Ginja, our Jeeps have even more towing capacity than the vehicles you listed, but there's a lot more to towing than the capacity of the tow vehicle. Even the jeeps cannot safely tow these kinds of loads up mountains and through winding curves. Other major problems are that the transmissions will not hold up, and small vehicles will not stop a trailer that heavy when you need it. Bro, the Ford Saloon weighs 700lbs less than my boat, I don't think I'd feel very safe driving down a steep grade with a load heavier than my rig, but that's just me.

yeah i realized it was at the lowest end possible for the job but where on the scale is your truck?
my godfather runs catering at big events he's got several 20' trailers with all the cooking gear on probably weighs half as much again as your boat/trailer and all he uses to tow them are refrigerated mercedes sprinter vans full of food with no more than a 2.9l engine they've never had a trouble with any hills going up or down them.

Oh, and those stats you posted are net migration rates, not immigration rate per country.

yeah there is no way i would try to tow a bass boat with a small car or a jeep...a jeep cherokee sure but not even the new 4 door jeeps i would trust...just because you physically pull something does not make it safe or wise...even in a pick up truck the ride can brutal if you hit a semi rough rode...i wish i had a bass boat man...what is the largest large mouth and small mouth you have got?

Fishing in California makes it much easier to get trophy fish though, when it comes to bass fishing, we have it made here.

Most cars and trucks here have automatic transmissions.

As far as the automatic vs manual transmission, both are available but most of us have automatics, it's near impossible to get manual transmissions in these trucks anymore.

How can you pull a load with an automatic transmission tho? It's being able to choose gears that would let you get the actual peak power from the engine.

Automatic boxes overall reduce fuel efficiency btw

My truck lets me choose a type of manual setting, I can choose the gear I want and stay in that gear until I shift.
And the 6speed automatic is just about as economical as the manual, within 1-1.5mpg while towing. But for going down steep grades with a heavy load, I'll take the automatic any day.

That is a funny pic. LOL there are a huge number of Americans that cannot drive a standard transmission, its true. The only time I thought a auto was better than a clutch was when in stop and go traffic for some time, like in So Cal during the commute during the rain while a car is on fire 10 miles up near the Orange crush or something.

yeah...stick sucks...i try to make my life easier not harder...and manual was great when they were the only option, times have progressed..it is like watching a black n white t.v. as opposed to hdtv on a flatscreen..get on board

If I was buying a new sportscar, I would get a stick for sure. For any other application, especially towing, the auto is the way to go.

If you're wanting a car for pure driving enjoyment, a manual transmission is the only way to go IMO.

The nice thing about a manual is you can shift it at exactly the right time to keep the engine in the torque band while anticipating the next turn or what have you, something the most advanced automatics cannot do.

i.e I see a decreasing radius turn ahead and want to apex it in 2nd gear at about 45MPH so that on exit the car can be shifted into 3rd at precisely the right time. No automatic that I know of can anticipate a future needed action.

The real reason people in America shun Manuals? They are scared of the clutch. That scary peddle on the left that seems to bite them on every stoplight on a hill.

You can also do 60mph in 2nd...THATS responsiveness

I once drove a Lamborghini Diablo, it would redline at 63 MPH in 1st gear. It was a real bitch to keep that car at the speed limit. You had to coast around all the corners because if you even touched the throttle it would switch ends on you. I never quite got the hang of it in the few hours I had with it. Stiffest gearbox I ever drove, that includes the John Deere.
