Got damn gnats/fruitfly's in my soil HELP!

I did one round had a tiny lil bity gnat problem threw out the harvast, wile waiting awile for clones cuz my moma died I left the pots in a closet for the time being. didn't buy new soil so I mix around my old organic soil.(cuz im broke) to make it feel new agian. filled pots an transplated an with in the next coupld days. I had damn gnats so I had some left over azatrol made a bottle mixture started to spray. It seemed to help. but nope they came back so drenched some of pots didn't seem to help them eather. Even let em dry for 5 days. I'm stumped here. any suggestion on how to get rid of these damn fuckin things! Thanx Rage

+Get a product called Go Gnats. I had a nasty infestation growing a week ago. I have done 1 application, no more gnats. This product lives up to it's name. It is a cedar oil compound and all natural. If God needed to get rid of gnats he would use this stuff.

that may be an issue since you say you are broke. I paid $23.00 for 8 oz. But I only do 2 plants at a time. So it will last a long time to come.

There are people here that have used other much cheaper methods. Some work, some don't. I wanted something that I knew would work. I hate experimenting with shit that can hurt my girls. So it was definately worth the cost.

Also make sure to let your top layer dry out alot alot... like crusty crunchy.... ( btw generally like if you scrap down about past ur 1st knuckle... odds are the medium should still be moist... )

use a sand layer on the top your pots... like a nice .5-1 inch or so of playground sand. This will prevent gnats from laying eggs and kill any eggs or larve already in the soil. BTW a bag is like $3 at walmart and will last quite a while.

If those don't work, gognats or mosquito dunk.

Use sand on the top few inches. They cannot live or survive that. Also perlite on top. Anything to keep them from laying. N don't reuse your dirt anymore, especially pre infected dirt. Common sense my friend. U wouldn't put a used band aid on a new cut right

I had problems with gnats when I grew in soil, and could never get rid of them. Since changing to coco, the gnats are gone, and my plants grow faster, with buds of better quality.

Never seen so many bad replies. Sand? Perlite? Sticky traps?

Sand - will smother your soil and keep it too wet. Plus the bastards will dig right thru it.
Perlite - Imagine yourself the size of a gnat. Now land on the perlite. Nothing stops the mighty gnat.
Sticky traps - Sure they can catch a few here and there. But once the babies come out you will be inundated with bugs.

You have to get to the root of the problem. Kill the eggs and make it impossible for their offspring to survive. The only way to kiss those things goodbye for good is to use a good organic insecticide and "wash" the soil with it. Go Gnats, as mentioned above, is good. Azamax is also good and is what I use for soil washes. The problem is these things can be expensive but they are worth the money. If one gnat lives you can get 500 babies in 2 weeks.

I found the best way to make sure they never bother you is to use the insecticide 2 to 3 weeks into veg. Most "moms" will come out of their eggs by that time and you will start to see 1 or 2 here and there. Then the party starts and more eggs are laid. If you catch it at this point you will kill the new/old eggs plus the adults will die off within a week of using it.

One warning with these products is do NOT use them within 3 weeks of harvest. They need a few weeks to metabolize the ingredients. That's why I use it early in veg. Works like a charm.

get some ortho from walmart.plant safe.mist top soil and a light mist to plants less thier budding.EPA harmless but kill everything thats pest.always good to clean and spray the room before yu set out plants saves future problems.

Diatomaceous earth on top (its like broken glass for bugs), or just let the soil dry out a few times. Getting rid of them in soil is easy, hydro takes a bit more (mosquito dunks). Honestly just wait till the pots dry completely one or 2 times will solve the problem.

I used aztrol, when I only had to two pots under the lights wile the rest were cloneing. An it seemed not to work I soaked the two pots an even sprayed every day kept em down a lil but there were still there. So you think I should go get another bottle of azatrol or somthing an keep trying? I got about 2-3 weeks tell i turn em to flower.

The only way you will get rid of those fungus knats completely is to target all 3 of the life cycles. You need to water using mosquito dips (bacteria) to kill
the larva (available at home depot or hydro shop) then you have to worry about the eggs on the plant might try azatroll neem oil or you could go stronger and then 3rd you have to get any knats in the room
that I would recommend a pyrethrum, bomb for as its not very toxic and breaks down fast but works good.
