Yup, what the hell are you on about? My best friend is black. Known him since the 8th grade. He agrees with me on Detroit.

Lmao - Detroit has no grocery stores because corporations are racist. You sure your name ain't Chapelle? This attitude is half of the problem Detroit has. Blaming its issues on ridiculous shit. Why do you think it has such a reputation? News flash: most other inner city populations are largely black and they have grocery stores.

And I said my family is from Detroit. Not the 'burbs.
Yeah just Detroit, that's why there are news articles from national organizations about it all over the Internet from the last 5 years, and when you start to type "lack of grocery" in goggle it automatically finishes with "in urban areas"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28300393/ns/health-diet_and_nutrition/t/urban-areas-struggle-get-grocers-fresh-food/

Gee, even a big enough problem that it's got it's own wiki page..

Get out of your fucking bubble people. I'm done with this shit. If you live in Michigan and have a medical card, but hate Detroit, fuck you, kill yourself. You wouldn't have MMJ in this state without Detroit and the metro area. Detroit passed medical along with Ann arbor in '06 and the liberal population of the city and metro suburbs are the reason statewide passed in '08. With out the 3 million socially liberal people here you guys would all still be criminals, or pussies to scared to grow weed, buying from your cousin's friend.

When did I say I hated Detroit? I'd love to see that city revitalized. I'm in Ann Arbor and like it here, but I long for a bustling big city nearby. I've always been bummed it's a shithole. But the thing is, fixing problems begins with acknowledging that they exist. Detroit has HUGE issues that need some very drastic action to deal with. I feel sorry for the people that live there. They're poor and have to fight hard just to survive. It's a miserable place to live, and I strongly believe in the good in most people. But there are a lot of assholes on a rampage who are completely unchecked, and the things a big city should have and truly needs, Detroit lacks.

MMJ would've passed without Detroit. 3 million voted yes, 1.8 million voted no. That's a difference of 1.2 million. The population of Detroit is 700,000. You could've wiped Ann Arbor off the map too and it still would've passed. We owe gratitude to the entire state, though Detroit and Ann Arbor in particular. Detroiters know what it's like to get fucked by corporations and the government, as that's why that city is so fucked up right now. Usually leads to liberal perspectives...

The point stands that over 50% of Detroiters would leave tomorrow if they could afford it. A clear majority of Detroiters hate where they live. That says a lot. You're in the minority.

Regarding any possible increase in population from whites, it's probably because of the horrible economy and falling incomes - they're having to return to that dump because they can't afford to live anywhere else.

Honestly what has happened to Detroit makes my blood boil. It's on the same scale as what happened to New Orleans. It's completely inexcusable for a civilized society to let that shit happen. If I weren't able to laugh at things like that too, I would probably have lost my mind by now. I do care.

I did not say Detroit. Said metro Detroit, aka suburbs touching the city and such. Without Wayne county and places in Oakland like ferndale and royal oak, it would not have passed.

Oops, you're right, I misread your post. I'm very sleep deprived this week.

Every single county in the state voted for MMJ. You could've wiped Detroit and the Detroit metro area off the map, along with Washtenaw and Oakland county and it would've passed...

Oaky, so it would have barely passed, instead of passing by the largest margin of any state in the country without the metro area, just Wayne, Oakland and macomb county account for 1.2 million yes votes.

This is sad but so true. I cannot count how many friends have found themselves in financial hardship the past few years and were forced to move their families back to the D just to have a roof over their heads :(

Subtracting Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb county, you get the following numbers:

1,749,925 yes :: 1,177,138 no
total: 2,927,063 votes
60% yes, 40% no

Still a landslide. That's 1.5 yes votes for every no. The actual numbers were 63% yes and 37% no. Again, we owe our gratitude to the entire state.

Yes, let's pick apart election statistics and look over all of the blatantly racist and ignorant things that have been said. Okay you win. Medical would have still passed. Does not change any of my other points. Still think Detroit is the only city with no grocery stores?

Name another major city without a decent grocery...

I haven't said anything racist... pointing out Detroit's problems does not constitute racism. Racism = blaming or judging someone solely because of their race. I haven't done that and nor has anyone.

Racism is more than that. You have a very simplistic, literal concept of racism.

Did you click on any of the links I posted? Type lack of grocery in google and see what comes up. There are Wikipedia pages devoted to it. Google food desert.

South Side of Chicago is in the city limits. What are you talking about? You obviously need to lay off the weed. It doesn't help your debate skills.

I fail to see any difference between Detroit and Chicago, other than the fact that they some how can still afford ammo ;) Checkout their crime stats :o

Chicago is indeed a very dangerous city, but it doesn't have Devil's Night, it doesn't have abandoned areas greater in size than Boston, and the murder solving rate is higher. The number of crimes reported is probably lower in Detroit, too. Detroit's financial problems and unemployment are also worse. I have a number of friends living in Chicago who love it there, (and I once lived there myself), but no one I know has any plans to linger in Detroit longer than they have to.

I'm not talking about a part of the city that lacks a decent grocery, I'm talking about a city that doesn't have one anywhere within the city limits, which is what the Free Press reported being the case last year. And once you resort to personal attacks you make it clear you have lost the debate, because it adds nothing to your argument and only makes you look foolish.

Racism is more than that. You have a very simplistic, literal concept of racism.

Well, you have a very ambiguous concept of racism, so vague and broadly generalizable as to be meaningless. People who pull the race card as freely as yourself are the reason people roll their eyes when someone screams "racist!" You're doing yourself and others of your race no favors by doing so.

And you did not provide any details of how I am somehow a racist, lol. Just... you fucking racist, you are pointing out problems in my city, and my city is mostly black, so you must hate blacks. Total nonsense. The majority of blacks living in Detroit agree with me, and disagree with you,
seeing as they want out ASAP, so they must be some kind of Chapelle-esque deaf and blind Ku Klux Klanners, right? Honestly I think you're the first black guy I've met who was in denial about the existence of anti-white racism. You remind me of all the clowns who thought those who wanted Kilpatrick out of office were racist.

Either way, I really don't care if you want to keep living in what is widely considered one of the worst places in the country to be. If you like existing in a disaster zone, so be it. I'll keep living in Ann Arbor, where MJ is basically legal, and I can walk around at 4am without fear of getting shot or stabbed, and you can continue living there, where MJ laws are still enforced, and 911 calls for shots fired go unanswered for hours or days, if ever. Your choice, your problem. I just feel sorry for the people who want out and can't make it happen.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Detroit-Michigan.html

According to this, over the last decade, Detroit's murder rate has averaged 2-3x that of Chicago's, Detroit's assault rate has averaged 2-3x that of Chicago's, and Detroit's arson rate has averaged 5x that of Chicago's. Chicago also has 33% more cops per capita, and Detroit is about to lay off over 10% of their department. Median household income in Chicago is about 2x that in Detroit, and rent in Detroit is on average only about 15% more (the average rent in Ann Arbor is only 25% more than that of Detroit... I think it's more than worth it, especially since I don't need a car to get by here, and my commute is a 2 minute walk - saves a ton of money.) Official unemployment is 70% higher in Detroit, though the real figure is probably far greater, given how few even bother looking for a job anymore there.
