2000W Medical Garden, Prepetual Multi Strain Grow

Hello once again RIU Community,

The following will be my second grow journal contribution to RIU since I became a member. In my last grow I did 3 Fire OG's under 6 39w Par Spectrum T5's. While I loved the quality of the medicine that I grew, the t5's did exactly what I thought they would do in the flowering period and made the bud a bit more leafy then I would have liked. Now dont get me wrong, I still love par t5's and I can see their place in growing very well, and I think if I had not had some of the problems I did durring the grow I wouldnt have had the same results. That being said, I decided that I have truely fallen in love with growing and that sooner or later I would be going to HID lighting so I mine as well do so now.

After thinking for a while I decided the best way to go about this was to build 2 walls and make a 12X8 room inside of my garage. Build on that is about 75% done and I should have it up and ready in about 2 more days.

Once I finish construction I will go into detail on what will be inside the room as far as equipment and nutrients and the like. I do allready have my girls ready to go into the room in 2 weeks since I felt it would make me finish the flowering room faster if I had to have it done by a certain time. My first cycle in this prepetual will be Kens Grand Daddy Purple. I took 6 clones back on the 5th of july, and they went into my veg unit on July 11th. As I was a soil grower before, and I have since switched to hydro I should prolly go into what type of system I am using. I had consided using a DWC or an RDWC setup, as they are the easiest to learn how to use, maintain and the like, but why play it safe? I decided to go the more Aeroponic/NFT route, and I am using modified versions of the Stinkbud Aero systems. I am using a 1 min on, 5 min off cycle for the spray, with a 14 gal tote for a res and an 18 gal tote for the spraying chamber. For the veg station, I am using 5 gal of nutrient mixed water, though depending on how this test run goes with veging the GDP I may increase the amount in the res.

I am using the nute lineup from Cutting Edge Solutions. It is the first time I have used the nute lineup from this company, so I will also try to evaluate the lineup as this journal continues. My goal is to do bi-weekly photo updates for this journal, though if it seems as though that ends up being too many pics I may change my mind on that front. I will say up front that any advice or imput as the grow goes on that is offered will be much appreciated, though I do ask that you try to refrain from bickering or going off topic too far inside of this journal.

Thanks for stoping in and I hope you stay around for the ride, it is going to be a good one I think.

Glad to see you getting the new grow area running. Thought you were dead for a minute there. :p

Nope, not dead, just was so busy trying to get the room designed, paid for and built that I had to take a little break from here. Great to see you kp, I poped two more of those seeds to see if i can get one going, been 6 days and no sprouts but I am gonna give it a week more since I dont have a seedling heat mat right now. Just a quick verbal update, pics will be taken again tomarrow. I got my recessed lighting installed yesterday, will be changing the normal lights that are in those cans to green cfls for going in the room durring the dark cycle if I need to. We also finished taping and mudding the inside walls of the room. Hopefully today or tomarrow I will be able to finish my 240v wireing up in the attic where I plan to keep my ballasts, and will be able to finish the 120v wireing inside the room. (That is just connecting 4 wires in the one exposed pannel on the side wall then insulating and putting the last 2 dry wall peices up.) The way it is looking I will have the room finished by tues and wed and be able to move the 3 plants I threw into a rubbermaid tote to flower under the first 1000w light while the rest finish veging. About a week and a half till I will be moving my first strain, GDP into the flower room and really get going.

7-23-12 Update

Hows it going folks. In this update I will be uploading my pics to RIU just so it shows pics in the info screen. I prefer hosting the pics elsewhere but would love for more folks to sub and help out and comment if they would. Have found that if it doesnt show pics in the info then people dont come by, not that I can blame them. Also before I get into the update, if anyone is growing the same strains as I am and they would like to throw pics of their plants up in here so there is a nice compare and contrast I think that it would be very helpfull in times to come. So I will be reping anyone who is helping to contribute to this journal. All of you who have subed in the past know how I am about making sure to do that allready. Anyways, time for the update.

Starting off I am going to talk a bit about the nutes I will be using for now. I am working with Cutting Edge Solutions nute lineup, and suplimenting it with Dyna Gro's ProTek. I originaly was going to use the full DynaGro lineup, however when I was testing DynaGro in my herb hydro (and yes I mean herbs, basil, dill, ect) I did not like how much salt buildup there seemed to be. Dont get me wrong, DynaGro is a great product, however since I am using a type of aeroponic system, i didnt like the idea of how much buildup I was seeing. Thus far since switching to CES I havent seen the same ammount of salt buildup, and my plants seem to be liking what they are getting. I havent seen a journal done with CES yet, but I have spoken with some other local growers who swear by it, so I am hopefull. If anyone has any experiance with CES and would like to offer imput I would greatly apprecate it. As I mentioned, I did keep ProTek in my lineup as I really do like and see its usefullness with the ammount of Silica that it adds. At this point in time I dont think I would use any nute lineup and not add ProTek into the feeding schedule.
Veg Room GDP GSC 013.jpg

Since my mothers are feeding heavily, I took a bit of a risk and started out at nearly full strenght of the recomended doses for CES's lineup. It takes me to about 1.1ec's which sounds a bit hot for weeks 1 and 2 of veg, but I am not seeing any burn or lockout from any of the plants and things are looking pretty good IMO. I have 2 differnt strains veging right now, Kens GDP is in week 2 of veg, and my Girl Scout cookies are in week 1 (with the exception of two of those girls which will be veged an extra week since they were ready in the cloner when I put the GDP in, but wont go to their flowering systems until their sisters go in 3 weeks.)

