AC Questions.

Looking to cool a 11x11 room, with a 1000w light.

2 choices. 8,000BTU window unit for ~300. Or 10,00 BTU portable for $100.

Pros/cons of each?

Ifu are using only 1 000w light in a room that size, air cooling with a fan should be plenty, that is a lot of room for one light. I have a set up the same size with 4000w and room to expand. With ambientsof 65f I cool all 4 with 1 high end 8" inline fan for a final too temp stabilized around 80f. If u do go for ac get the highest btu u can afford, it won't be wasted. This is just from memory, but I think the rule of thumb is 4k btu per 1000w of light. This is based on open. Bulbs that are not cooled by tube, hood or water.

Too big of an A/C unit (too many BTU's) is actually one of the biggest wastes you can possibly have lol. The compressor turning on and off is what puts so much wear and tear on these machines. Having a huge AC means you'll only run the compressor for maybe a minute at a time before it reaches the desired temp.

4000 btu per 1k light is the perfect range to be looking at.
if u ever plan to run co2 this would help.
as far as portable or window, duel hose portable is good. single hose just blew smell out when i used one. now i use window mount and love it.

Just like victorygarden said.... Mini splits are the best, but I ould look for one with a higher seer rating,, not only will it save you moey in energy costs.. the higher the seer rating the quieter they run ... I have a 21 seer mitsubishi that you can barely hear standing right next to it...
