First Grow!

The successful growers that use CFL's do not use the 26 watters. And those 55- 105 watters start to get a little more expensive than the 26w.

Yes on the 5000k lights ive been looking online. And yes the fan is the kind that starts up and it sounds pretty powerful. Also something I havent mentioned is their is an air vent in there for my A/C. So the room is constantly getting fresh air and it stays around 70-74 degrees at all times.

cool ... actualy cool :D

no thats great .. make sure they are clean and can pull enough air out/in ..

maybe turn/tune them up if nesseary .. if the out take ventilation is that kind I postet ? and its old ? a new one is cheap ..

try to keep it around them 74F .. that is ok .. but dont go lower .. maybe try to get 75-78F at lights on .. 70F is ok for night time ..

also ... remember ... unless its a auto .. it needs complete darkness in dark time (only special green light if you realy have to go in ther) so might need to block any window/light leaks ..

5000k is ok if that is what you can get .. but try when you have some cash on your hands go get some decent lights if you refuse to go with HPS ..

safe up for a T5HO fixture and use the CLFs for side light on your nextt grow .. that would be my advice ..

here is a place ... they even have a sale ..

http://www.greners.com/i/grow-lights/fluorescent-grow-lights/t5-fixtures-2-feet/sun-blaze-t5-fixtures-2-foot-2-4-8-tube.html

2" 8 bulb fixtur with a nice refletor and even included Veg. bulbs (6500K) 193,95 $

dont buy em .. just have a look and see what you can get and what it will cost .. and see what you yild with your CLFs on your fist trail run ..
but thats the kind you want .. with your 2700K CLFs around .. then you mgiht be able to grow decent plants with out HPS ...

I know i have 3 reg sized and 1 auto seed. im thinking about just doing the auto in my closet in my game room so i can keep it on a diff light cycle. I guess i have been looking into hps a little. i am hearing what everyone is saying and it would be dumb for me to be stubborn and end my first grow. how much can i get a decent hps light for?

Not long ago I saw a little 150 hps on ebay that went for 30.00 used. It would have been good for a small stealth grow. Ebay is always going to be the best bet for them. Last year I bought a new 1000w system for 272.00 and I just saw the exact same one go for 172.00 last week-new ! Switchable with 2 bulbs and a timer.

Check out this new 250w system for 114.90. It has everything including hangers, a timer, and your choice of vented hoods ! I would get the vented hood vs the cool tube hood.

edit : Free shipping too !!

Thought about grabbing some h.o. t5's? A buddy of mine switched from cfls to t5s and said he had better luck with it. Also check your local electric supply store for cfl's they generally have bigger sizes and you can usually find a clearance rack somewhere.

well fist of all .. just keep that auto with them other plants .. just let it follow ther light time .. it will do its stuff .. dont worry ..

I belvie Ppl. keep autos on a 18/6 all the way ..

normaly I would not suggest anybody to buy anything smaller then a 250W .. actualy 400/600W is best ..

but it is a nice littel cheap set ... and with boath MH and HPS ..

could easily work very well for 1 plant .. keep it right on top of it ..

maybe 2 small autos .. but I think you will have a hard time fitting two plants/pots under it and non of em will be directly under it ..

two of them lights and two shelfs and your golden :)

but one of em to start with could easily work ..
later on you can allways use it to veg 2-4 small plants for a few weeks with the MH and get a bigger 400W HPS to flower with ;)

Ok so with HPS that 150watt is the same as 150watts worth of cfl just with a better delivery method? Can that bulb be switched out to any other size?

I dont belive it can runn other then 150W

but boath MH (for Veg. mostly blue spectrum =6500Kelvin) and HPS (for flowering .. mostly yellow/red spectrum 2-3000Kelvin)

would be kind a perfect for one small plant ..

I reccon it deliver around 16000 Lumens in the right colors .. its like 6X2" T5HO tubes .. but with better prenetration .. keepd 10 inches away it could grow a nice littel kush plant or a Auto ..

when your tired of growing one plant .. use it with only the MH for Veg .. keep 4 small plants a foot away or so for a few weeks (2-4) then get a 400W HPS to flower them with ...on your low shelf ;)

It cannot be switched out with another size. I purchased the 250w setup to get me going, I'm actually have solid success with it. 150W of hid can throw off about 18,000 lumens, a 150W cfl throws roughly 60 lumens per watt, that's 9000 lumens. My 250HPS throw 30,000 in my 9' squared of floor space that's 3,333 of lumens. Remember that lumens degrade over distance and field of penetration. I've only ended up with 1 girl at a time in my tent so I have yet to scrog or lst, just some super cropping, bottom branch trimming and the ability to give her a turn. Hope this helps

yea need to keep it close to get most out of the light .. that as I see it is the main downside of indoor growing .. and why you schould use some kind of tecnic (top/FIM/LST/SOG/SCROG) to grow bushes insted of trees .. unless you grow big scale in a barn with 10x1000W HID lights or sumthing ..

bottom grow with never develotp in to anything userble .. also why most growers lolipop (remove bud sites at the bottom 1/4 or so) dont tutch fan leaves tho .. they wil be food for the plants doing flowering ..

so keep em low and spread all out to get most out of your light .. and keep the light close ..

au contraire, mon frere...............................the 26W is the most efficient CFLView attachment 2235515
I see lots of bulbs, but no buds ?
I agree that they are the most efficient regarding lumens per watt, but you can't add those lumens to get a higher penetrating power.
I use the 26 watters myself, but they're only useful to veg plants to a certain point. Then they go under the big guns.

Obviously CFL will not be as efficient as any HID lights, the size of each bulb isnt too important aslong as you are distributing light output as much as possible. Keep them close to maximize lumen intensity.
If i had the option it would definitely be CFL/Veg and HPS/Flower but unfortunately i dont have the space or funds at the moment, so CFL for both stages will have to do. I have seen so many great grows with just CFL so it can be done :D

Also i have 200w 2700k CFL for 1 plant, Top69 Auto, and still need more soon!

Ok so how many 6500k and 2700k should I have for 3 plants during veg? Just to get an idea compared to what I have. To make sure I have enough to get good plants

For 3 plants you are gunna want atleast 100w for veg, a good rule of thumb is 3 to 1. So for every 3 6500k bulbs add 1 2700k bulb for veg, just to mix up the spectrum abit :)
Youll probably want around 100w for the veg period to cover 3 plants, but more is obviously better, its upto you
