Lets talk about roots......

Breeders are like auto companies to me, you can get a lemon or the best car ever made.

A good example is the last run we did with LSD 4 out of the 6 were fucked from day two.
Completely different leaves and growth and talk about a troubled plant.
If we hadn't gotten a couple of good seeds in the batch it could have turned us off to the strain all together.
Notice I said strain and not breeder..

As far as the Choco, I think it's like the old school northern lights or pineapple express, more of a fad or a trend if anything.

I always start from my own seeds, (the whole mite thing, from a clone I brought in). in beer cups or what ever I have available. I let them go for around 7 or 8 days and transplant into 3 gal grow bags. I leave them to veg 4 to 5 weeks depending on the strain. then right into flower. 3 gal is plenty big enough and plants average about 4 to 5 feet. I have transplanted right before flower when I first started growing and found the plants to take 7 to 10 days to recover fully and resume growth. I would give them 2 wks. prior to flower. I'm just sayin.

Next run I need to take six plants (of the same strain obviously) and put them into my bud room one a week, starting after week four. I would like to do this for several reasons. Not only for the obvious desire of huge harvests, but also to see the ratio of work/space/extra soil/time/etc compared to the added weight of harvest. Does it get to a point where the extra veg is just a waste? Where is that point of maximizing everything to the fullest?

I couldn't tell you exactly how long is too long for a veg but I do know that eventually you will hit the point of diminishing returns. Another buddy of mine crammed 10 large mother plants under a 1000 watt which ended up being about 9 feet tall. he said he wasn't too happy with the results and ended up with only 20 ozs and alot of fluff and he does hydro. So about 2 oz a plant. Same yeild I'm pulling off of my plants now with a 3-4 week veg.

LST.... Veg until you fill up your footprint with tops and you'll have a solid layer of tops that all receive the same amount of light, producing the highest yield possible... I pulled 13oz off these 4 plants..

Love it. Do you keep pushing it farther each run?

I used to lst but find supercropping when plants are small (maybe 8-10 inches in heighth) gives me a nice bush minus the effort

all you are doing is bending the stem over..see the bumps at the bottom of the plant. makes the stem base nice and stronger as well. The plants in that pic also had root aphids ( still fighting the bastards in my sleep) so their growth was slowed. Ive since won the war against them. And I'm still unconvinced that 18-6 is better than 24 I see the same results both ways.

I don't have a need to really, I don't want to yield any more than I do.. Matter of fact, this time I have 6 going, only because I had 3 feminized seeds and planted 3 others in hopes for one more female. It's looking like they are all females so I'm stuck debating to let them grow or chop a couple. I don't want to have a huge overage come harvest time plus 4 plants lst'd fill out a 4'x4' area nicely and that's max for my 600w..

I supercrop my lst'd plants also, forgot to mention that. I don't always bend them, but I squeeze each stem till it pops, in a few spots, just to get those branches stronger and flowing more hormones..

I know I can donate but I'd still be over and if I happened to get "inspected" while I was over it wouldn't really matter if I had good intentions of donating it or not. I'm never paranoid till around harvest time lol. I don't purposely try to go over but I do try to make the most of my light and electricity bill... 6 plants would be a little overkill for me though.

That's one of the biggest problems with the law right now. Most people are over at harvest. Some intentionally, some not. But it's impossible to know how much any number of plants will yield with much accuracy. Even if you were going to destroy anything over your weight limit, you wouldn't know how much you had until it was dry, and dry is a pretty subjective term. You could weigh your harvested and manicured bud and figure that .2 of that weight will be dry weight. Keep the best buds and destroy the rest "wet', and you'd be close, but probably still illegal.

Heck, the way it is now, a guy with one plant could be over growing for himself. One 3 oz plant..LAW BREAKER!

Maybe, maybe not.. Some people are using the flowers to make RSO, it takes much more than 2.5oz to make an oz of it. Useable should be defined only as it's intended use. If I have cancer and want to make 1 RSO course of chemo I need a lb of buds...

Another obvious problem as the law is written. The law only discusses cannabis weight..doesn't address oils and such. But that's why you need MORE regulation, to define those things. Without any controls or definitions on oils and such, every one caught over would just say"but I'm going to make oil"..HOW DOES ONE CONFIRM "INTENDED USE' ?
