Ideas Needed! 12 Site Ebb & Flow.

Ola Ppl. I am new to the scene. Before I ask questions lemme tell you what Im working with.

Cap. 12 Site ebb & Flow Bucket System.
2 1,000 Watt HPS & MH w/cool tube.
1 medium size room in a mobile home completely devoted to the grow.
I plan on using(10) fem. Big Bud Seeds. & (2) White Widow - Fem.

1st question is will it be to hot? I plan on puttin a fan in the window. perhaps a window unit...What Temp should I maintain in the grow room.

2nd question What is the best grow medium? Perlite? The lil clay balls? What..I dunno. They all claim to be the best medium.

3rd Question. I need to pick some Nutrients. Veg, Bloom and maybe a booster or some additonal additive. Will these maintain the proper PH? Do I need a digital ph meter? Chemistry is my thing..I have so I have litmus papers ..I just dont think theyd be ideal.

4th. Sould I use a humidifier or should I decrese humidity? Or do I not need to worry about it.

5th. Should I scoop up extra funds for a Co2 emitter?

Final question lol..Any ideas on what plants I could grow outside my house for odor control.. ie: Honeysuckle, sage??

O ya..Is two 1,000 hps lights for 12 lg. plants overkill? Is there such thing??

Thanks in advance for your input guys. Ill be sure to post Pix as it goes.. Wish me luck:weed:

1: as long as you have fans attatched to the cooltube reflectors to air cool them it shouldnt get to hot. aim for 73-77 degrees, can be hotter with co2.
2: different mediums require different flood schedules, i can tell you hydroton pellets are the most common so getting help on them would be easy.
3: there is no line of nutrients the will always stay a constant ph. the ph will naturally rise as the plant uses the nutrients. and yes ph and ppm meters are a must for hydro.
4: you will need a dehum for flowering, anything over 50% RH runs the risk of mold.
5: look into co2 bags. cheap and easy to use.
6: fuck outdoor plants, get a good exhaust fan and a good carbon scrubber. 12 plants will smell a lot.
7: there is such of thing as overkill but your not anywhere near it.

I forgot a main question I wanted to ask..I know its impossible to figure since there is a bunch of variables... but how much (roughly) am I going to get given the info above?? And How much damage will two 1,000 watt HPS do on the Electric Bill during the 24.. Any ideas??

1. You live in Arizona. If you don't have a/c in there then yes it's going to get hot when the lights are on. No way can you cool 2 1000w lights from a small room in the desert without a/c. Doesn't matter if you run your lights at night unless the temperatures drop to like 55 degrees where you live. GO SUNDEVILS!!! Class of 2000. Best temps are between 70-80. With Co2 you can go up to 88.

2. For that system either Hydroton (little clay balls) or Coco would be your best option.

3. Yo don't need a digital pH meter but it sure helps. Especially when measuring nutrients because you need to test the ppm. A goog "Basic" hydro nutrient is B.C. or General Hydroponics. They are easy to use for a new grower. You will need to get a small bottle of pH up and pH down to adjust your nutrient solution after you mix it and to also adjust the water you feed your plants during the first few weeks and the last week of flush.

4. Your humidity should stay below 50% in the flower stage. This will help you avoid a ton of problems like mold, powdery mildew, etc... If you have low humidity where you live then don't worry. Vegging plants like humidity a little higher but not really worth investing in a humidifier if you don't already have one.

5. Right now you won't be able to take advantage of a Co2 system. You are a new grower and you need to get the other aspects of your grow perfected before you add Co2. It will probably be a waste at this point. Plants love it but only when EVERYTHING else is dialed in.

Not sure if it is overkill because I don't know how large you are growing your plants. Some guys have 24 of those buckets under 2 1000w lights. Just depends on the size of your room. A 1000w light has an optimal footprint of 5'x5' when 18" from the plant canopy.

