I don't like the double standard here. You can spew your hatred of hispanic people living in the US because you have a fiance that is hispanic and you're black and native American. You talk about statistics and you wish to convince someone of something about your views. You have no idea how all these "free trade agreements" have made "America's backyard" so poor and how our drug war does nothing except export violence to Latin America. Implementing protectionist measures worked well to free us from European mercantilism late in the 19th century. Mckinley imposed tarifs on many imports, driving up the cost of imported goods, therefore increasing demand for domestic goods. The revenue from the tarifs was then used to manufacture US goods more efficiently. One of the keys to a strong economy (that the US must have forgotten) is to always export more than you import.
In the end, it is going to be poor Americans trying to move south for a better life. Brazil has implemented protectionist measures against US mercantilism and the already explosive growth there has kicked into high gear. The rest of the continent has removed our puppet right wing governments with the exception of Chile and Colombia. Get an idea of what is going on and why, you can't see the forest from the trees. We make massive profits in Latin American markets because they cannot compete with how cheap our products from international streamlined corporations can undercut their products made at home. When we put a walwart in a town in Mexico, a million dollars a week leaves that town headed to the US. That walmart pushes cheaper goods than the local stores who in turn fail to compete. This only hurts the middle class. Our corporations operate with impunity in Latin American countries. Monsanto has removed over 20% of the Amazon rainforest.
Latin America as a nearly united whole, expressed concern to Obama over these trade policies in the recent Summit of the Americas. I bet all you knew about it was that there was a prostitution scandal. What you probably didn't know, is that they are sick of our shit. It is colonialism same as what has been going down in Africa and it is too bad that Africa can't do the same as Latin America and kick the west out. How do you feel about American women wearing blood diamonds? Did you think that the world was divided into a first world and a third world because all the third world peoples are inferior? No, it is that way because the west dominates them all.
The really odd part in all of it is that when illegal immigrants come here, they actually contribute to society. They work hard for low wages, they pay income taxes but do not file returns, they pay property and sales taxes but cannot use the services associated with those monies because they cannot verify identity, and last but not least, if they require legal punishment for crimes, we don't have to spend much prosecuting them, we just deport them.
This leaves you with one valid complaint, that they don't assimilate and adopt your culture. FUCK YOUR CULTURE!
Sorry, it just struck me reading your post that the other day while sitting in my car in a black neighborhood waiting on a friend I was lost in thought on the whole sociological arguments of why races are not more of the melting pot I learned in grade school we are called in the USA. I took a lot a Soc classes so the main theories were floating through but I was mainly pondering in this case if most of the residents in that nieghborhood were in that particular nieghborhood due to a comfort level of being around others who are of their race and culture or if it was solely economics or how much of both.
