Defenses against home invasion

if it makes you feel any better i can't get a gun in my city without getting approval by the chief of police, and he denies EVERYONE. "home protection" is not a valid enough reason for me to exercise my second amendment right here. he even got the one and only shooting range shut down over some stupid shit.

i actually toyed with the idea of starting a thread on home surveillance cameras. i researched 'em for a year before getting a system for my mother, and i got the same system for my place. they won't stop shit from going down, but they allow me to identify the players with clarity, and just the sight of them makes people think twice. i can actually watch the gears turn when they spot the cameras.

you'd be surprised what goes on when i'm not home. anyone pays too much attention to my place and i'll see it. i've also caught some epic street brawls and people partying near my car.

silly people... when will you realize you need not ask ANYONE "permission" for your own defense and protection...

The best defense is not letting anyone know you are growing in the first place...
From the sounds of it, Danny didn't know the random intruders who invaded his home. They did not know there was a grow op in the residence.

From my understanding, you cannot grow legally and own a gun where you grow. Maybe I'm wrong but either way they are going to make you out to be the bad guy and say marijuana causes crime. If somebody tried to rob me, I would let them take whatever they wanted. I can grow more plants, buy new equipment and everything else but I cannot replace family or my freedom. I don't think most burglars want to hurt people, they want to make a clean get-away. Gunshots only attract attention and criminals are under a lot of stress, it's best to not upset them. Hide your valuables and unless there was significant property damage or theft of things other than marijuana, and your doing EVERYTHING by the books, I wouldn't call the police to report the crime and come gather evidence. This has never happened to me, or really anyone I know personally (Other than LEOs). Thieves usually just sneak around and lie. They don't want conflict or confrontation.

Not everyone feels comfortable with a gun, so another option for home defense is pepper spray (gel or foam based) and a really bright tactical flashlight like a Surefire. Ideally they should be small enough where you can attach them to your keychain or carry them on your belt at all times. I carry pepper spray with me everywhere and it's not just for defense against people. In fact out of few times I've had to use it, it was against large aggressive dogs. If you do make the choice to carry a firearm, be responsible about it, and practice with it often.

Home security systems, dogs... they deter, but they don't stop, and, if someone is willing to come through, they are willing to drop a few .303-.308 rounds to clean up before entry. From an ex-con, trust me, that bumper sticker that says "Criminals hate armed victims" is bullshit. In my heyday we wanted to see that gun -- guns are a deterrent, most honest people won't take a life, even to save their favourite child or husband/wife. We used to jack the DEA and ATF for flack jackets, and go in dressed as SRT. Do yourself a favour, from a serious ex-con, if someone REALLY wants your shit, they'll die trying to get it -- do you have the conscious (or lack thereof) to actually take a life and sleep at night for the next 40-60 years, knowing you've ended a life? If the answer is no, than you won't pull the trigger at go-time, and you WILL be hurt or killed for your effort. Your weed, your TV, your computer, they aren't worth the life of regret, or the loss of family, for trying to protect it. Get a home monitoring system, hide the fucker, and know WHO robbed you, don't try to stop it. 1 in 20 people is a psycho/sociopath... 1 in 1000 people is a criminal -- the odds are NOT in your favour!
So you would bust into peoples' houses yelling "Police!"? That would fuck my day up, cuz you never shoot at cops. But I guess once you start taking shit, I'll know what's up.

And you say let them take your shit. How do I know you'll leave when you're done? How do I know you won't put a bullet in me or rape my family? I'm supposed to trust some fucker busting into my house? You said it yourself in your post "1 in 20 people is a psycho/sociopath".

Protecting family by retreating to a safe area is one thing. Saying people deserve to die because they stole some pot is alot different.
When did I ever say that someone deserved to die for stealing pot??....because I said armed invaders wouldn't make it past my front door?....yeah I can see the correlation....

my plan if i am aware of a home invasion before they are in my home is to put two in the cieling first
they would have to get in my house first without me knowing which is hard enough to do. i have 4 labs that will bark like crazy. and they would have to break a window or something without me hearing it. then they'd have to bypass the security system once they were in the house. then they would have to get upstairs and down a long hallway which all creeks in certain spots. then they would have to break my bedroom door down (solid wood on reinforced frame) all before i got to the hangun on my nightstand.

no one is getting the upperhand on me. that's for sure.

i agree though...if i hear someone in my house or in the yard then i'm letting them know i'm armed first. try to avoid having to shoot someone if i can.

lol.....keep breaking into people's homes with that mindset.... You used to jack DEA flack jackets?? dude..we're not talking about robbing crack houses, in the ghetto..you are so full of shit!!....and it's not about protecting my big screen or my pot even, it's about protecting my family. And yes I could take a life, and sleep at night, if that life is some armed, coward, pos thug who goes around kicking people's doors in. You are a crook asking us if we have a conscience???...and crooks would die trying to get my stuff?? lol a crook wouldn't die trying to do anything because all crooks are coward little bitches. Haven't you watched world's dumbest yet?? Why not go get a job and earn your own way in life....and trust me..out here, where I'm from....noone would hesitate to pop a round in your ass, if you were trying to break down their door.
