What many people find wrong with the fair tax is that it doesn't punish rich people enough. Lots of folks out there who think wealthy people don't deserve what they got, they figure if you can afford a $100 steak that you should be taxed 99% so you can only afford hamburger like the rest of us.

Please let me know where one can find a good $100 steak? They are all too rare (fogive the pun) in my part of the world.

No one said you were envious or jealous, you just want them to pay the same as you do right? And your tax rate is going to go up more than theirs is,theirs is going to go up 3.3%, but yours is going up 5%. The politicians in this country are almost exclusively rich people, and ALL of them would probably be classified as such by you. You really think they are going to do something without protecting their own interests first? The REAL reason for doing this is to get more money out of the other 320 million Americans. HAHA the amount of tax on dividends will increase by 120%, won't all those middle class folks with IRA's and 401K's and Brokerage accounts pay out the fucking ass now eh?

The last time I bought Waygu beef in a restraunt it was in the $140 range. It was good, but I have a great deal of difficulty paying that much for a steak.

Hey, I've literally been in this position. About five years ago when we were building custom homes, during the excavation of one of the houses we pulled out over 200 ton of large moss rock. I had the rock trucked to my yard and put an add in the news paper, we sold almost every bit of it.

Had I kept the rock in yard and did not advertise it, I'd still have it.


Now, you tell me how the demand of a manufactured product can be produced, transported and sold without the means of capital and suppliers.

My understanding is that VAT is assessed on every transaction, basically a sales tax. It's in addition to income taxation.
I personally find double taxation an offensive practice. Trouble is, VAT without income taxation is regressive because it leaves capital gains completely untouched, which is a bias in favor of all those with not just money but capital.
A completely flat income tax is fair to a first approximation, but I would prefer a step-flat system that flatly taxes all income above a given poverty line. cn
