The buckets are connected to a 20 gallon res. 3 times per day they flood for 15 minutes and exchange nute solution. Res is located out of the room, and stays around 65 degrees. This is how I combine the DWC and ebb and flow. Next batch will be a rockwool cube ebb/dwc combo, I'm hoping for better growth early.
Nice, you have a very advanced setup here. Can't wait to see those Vortex finish! Keep up the good work my friendbongsmilie

I'm waiting till I see just a few amber trichomes. They have been clouding up, and must be very close.
If it were my garden, I'd be chopping now given the sativa dominance of this strain. That's just a preference of mine but it looks fantastic, well done! How does she smell?

Did the chop last night :)
I'll try to get some pics of the drying nugs.
Smell was very floral, kinda skunky. Like stomping through a field of Colorado skunk cabbage.
Nugs are very dense, far denser than the durban. The plants did not stretch too much, I'll grow bigger girls in the future.
I left behind the stumps and some lower branches since I don't have anything ready to put under the light.

Did you weigh it wet?

This grow is complete. Bud is dry, and curing away. Yield was about 3.5 zips per plant.
The vortex grew into a nice bush, with even disbursing of buds. None of the buds got very big. The buds did get nice and frosty, but never really gave off much stink.
Curb appeal is about a 7
smell, about a 7
potency, about a 7
I have some clones going, and hope to get these numbers up to an 8 or 9 in future grows.

I've got another couple rounds of this strain going. I'm trying to slow down the bud time a little, the first round ready at day 48. I would like to see better bud production, the first and second round are producing very small buds. The buds structure seems off a little too, they are mostly just swollen empty calyxes with little else in the bud structure.
The vortex does not like being close to the light, and starts getting heat stress with leaf surface temps at just 82.
The main tops do not get bigger buds than the secondary branches, all the same small buds.
the final yield is still there, but no big buds.

The Vortex is leaving me very frustrated! I still can't get a decent bud to grow, just a whole lot of these little buds with no "bag appeal". I've cooled my room down to 77 max, and tried feeding a little higher EC., still not happy with the nugs. I'm growing a couple clones at a time, and have completed 2 already. Both have been sticky, but weak looking. My buds seem to be only stacked calyxes, none of the other leafy matter that makes up a bud. The setup that worked for durban so well is not working on the vortex, or this pheno is just going to grow this way no matter what.

Today I added a small heater to the room, temps were dropping to 64 at night. I'll try to get them up to 70 for a nightly low.

I'm going to try a higher ratio of Nitrogen for early and mid flower. I'm also going to try a round with some left over GH flora I have left.

I would love to hear some thoughts on why my vortex refuses to make eye candy buds.

I'm going to the dispensary today to grab something different, but TGA is all they carry. I'll look for something with no apollo 13 in it.

Yeah, those are crazy. I have some vortex seeds but haven't popped any yet. I am interested in why they do this as well.

Personally I think those buds look awesome, but I'm a sativa guy and that's what I expect to see when dealing with sativa dominant strains. I don't know how vortex smokes so if it isn't filling your personal jars then it may be time to look for a better pheno or another strain all together.

EDIT: I would also question the quality of the clones coming from a dispensary. Does it make sense for them to sell their best cuts to their customers?

HB, I grew this from a pack of TGA seeds, and will be trying another round by seed as well. I've had bad luck getting clones.. root aphids, powder mildew, and spider mites have all showed up on clones.

Oh, so you're getting beans from the dispensary? How many vortex beans have you grown out so far? I've heard you can get a lot of variation with subcool's seeds which I think is less than ideal.
