I'm lucky in that I've never really had to dress up for work, the dressiest I ever had to be was we had to wear collared shirt and no jeans. I won't wear slacks so Dockers, which still is almost as bad, and no sneakers, I ended up with brown suede shoes.
I actually did look halfway decent, but it's just not me. I did wear a suit for the initial job interview. Hehe I looked very uncomfortable. Weddings, funeral, job interviews are the only suit occasions, and that happens once maybe every five to ten years.
Most of my career was in radio, so no one cares how you look. And now I deal with people on the phone,,so it doesn't matter either. All about comfort and feeling good for me
