I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with asll of you bashing the op. Dude is legal. What gives the other dude the right to take away his LEGAL RIGHTS??! If he has to hide to avoid being chastised, well fuck -- that sucks for him. The power he's talking about is $10 a month or less. I'm sure he can buy his buddya 12 pack each month to make up for it. The fire issue is easily solved with an automatic fire extinguisher for $40 like the Home Defender.

thanks bro. i appreciate it. at least you see where im coming from.
i wont hesitate to make sure my friend gets compensated for the electricity i use on the grow. thats no issue. since i use to grow with 1600+ watts a month plus cooling (100+ a month at the time) i can handle paying my buddy the 10 bucks each month no problem.
if i work with clones as i plan to im gonna be on 12/12 all the time so it really wont effect the bill much like you said...10 or less a month.
I seriously doubt there would be a fire also as its only 150w and all ill be running is the 150w light and a small fan for circulation/heat control. i use to run 2 600s...a 6bulb 4ft t5 fixture, 3-4 fans and an a/c and i never had one issue and i grew with that setup for a long while (winter, summer, etc.)
i think a lot of posters here really exaggerated and started jumping up saying im "stealing" (less than 10 bucks a month! that i intend to make sure he gets one way or another...pick up a bar tab...leave 10 bucks on the counter and claim its not mine, etc) and i wouldn't bring any attention to my grow to put him in a bad way by any means.
If dude wasn't my friend then i think id be asking how i can get away with 1000w+ or something. people REALLY blew it out of proportion. thank you so very much for backing up and realizing its a legal grow so im not breaking the law.
i wonder how much crap i would have got if i said my friend doesnt want me growing tomatoes indoors but i wanna get a 150w hps and try a stealth tomato grow im sure everyone would have said, "its legal to grow tomatos your friend is just being a pu$$y, heres what id do to get around him" but since its mj everyone is all of the sudden holy and im the devil even though for me growing tomatoes and growing mj are legal. so i dont see whats the difference really.
anyway enough of my rant. thank you once again +rep for decency and understanding!

I have the perfect idea. It's really stealthy and won't suck up power.
What you will need.
1. Ladder
2. Circular saw
3. A a giant used window from Craigslist
4. A caulk gun
5. Extension cord
6. Bucket for rain water
7. Heavy duty plastic.
Wait till your trusting friend goes to work. Get the ladder and go into the attic. Cut out a hole a little smaller than the windows size. The more windows the better. Get some caulk and start to seal the edges. You may want to cut a hole into the roof to collect rainwater too. This is also a good time to lay that heavy duty plastic. Basically you are making a greenhouse in the attic. If you do it right he will never notice the gaping whole in his roof or the smell of buds flowering.....
Seriously doode. since you haven't moved yet DON'T. Move somewhere else OR say "I'm not moving in unless I can grow".

You could easily argue that the other guy is the selfish one -- trying to limit the dude's legal rights.
What is the other guy was a vegetarian, and wouldn't allow anyone to eat meat in the house (even if it was never seen -- ie: you can't eat a hamburger in your own room with the door closed because I don't like people eating meat)? Would that be the same case in your view?

Okay so I talked to my friend who has this Sun Systems 150w hps delivering 16000lumens..........So he took the the fixture apart and found the wiring diagram on the inside which states that the unit requires 55mfd capacitor across the line to correct the power factor
Says:
HPF with the 55mfd capacitor : 2.57amps
NPF without the 55mfd capacitor : 4.25 amps!!!
When we measured it , it pulled 375watts @ 3.2 amps bringing it to 42lumens/per watt....It's a fucked up flaw to save $2 on the manufacturing....
So really think about going with a good quality digital (dimmable) ballast(150w-250w) to save electric........be safe and happy growing