That is the monday report, new pics will be posted on Thurs or friday I believe, however if anyone wants to see anything before then please let me know. I will prolly add some mother plant shots later in the week as well, but that is here nor there. On the seedling front, my SDXSB seeds havent broken the surface yet, giving em 4 more days then going to try to pop the rest of the ones that I have. Hopeing to get something there soon as I really need a more sativa dom plant in my garden for phase 4 of the prepetual. Also have 1 pineapple thai seed a friend gave me that I may try to pop as well. So wish me luck on that front.

For all the t5 folks that are out there. What distance are you keeping your bulbs off your plants. I want to get a bit more stretch in veg so I want to see what everyone else is doing cause I think I am keeping the lights too low since my node spacing is really tight, almost too tight for what I have planed in the flower room.

Snooch to the Nooch!!!!!

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that I supercroped all of the GDP in the middle of this week to get some side branching early for when they get SCROGed in the flower room. What I am planing is week 1 top, week 2 super crop, week 3 top durring veg. Will see if that is too much stress, but I dont think so with the ways the GDP took everything I did so far in stride and recovered in about 10 hours each time thus far.

sub'd

looking to enhance my knowledge of perpetual. looks like a sweet setup

Thanks for subbing, I did alot of research before I began the perpetual, and tried to take the best elements I could find out of all the styles I researched. I cant wait to finish the flower room and get my hood(s) mounted. For me, the prepetual wont honestly feel real for another 4 or 5 weeks when I get my 2nd 1000w light. but by then I will have the first crop 3-4 weeks into flower, the second crop 1-2 weeks into flower and be putting in the 3rd crop the day after I install the second light. Ever get that shakey excited feeling that just makes you want to run around the house? Thats how that new flower room is making me feel. Just wish the 100+ weather would stop so it wasnt such a pain in the ass to get into the attic to finish the 240 electricty and finish wirieing the 110 as well. Its 2 hours of work that keeps getting pushed off cause right now I cant handle how hot it is up there when I am working in semi close quarters.

I know I did a photo update yesterday, but I was able to finish planting my girl scout cookies last night in their temperary home for veg cycle after I posted. So not much new info to add other then I am really likeing the CES. Very PH stable after the Plant Amp does its thing, and the girls seem to be loving it.

A bit about my hydro setup in Veg. I am using a modified form of Stinkbud's Aeroponic Veg Station, with CES Nutrients. It is currently on a 1:15 second on, 5:45 second off cycle. It seems to be going really well in that setup. The GSC clones were only in the setup for about 12 hours when they allready started shooting through the Hydroton and down into the Aero chamber. That works out to about 4 inches of root growth from going from just a rapid rooter plug sitting in a cell station barely rooted, to hydroton and the system in about 12 hours. Really likeing the results so far. Also I see the spots on the leaves. Did a foliar feeding durring their night cycle today, then got too busy working on finishing the flower room to come back and rinse them off before lights came on. I am just hoping those spots dont burn or do too much damage before the lights go off tomarrow so i can get in there and spray em. I could go kill the lights for this cycle and spray, but they have only been on for about 4 hours, and dont really want to cause them any problems just to do a rinse. Maybe I can go in there and kill 2 of the 3 ballasts and do a rinse without doing any damage. Anyone out there have an opinion please?

rinse with plain water? i spray with the lights on right when they come on or are about to go out. what you have to watch for is what you add to the water, plain water should never burn a plant even in the middle of the day. think about plants in the wild sometimes it rains then sun shines hard as fuck you dont see plants getting crispy from this.

what i would do is dim the lights rinse them then let them dry for an hour then turn the lights back on full blast :)

True I hadnt thought it out that way but that makes alot of sense. I had the never spray anything with the lights on pounded so hard in my head I forgot to think about nature. Thanks bro, omw to go clean my sprayer and get busy.

very nice room in the making subbed and cant wait to se the room done..

Thanks for subbing Reggae. Tomarrow I am hoping to finish everything inside the room except installing my gear. At least that is the goal. The outside of the room isnt going to be taped and mudded and painted for a little bit since I dont care about the exterior walls lol. Today however I finished hooking up the 2 20 amp circuts for the wall plugs in the new walls, finished installing the ressed lights where I will have my green lights for sleepy time entry to the room, finshed the rest of the insulation, finished the drywall, and got the expanding foam in to most of the seals around the room the light and dust proof it. So just have the foam trim, the caulking, the door, painting, the 240v plugs for the balasts, and the 2 6 and 8 inch holes for all the various intakes and exhausts. I am thinking I can finish all of that tomarrow, and be able to put up the first part of the gear on friday. If I can do that I will be able to pull out the 3 sad little plants I saved when I was practicing cloneing and get them out of their rubermaid tote and 4 cfls and under 1000w of HPS Glory!

EDIT: Tomarrow I will be photo updating the room's status, my mothers, and my 3 little girls I just threw into the backyard and into my Fiance's veggie garden!

I agree, but most people dont have the space or the support of their loved ones to persue this passion into almost an obsession. Man I cant wait to finish my room, if my fiance wernt asleep I would be in there working right now.

Any good books on how to install 110 electricity like you have done? I'm a reader
If you want to start with the basics of installing electricity, Home Depot carries a book from Black & Decker called Electricity 101 and another about household electricty. Good place to start if you havent been working with electricity for a long time as I have. I got all my knowledge from experiance back when I was a kid, and then even more with I did apartment maintnace after I got out of the Army. I will give ya some advice that I learned the hard way back then. When working with 240v and another person on your job site, dont ask them to turn of the circut and then trust that they will. Almost died from that when I was working on a hot water heater and got thrown into the drywall behind me when i got hit with that 240v. At least 240 pushes you, with 110v you need to be carefull as it can grab and hold you by contracting your muscles. As allways if you arent experianced you should hire a certified electrician, but the books I mentioned are a good start to understanding the simple 110v work. If I remember right it even teaches you how to do full circut boxes, and sub pannels.
