I wouldn't suggest it, Kelp is an organic molecule in a DWC System you want to shy away from anything organic.. it can feed problems more then help in most cases.

yea kelp in organic and so is the molasses and if the bennies eat the molasses so multiply wouldnt they just do the same with the kelp or any other organic molecule. Couldn't you theoretically use any organic material to brew the tea? kelp, leanardite, molasses? The bennies should eat it right? maybe just less of one if you add another. Im not sure because I have never brewed the tea getting my 1st batch going today and was thinking if some GH florialicious plus would help..I just have a bunch and want to use it up. Any opinions?

So far this stuff is trully amazing.

I built my system from the ground up. We call it "Deepwater Aero" and it is just that, a combo. 20 gallon garbage cans, 6 inch net pots, sprayers surrounding the rootzone just below the net pots, and an 8 inch deep pool of water at the bottom. 170 gallons of water constantly circulating. Basically it gets just about the best of both worlds, however, being deepwater, it is also very prone to the slime. Up until a recent move everything had worked great sterile but I just switched to Heis' tea and it has worked like a charm. I've seen my fair share of amazing root growth but this is unbelievable. I had never been able to use Roots Exccelerator because of the H2O2 but since beating the slime and using the tea I finally get to see what it can do. Holy shit! Highly recommend RE once the slime is under control. I just wanted to vouch one more time for the tea. It trully makes growing fun again!

i measured the ppm of the tea today and it said 425ppm (at .5 conversion). I run my veg uc at 300ppm. So every time i add tea, i need to dilute the nutes that the plants need. Is this normal?
I keep adding tea per the instructions...my flower unit is awesome, no problems. My veg unit keeps getting biofilm on the roots and the root growth is slow. I am able to shake the roots and they come clean, but it keeps reoccurring.
I run botanicare pbp bloom and calmag in veg. Maybe its time for synthetics nutes in veg?

my tea recipe...
5 gal RO water
125 ml aquasheild
80 ml sweet
5 handfuls of anceint forest
5 ml root excel
1 scoop of great white at the beginning
1 scoop of zho 3 hours before end

damn just my luck. 24 hr into the brew and power outtage. Im such a freak that I started to blow into the bucket w/ my siphon then I started laughing at myself thinking this is ridiculous so I started to scoop it w/ a cup and dump it back into the bucket to air raid it then that started to suck so I went and got another bucket and started to dump it back and forth lol. I couldn't do it constant though maybe like every min or two it foamed every time and had no bad smell. This lasted for about 30min.

Do you think this will be a problem? Should I start a new brew? I dont wanna lose the 1st 24 hr of the brew.

I dont need it to to bad but it seems like whenever I transition a tub to flower the slime wants to take over I dont know why this is but it never fails. Maybe its from the stress of going from 24hr light to 12/12? Im trying to hold out for this tea to use on my next transition which is suppose to be tomorrow.

Im really no pro at this tea but im on here so I figure ill throw a idea in the air about your tea...I think the sweet is your problem maybe adding to much but like I said im no pro. but the bennies probably arnt consuming all of that sweet 1st. And it seems like whenever I use botanicare sweet or technafloras sweet on my young vegging plants the same thing happens to them. Then it turnes to the slime. I think that a lot of the sweetners have organic substances in them but I dunno hopefully someone can enlighten us more.

First off, Sweet has multiple nutes in it and you're adding a ton of it, which is why it's reading at 400+ppm. although it has been stated you can use it as a food source for the bennies, 80ml is too much. we're using 1Tbsp per 2Gal of molasses. So you should really be using around 30ml of Sweet. Do not use Roots Excel, it has anaerobic bacteria in it. You definitely do not want these to breed. Also Botanicare PBP has many organic compounds in it. Most people use synthetic nutes for veg and if desired will use organic nutes in flower. Also you don't need 5 handfuls of Ancient Forest. The idea of brewing the tea is to take the existing bacterias and breed them into the billions. Adding excessive amounts of ingredients upfront would only serve to unbalance certain types of bennies. And you should never need to dilute your nutrient regimen just to add tea.

try this:
5 gal RO water
60ml Aquashield
30ml Sweet
3 handfuls Ancient Forest
1 scoop Great White
1 scoop ZHO (1-2 hours out)
NO Roots Excel

SO I got the tea running in my diy UC system. I cut all the roots back and they have bounced back nicely.

Given our increased levels of D.O. the UC does make a pretty
good bio tea brewer, but… we do recommend very dilute
amounts of inoculants to be added to the systems. Unlike a
tea brewer, the solution in the UC is intended to be
recirculated for prolonged periods of time. Most tea brewing
cycles should conclude between 24-72 hours. Teas in hydro
water culture systems can build up harmful bio films resulting
in potential pathogen outbreaks. (If teas & inoculants are
used we recommend more frequent nutrient change outs.)


I was wondering if anybody has used the tea successfully in the UC system. If so did they run into any bio film buildups? At first I added about 4 gallons of tea to my 100 gallon system. And then a gallon every 3 days. I was planning on changing out the water every 2 weeks. Should I be doing it weekly?
I do notice there is some film build up on the buckets but it doesn't seem to be doing any harm yet. Nice pearly white roots.

Anyone running a UC with the tea care to share some tips
It is working great so far, I just dont want to F it up.

roots still piling on every day i use canna nutes and the tea, whicch is why i think theres a slight yellowing at parts is this possible or should i be worried?

I have no experience with a UC system like that but it's possible to get away with only adding extra water and not changing it out entirely very often (probably still need to once at the veg/flower switch at the very least).

Initially, add about 1 cup to your res for every gallon of water, and then add 1 cup total every 3 days after. Your water might get a little cloudy but your roots will stay white and stimulated. When you use tea and practice proper res maintenance you can feel confident your roots will be healthy. By breeding the microbes this way your products should last about 5x longer. Once you have eradicated slime and simply want protection from future outbreaks, adjust the tea dosage to 1 cup per 10 gallons.

Sorry to join so late, and i am sure the answer is in here somewhere, but after 7 pages of reading i gave up.
Here is my issue: I run a swc also known as current culture system, things were going good, decent growth of the plants, but the roots just weren't where they were supposed to be. I found several with brown slime on them, always the first recommendation is Peroxide, so thats the route i went. I added 29% at 6.7ml per gallon. For some stupid reason i did all 3 of my tubs. Well after 24 hours the plants were drooping, so i pulled a couple and the roots were drooping and stripped of all the hairs they had the night before. Has any1 every seen or heard of this before?
So i did a res change and got out the freebies i got from the grow expo, found the beni's but no EWC, so i started the beni's in a tea, will go get ewc this morning.
Am i a good candidate for the Root slime cure?
Now the nutrients side of this. I run DM gold also, except i have found i am a fan of using the advance max vs. gold add.27. So what exactly do i do with my nutes while running the bennies? Same strength? and what about the Zone? I don't imagine i should be putting anything in to kill the bennies, and i believe that is all zone would do.
Change the water before adding this correct? I have to assume, but that will be 3 days on that nutrient batch, but whatever it takes to save them.

Yes there is going to be bio film I like to see that because it tells me that the tea is doing it job. If you have any questions about ur system just hit me up. Also this round I am going to try and not change the water but once. Only during the transition stage between veg and flower!

Found ZHO, Aquashield and the forest soil suggested... Mixed them all up and let it sit for 24 hours as said. Just dumped 1 cup per gal into 2 dwc buckets, 1 aero cloner, and 1 aero flowering unit. The girls in the flower unit are most affected by the slime right now, I'll post in a few days as to how it turns out.
