or is it too early to tell, i did the best i could with taking the pictures, i also have tons of gnats, pretty sure they are gnats they are tiny black things that fly and are quick as hell when i try and squish them they always get away....also, today is a month that these 2 plants have been in these pots, do i need to transplant again soon? i put some pictures up so you can see what size they are. they are in a 10 diameter 10 ft pot, and they are 2 months oldView attachment 2337937View attachment 2337938 photo(4).jpgphoto(5).jpg

Way way too early. For the gnats, try sprinkling powdered cinnamon onto your soil. cn

<edit> Those plants are two months old? What is your lighting?

i only have one 100 watt cfl per plant. is that bad? i mean, i know its a lot lower lighting then i should be using but im having $ problems, so ya. i was trying to kill a gnat and it landed on the soil, and so i pushed a little aside and some strange really small white oval thing scurried by. is it larvae? i mean wtf is growing in the soil damn

Is it 100 actual watts or equivalent. If it's 100w per plant, that isn't THAT bad. If it's equivalent you need more. Go by ACTUAL watts.

well i went to lowes and the highest cfl's they had were 26 watt equivalent to 100. i dont even know where i would get higher wattage, they should be a lot bigger for 2 months but they seem to be doing fine, just growing slow. im low on funds, i was planning on buying 2 more of those same lights i have, their like 12$ a piece so that's why i've been putting it off....but i discovered a gnat larvae in one of the pots in the soil, and the adult gnats are taking over the room, so i heard i should get those yellow sticky traps for the adults and not water for a couple days to dry out the soil, then use 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 4 parts water and its supposed to kill the larvae instantly, i also put a small slice of potato and set it on top of the soil in each pot because apparently the larvae love potatoes so within 4 to 8 hours i should be able to see the potato with larvae on it. what a mess.

i had gnat problems to once. The bigger problem for you is that you need to do more reading. They will only show sex once you start flowering (sometime they show it before flower if you veg them for a long long time). If you didn't know that.. then you have bigger problems. Get out there and read the disgusting amount of info on this site that is right in front of you, literally.

More light. 52 watts total explain the very slow growth Quadruple that!
And try the cinnamon. it controls fungus gnats.

Actually, plants of a sufficient vegetative age will show primordia (preflowers) that'll allow sexing before switching the lights. But these plants are too physiologically young. cn

I know times hard now. If u like me money short. But this is from experience.time u invest in cfls . You can buy a cheap 400mh_hps under 200 buks.and never be worried withmoving 1light here and same chit over imho cfl will grow dank .hid will increase yield dramatically. I never. Sell my stash. Till i figured. I could give my buddies a bag. And they donteme some moneyThen purchas 400switcheable mh/hps .it wasbest upgrade i ever made. Dont worry bout moving lights.now iveg with it . Flower hydro farm 1000watt bought it and a spare 400wattmh on craiglist one bill both work fine good .just giving my honest opinion.you can buy 250 watt nder 100buks not hating on Cfls they got me where I'm AT today

thank you for your advice, it sounds like that's what I need to do, but I can't afford to spend a couple hundred dollars let alone 100 dollars right now, i'm planning on letting them veg for a whiiiiiiile, unless i can afford to buy decent lights and speed up the growing process. i'm MORE CONCERNED about the larvae/gnat situation. it's freaking me out, i looked up the cinnamon technique and it didn't sound to promising, i'm not doubting you, but what purpose would it serve? i know i use cinnamon sticks around the house because it keeps ants away, but wouldn't the most logical explanation be to buy the yellow traps for the adult gnats and use something else like the hydrogen peroxide, and cover the soil with a 1/2 inch of sand? H2O2 is supposed to kill the larvae, the traps would catch the gnats preventing them from laying eggs in the soil, and if there were still larvae after all that any remaining gnats wouldn't be able to lay eggs on the sand and the larvae wouldn't be able to reach the top of the soil.....@ CN, the preflowering and showing of sex....that's if I let them veg for a while correct, wouldn't that be better to keep it at the rate i'm going, maybe buy like 4 more of the cfl's i have because all the higher wattage ones i wouldnt have a lamp that would hold that much wattage, 300 watt cfl? damn, do those even exist? lol, or is it more of a floodlight.....now i'm rambling. you guys ARE helping me, and I appreciate the time you are taking out of your day to help a complete stranger.

300 Watt. Cfls I've seen been online. And yes they take bigger socket. 26watt Cfls work fine. That's what I used remember. Keep the Cfls close within couple inches of your plants for tight node spacing. After couple grows you will find hint away. To upgrade

It seems like you really want pest advice, I suggest checking out the bugs section of the plant problems forum

SERIOUSLY improve your ventilation and air-flow and look into getting a product called Azamax. use the soil drench application, It is completely safe to apply up until the day of harvest and will kill fungus gnat eggs and larve (what you have in your soil there)

Hello dboss
300-watt CFLs (actual, not "equivalent") exist, but they are specialist bulbs intended for indoor growing ... and are priced accordingly. For the money, I'd consider going either T5 or HID.
The cinnamon thing has been shown to work against fungus gnats. You need to more or less cover the soil or work, say, a tablespoon per pot into the top layer of the soil. The trouble with peroxide is that a solution strong enough to kill the gnats will seriously upset the other microflora ... whose activity is imo one of the key reasons for growing in soil in the first place.
As for the preflower, it's somewhat strain- and pheno-dependent, but once your plants are old enough, they'll show. More light will mean faster growth and maturation. cn

I had to do it and sorry not sure of the name of them. I tried lol well Hope this helps the adapters are only a dollar or two so cheap
