only does it smell fruity, but when it dried, the orange hairs really started to show up, over the darker/blueish background of the dried bud.

This would have just amazing bag appeal in large amounts. All these Autos have been flowering in earnest for at least FOUR WEEKS.

On another positive note, I think my pollination's have all been successful!
:hump:

I'll be able to report for sure in probably another week...but all signs are looking good!

I'm really looking to harvest these in a few weeks.

Things are gonna smell so fruity and aromatic around here!

On a final note, of the dried buds I smoked, all gave me their own unique high, but it soon faded as you'd expect from such early picked buds. The THC still has that up/trippy high to it, but it fades after an hour. The great thing is, you don't feel burned out at all.

Here are some pics:

(NOTE: I was unable to finish taking pictures of the Auto Blueberry, as my camera batteries died. I did get a lot of pics of the Auto Assassin and Diesel Ryder though.)

I know you keep saying location location location and safer in pots etc etc , but lets get down to basics here mate... I think your forgetting something here. The plant will grow much taller much faster much stronger with a big area for roots to span, obviously in your argument you could use bigger pots but i think what your forgetting is the water issue, see in your buckets there soil only can hold so much moisture, and as a man that im sure has dug a deep whole before even during a drought will know that the soil is moist the further you go... NOW with that being said your issues with "Deficiencies and such" Will have become less and less, unless the reason why you keep saying location location is because your constantly moving them to get the best light then i could see why you keep telling us to bug off lol but honestly i would love to take you up on a challenge if your up to it those seeds your working on sound like an awesome thing you have going so let me know when you need testers ;)
