actually, you're the one asserting that it must not be called the thing that it is, so you're going to have to answer what the big issue is.
No, gays and lesbians are asserting that it must be called marriage, so that would put the burden on them and the ones that support it!

nice try. if i had to speak for them, i would say it's because they don't want their loving marriages to be looked at as inferior, or second class.

on the flip side of the coin though, you are asserting that it must not be called marriage, so the burden is also on you to tell us why it must not be called what it is.

There is absolutely nothing in the constitution that supports any kind of marriage as being a right.
exactly correct.

but it does say something about equal protection of the law in the constitution. so if a state is going to hand out marriage licenses, all must enjoy equal protection of the law.

so why can't the gays have one then. like straight people?
Like I've said, I believe they should have all the same rights afforded by the constitution as do traditional married couples. They're argument is for equal right under the law, I say let them have it.

keep dodging because you have no good reason to assert that they shouldn't call it marriage.

If gays and lesbians were allowed to call it marriage, would you agree to a federal law that would protect religious institutions from being sued for not marrying them.

who gives a shit what some bigoted, backwards church does. as long as the state hands out the marriage license. there are plenty of churches that will marry them.
