Hey guys this is gonna be my first grow, I'm gonna keep a journal here from building the grow box to the harvest. I hope that yall can give me advice on my set up I plan to use. I've done a lot of research so I'll try not to ask too many dumb questions.
This is gonna be done in a dresser that is about 2.3' wide, 1.2' long, and 3.3' high. It's not a ton of space but I'm gonna try and grow 2 plants, in a auto-pot set up. As of right now I've picked northern lights. I'll hollow out the inside, cover it with mylar, and create a secret door. It will all be sealed properly and sterilized.
For lighting I plan to use a 250w son agro bulb that will be in a ventilated glass enclosure seperated from the grow.
For ventilation I'm going with a closed system. The grow box will have 2 holes drilled in the back for an intake and exhaust hose, which will route to another location where I will have my own home made little climate control, as well as the water reservoir and co2 container. This is how it will work: The hoses that run from the box will be routed to another enclosure I will make that will have two 6" inline fans(250 cfm each), one for exhaust and one for intake. I will make adaptors to fit the hoses to the fans, there will be bottle necking though because the hoses from the box will be smaller than 6". Then I'm going to take a small mini frigde and drill 2 holes through the front. Then I take a plastic bottle and some pvc pipes and hoses and make what sort of looks and works like a bong. It will sit in the fridge filled with water being cooled, the exhaust will be pulled through the water and out the top back to the intake. So the exhaust fan is on the left, it draws the air from the box, that leaves the fan and goes through a tube that runs through the fridge, throught the "AC-bong", then back out the fridge through the intake fan. I'll be enriching with co2 via the yeast brew method, I'm not sure how much I should use at this point. The hose from that will merge to the intake and all of it will be run through an inline carbon filter, then back to the box.
The light will be ventillated by 4 cpu fans 2 for both intake and exhaust. They will be drilled and mounted into the back of the box. I might then also have more fans on the other side of the box that will help push the air out, this is all in the glass part by the way. I heard you should only push air not pull though lights so would this work?
The grow box will also have several cpu fans pushing air all around. I'll have thermometers, humidity and ph meters of course.
So here's what I wanted to ask: I'm not sure about nutrients yet. Is there anything specific I should get for Northern Lights or does it matter? Whats your opinion because everyone says something different. I'm considering using club soda or seltzer water too.
Will this set up keep my temperatures where I want them? What about humidity? I dont think I've seen anyone do this before.
Do I have enought light? I was thinking about using flourescents in the chamber for the sides whenever they got big and blocked the top.
How long can I go without ever using fresh air? Can this set up give my plants Co2 poisoning?
Any input is appreciated this is gonna be a sick grow just wait
