Some Posts on These Forums are Very Hard to Read

Most posts on RIU are well written, and communicate what the poster is trying to say.

But I do see a fair amount of posts that have severe issue with spelling, grammar, punctuation. Some are so bad I have no clue what the poster is saying. I don't see that a lot elsewhere on the internet.

Curious as to what you all think is the reason. We all know that our favorite medicinal herb doesn't make you stupid. (well, maybe temporarily!) :-P

Texting, along with Twitter, are to a large degree responsible.

In addition, some members of the forum do not understand that one cannot write as one speaks and expect to be understood.

They write like half-wits with frightfully small, and dwindling, attention spans.

hahaha, true! Yeah, texting is likely one of the reasons. My typing sucks, I make mistakes all the time.

I mean shit, I'm going to be a parent some day and I'll be damned if anyone tries to blame my poor parenting for my childs lack of education/lack of interest in education. I mean that's the damn governments job right? Motivate my damn kids so I don't have to worry about that shit. Obama needs to pick up the slack.

Can't explain them all but most of the time I've found that is was someone that was in another country and or doesn't speak English very well.

i tend to think its a result of texting.. everyone who texts doesn't usually type out the words fully and use all kinds of crazy ass abbreviations for words and groups of words..
i know that i'm guilty of this when i text, but when i come to forums, i try and leave that shit on my droid and not here or on other forums i'm on.. for gods sake, typing coherently isn't that had to do imho..
and i saw that response dude typed in the thread about dude crying about the prices at disp. so i know it was there too, i hadn't noticed that it got deleted though as i couldn't take that dudes crying and haven't really revisited the thread too much except for when i get another like for telling the dude to show a lil gratitude about being fortunate enought to live some where where he can walk into a store and buy some killer bud..

i've seen this as well, but most of the time you can tell when the person who is typing english isn't their first language.. and i never have a problem with these type of people as they surely speak english better or even type it better then i can type any other language..

I don't understand why It's so hard to make the effort!

A typing error is different to intentionally typing with incorrect spelling or grammar. It's also different to not caring when one does so. As well as being plain saddening, it makes things harder to read for others. As someone with Dyslexia, I can appreciate the importance of making your writing clear! It also goes to show there's no excuse.

Typing informally is not the same as typing like a complete idiot. I KNOW I habitually use alot of ellipses, diminutive forms, phrases and emoticons; at least my posts are still legible and not a completely disgraceful example of the English language. No one's perfect, but I try.

Honestly I haven't come across one single post that I haven't been able to read or understand because of bad grammar or spelling. Although it is difficult its not impossible. I'd be much happier if people would stop activley trying to piss each other off. Seems to be some sort of sport for some in which they are either competing or practicing to compete...WTF people.

What I get a kick out of are posts where they try to sound as ghetto as possible. You just know that they had to sit there and figure out the right spelling and choice of ghetto words to use. Hilarious.
