Because you wouldn't meet with all of your constituents and listen to what they have to say. Who's to say there wouldn't be a financial guru in that group that could greatly help the economic policy of your district?

Just because someone has a different view than you on a given topic doesn't mean they shouldn't be heard. That's discriminatory in and of itself.
well, you have a point there.

i guess i would just look for the next best financial guru that doesn't hate people for however they were born, rightly or not.

anybody want to suggest a good firearm for a first time owner?

i have plenty of training and practice with guns, but never fired a handgun and pretty sure i don't want one. i have had permission for some time now and just haven't done it. with summer coming up again and greenhouse weather near, i am feeling the urge again.

It all depends on what your intended use is imo.

Why no handguns Buck? I don't know what your tastes are but I love Glocks. So simple.

Can't beat an AK or AR. So much choices, it's all up to you.

i still maintain that all people must be listened to.

i understand your reservations in representing an implorable position just because those that hold it may be a majority in your district and therefore may push to have their implorable position written into law but i would have to refer to Syncos' post above that everyone has the right to be represented or at very least be listened to.

IF you were to decide on a hangun, i would recommend a Ruger single-six. Damn near foolproof imo. i own one in .22 (LR and Magnum with interchangeable cylinders) that i have used every time someone has asked me to teach the handgun safety. Not a single problem.

Short range self-defense, a shotgun is prime imo. No worries about shooting through walls, down the street, etc (unless firing slugs lol).

you nailed it in a later post, short range self defense.

i am an idiot, and would likely end up shooting myself with a handgun i feel. although having never fired one, i may just be a little paranoid and lacking in self confidence.

yes, i was thinking some type of shotgun, preferably one with a pump action. have neighbors on all sides of me, so their safety is a concern as well.

and i do not want to kill, so much as deter and disable if it ever really came down to it.

so any suggestions on a good pump action shotgun would be splendid.

Just make sure to add you intend to use it to protect your pot green house. I'm sure he'd more than happy to help out.

i persoanlly prefer the Remington 870 but that is obviously up for debate. i must say that the sound of a pump racking one into the chamber is a deterrent (in the academy, we were trained to key the mic on our PA while simultaneously racking a round into the chamber when performing felony stops. It stops DAMN near anyone in their tracks) BUT you must be ready to use it as it was intended or you&#39;re better off not having one in the first place. If it is to deter someone from breaking into the greenhouse, you&#39;re better off unarmed and staying inside while calling the cops. (Assuming you are legal on the state level)</p>

A gun is a gun imo and a handgun (my weapon of preference) is as safe as any other firearm. They can all kill and the rules are the same for all.

1) ALWAYS assume it's loaded.
2) NEVER point it at something you don't intend to shoot.
3) When carrying, ALWAYS keep your muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

Albeit, a shotgun is much more difficult to accidentally point at one's self, if it does happen, it is likely to do much more damage in the event of an unintended discharge.

A buddy told me he was hunting and tripped and dropped his rifle and the shit discharged with the safety on... kind of made me not want one as much. Weird being that I'm strongly pro-gun but I don't own a gun nor have I ever.

They can depending on the type of safety in place. If it is a trigger-locking safety, a sharp drop can still cause the inertia firing pin to strike the primer. A rolling-block safety (one that physically covers the primer from the pin) is damn near fool-proof.

Can you get the rolling block safety on all guns or only certain ones?

Only certain ones. They vary by manufacture. Tbh, not real sure about long-guns as my experience is mostly with handguns. My S&W 5904 had the rolling block and i loved it. Let me do a little research.

From a quick search, it appears taht i sort of mis-spoke on the rolling block. That was a feature initially introduced by Remington on their rifles. The actual term i was thinking i was referring to is a "hammer block" safety which can be found on several makes including Remington and Marlin rifles.

this is why i would prefer a shotgun to a handgun.

and i agree with what you said about being ready to use it if you're going to rack the pump. i slept outside towards harvest and the axe was comforting, but not 100% so.