Check out these threads. Especially the first one. Those sytems have tons of tiny drawbacks and problems that can creep up and these guys have devised solutions for all of them. Some of the things I have seen going wrong are algae roblems, heat problems with the controller bucket and the water that stays in the lines, roots sitting in water, etc... Check these threads out seriously. These guys have figured out almost all of the problems and have some great info. Good Luck.

Yield is a rhetorical question. Depends on plant height and width and the environment.

1 1000W light running 24/0 uses $3.60 a day at $0.15 per kilowatt hour. Check your electrical bill to see what you are charged and if there are off peak rates and tiered rates. $100 a month at 24/0 and $50 a month at 12/12 is a good average for 1000w lights.

The first one "Newb Grow Journal" is a buddy of mine. He's got some really good stuff in there. Hellraizer is one of the best MODS on this site. Has really great info and is always willing to help.

i run a ebb and grow system, i started out running all 12 sites for a harvest every 2 months then went to 18 sites under 2 1000's harvesting 9 every 4 weeks then went to 20 sites under 3200w in a 10x10 room harvesting 5 every 2 weeks. i have since consolidated it back down to the 12 sites under just 2 1000s in a 4x8 tent harvesting 6 every 4 weeks. the best run i had so far was under the 1000s harvested 9 that where about 24 oz's with a 1000 over each 9. there is a few little problems with the system that when addressed can make growing in it much simpler (1) the sites really need to be raised above the control bucket about 2" this allows the sites to fully drain, i did this by simply building a platform out of 2x4's and plywood ( i still do this today even in my tent). (2) i highly recommend keeping the 55gal res and control buckets outside the grow space where the hid lighting cant heat the water. if you are growing in a room i would recommend a tent to flower in so you can use a a/c to cool the room the tent is in down between 65-70 (that will keep your water nice and cold) and have a inline fan feeding that cool air to the tent this works well.

How do you do a perpetual cycle in an Ebb & Grow? Do you have multiple reservoirs and control buckets?

nope ppms are maintained throughout flower they never change. i have never had the need for a second third or even fourth res. i have a very simple fert schedule and if you are wondering no i do not flush for weeks lol every two weeks i will flush for a few days in between res changes to do away with some salts but thats it. that with a good cure and my meds have never tasted better:)

Cool stuff man. Thanks for sharing. I do a mid flower and pre harvest flush. Works for me. I've been wanting to try a few other methods (flush every other week, or flush every other day). So you leave your ppm steady the whole flower cycle? What number are you leaving it at?

Not a problem Phillip, they stay right at 1000 ppm with nothing more than gh micro and bloom with calmag. I never personally saw a huge increase in yield/quality with all the gh additives so I stopped using them all together.

Hey it looks like the hole gang in here lol lots of good info going around :)

To the main question yield! The ebb can give some steller results, in the worst
Meaning genetics and cycle issue! If you can make it to harvest then i would
Say no less than 1ounce but with alittle love and genetics you could see 5 with
Some exp.

As for AN nutes i have that dailed for the ebb, so hit me up anytime :)

Hey I'm running the titan flow and grow total novice grower and cleared 1500 grams with 10 plants below 2 1000w in a 8x4 tent.

I expanded and got rid of that damn tent, Just take care of em like there yours kids.

Cool stuff DrGreen. I'm using flood tables but I might try that out sometime. I love doing side by side comparisons. Got like 5 lined up that should keep me busy for the next year or so! :hump:

Doing one in May with my AN nutes vs. a Dyna Grow recipe. Also going to start a brewed tea recipe that Hellraizer gave me in that one as well or maybe the one afterward. Not sure . Then I want to test out Home and Garden nutes. After that I'm down to try out the stable reservoir and different flush cycles. Gotta stop coming to the forum so much cause everyday I find something I want to test out. Good stuff.

I was checking that out. They are PRICEY!! Still wanna give them a fair shake down cause their formulas look so clean like you said and I've heard that the salts build up is almost nothing with them. Plus they have little to no heavy metals. Worth an experiment! :weed:
