wallyworld, Lowes, canadian tire, Costco..... theres allways some giant company that has what u want xD

was thinking of putting around 10 of these in along with the 200watt dual when it arrives tomorrow or wednesday. thanks for your help.
The 10x Smaller ones will serve your plants better than the single 200w would anyways. the lights can be spread out so there isn't as much light being wasted.

You could easily run 600+ watts in there as long as it is vented.

you don't have to worry about fire unless there is a problem with your equipment. do an Equipment check every time you are around, if a ballast or light is worrying you, you can allways unplug and check it out. i have been growing for a long time, with due diligence i have never had a fire or major electrical problem.

P.S: you dont need to buy expensive Vortex fans to have good ventilation for 600+ Watts of CFL. my 400 Watt tent uses one of these.

ok so i went and got 10 x 20watt cfls and wired 5 to each to each side, am i right in thinking they only need a 3 amp fuse in each? (100 watt / 240v = 0.41a) And so theoretically speaking with the right ventilation i could get 30 of these cfl`s in there ?. i may follow this route instead of putting the dual 200watt back in.

if you are talking about these bulbs from your link:
http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/light-bulbs/general-electric-ge-energy-saving-bulb-b22-bc-23w/invt/0290408/?htxt=2ETQhJd8X0S7IY%2BeqPNk3RxcUIlqI8DqiVFfYAXYlNaxhZPdocpbhhX8lYTffi2UGZIlQL3CfhOC
ffCf0EMTMg%3D%3D

The math would be 23w/ 240v or 0.0958333 amps per bulb 10 of em would only draw .958333 amps

If you truly did get the 20 watt ones and wired 5 together your math was correct.
People are sending you links to lowes and some Canada location, that crap wont work in the UK, I'm sure you already know that though.

I'm guessing the 1220lu in the 20w descriptions is Lumens, sounds about right. so 10 of those would be 12200 lumens. More than enough for 1-2 plants IMO.

Thanks for verifying that :) On another note my 200watt cfl that died yesterday tripped my house out , the fuse in the extension lead it was plugged in did not blow and the fuse in the hanger also did not blow ,im assuming that this should also have a 3amp fuse in the hanger(it came prewired with a 13amp in it). As if its supposed to be a 3amp fuse i`ll change it before the new 200watt goes back in, thanks for your quick responses guys :)

Good choice. my rule is CFL for veg and HPS for flower.

you can get a 250W HPS light, with reflector, hangers and digital ballast for around £120 (you could probably score one for £80 with just the basics if you look hard). its WELL worth the investment, digital ballasts are much safer than the ballasts on CFL lights (they wear out with age, can cause fires. just replace them every year..) and on top of that they are more efficient light wise.

CFL = 70~ Lu/W VS. HPS = 120~ Lu/W.

a 250W HPS gives out 30,000 Lumens, thats enough to flower 4 plants efficently (7500 Lumens/plant) a 250W CFL gives out 17,500 lumens, which is enough for 2 plants.....

This is my first proper grow but i am def considering hps for future grows :) thanks for your time ...:)
