How can increase my root growth?

Im finding that the bottom of my baskets allow the tap root and some others to follow out the bottom but the sides of my baskets all the roots die or dead end with brown tips. my baskets are filled with rockwool, potclay on the top .

Can anyone suggest a possible solution for this problem?

My water temp is 18-22 degrees, i also have a second res that runs 23-25 with the same problem.

I need to increase my root growth please help?
 
That's light pruning your roots.

Try covering your tray with pandafilm or something. Then cut holes and drop your netpots in there. If you keep light off of them then they wont die like that
 
You can also trim the long roots when placing in your pots. Not much maybe 1/2 inch. This will stress them for a week but creates one hell of a rootball.
 
Is this on some kind of flood table where the sides of the rootmass are exposed to air and light?
If so you might be able to get away with either filling the table with hydroton or simply making some
kind of plastic cover to create a dark damp area for the roots to grow out.
 
that second res is on the warm side. try a beneficial bacteria like pondzyme or greatwhite, they make for huge, happy roots.
 
One setup is an clone with top drip to dwc, 4 plants in a rubber made, thew other is in 10l buckets with black lids, about 2cm of water stays in the bottom after feed and the rest returns to the res.

I think podzyne or greatwhite is what im looking for.

What will help a little IMHO.

I'm assuming that your in rockwool or some kind of rapid rooter plug.

Clone at 300-400 EC of Dyna-bloom(High P content) in RO water.
Add 1 drop per gallon superthrive.
Add 1 mil per gallon of RE.
Follow standard cloning practices as outlined almost everywhere.

For me this made a noticeable difference, and I take lots of clones.

The sooner that you can get the roots started and thriving, the better.
Root growth mainly happens in pre-veg and veg, from my observations.
Growing the top half is a lot easier than growing the bottom half.

Pondzyme is an enzyme and GW is beneficial bacteria they do different things, if you want to clean up rotting, decaying or dead roots an enzyme is what you need, then beneficials to aid in root production and health.

Just be careful adding anything with an enzyme directly to your res. They can contribute to slime outbreaks as youre feeding both the bennies and the nasties. Thats why brewing a tea is so widely recommended, you get the benefits of the good bacteria without contributing to the bad bacteria.. Plus, $15 of myco and $15 of ewc can last you a few months or a few years more depending on use. Tough to beat with store bought products.

Bennies don't actually do anything directly to the plant that will increase your root growth though, rather they prevent problems that will slow down your root growth or worse. So definitely a good idea to use, but if you already have healthy roots and a healthy plant don't expect any overwhelming improvements.

I think you have the right idea, a higher P food will increase the plants potential for root growth, but I would still advise caution when using a high P food . A proper balance is more important and more beneficial than an emphasis on one area of nutrition for one area of physiology. All the root growth potential in the world won't matter if the plant is starved for N or you get a lockout of micros.

Indole-3-butyric acid is a developmental hormone that contributes to root growth. You could look into supplementing with that too, I've never gotten far enough into it to really understand specific mechanisms or applications.

Are you using an ebb-and-flow system? If so, there is nothing wrong with light pruning IMO. The roots will only grow to seek more nutrients when it comes to light exposure. If they are getting all they need from their current setup, why expend the energy for more growth? I have had maximum yields with minimum root growth as long as I run the nutrients high without burning the plant.
 
Get yourself some Home and garden Roots Exceleratur....I pretty much swear by this stuff I will never grow without it again after noticing a huge difference in using this stuff vs. not using it. Im talking noticeable differences within hours bro shits amazing. It is super expensive though but if you can afford I think its worth it
