whats the reason of hell?

the concept of hell is horrific, just the very thought is truly mind-boggling. that a supreme being would send a being into an endless experience of pure torture. what could someone possibly do in their 100 something year existence to deserve such punishment. just doesn't sound logical to me.

My somewhat cynical take is that Hell is an entirely human construct devised to give the Church(es) the power of the stick and not just the carrot. cn

I believe in Heaven, all of it, and I believe in Hell. The reason for it is there are consequences for your actions. Does it stop me from doing wrong? On some things yes, some things no.

To scare kids and adults to live by the "straight and narrow" path the bible preaches.
Best way to get someone to do something "right" is to scare them into doing it.

If we ran amuck on this planet with NOTHING to fear, it would be utter chaos. Imagine billions of people not believing in some sort of religion and the consequences of everyday actions, it sets morals and guidelines to prune a lot of things from peoples lives and instill peace and submission... Religion is necessary to control those who believe in it. Why do you think the vatican fights science? There has to be some sort of system in place to teach people common sense wrongs and rights. If you have time you should google the HIGGS BOSON particle. This is likely the cause of all matter.

First post btw, whats up all!

To scare you into submission and nothing more.

An omnibenevolent being is incapable of such concepts.

That's one of the reasons I know one does not exist. Perhaps one does, but if it does, the concept of hell will be just as foreign to it as it is to you.

Enjoy the ride.

I believe there are chaotic, horrible dimensions where you sometimes find yourself in while under the influence of powerful hallucinogens, where you can also end up after you die. It would be your personality that leads you to that chaotic place though, not punishment from a godly being.

Most of those people I believe you're referring to are born without such things as empathy, it's not as if they have them and simply ignore them, it doesn't work that way. Would it be justified for them to end up in such a place under no real consequence of their own?

The concept of infinite punishment for a finite crime is ludicrous. If one does good because of some divine surveillance camera in the sky, that say a lot about that person's character. I was once asked by a coworker, 'if you don't believe in hell, then why don't you around stealing, and killing and raping people?' That really opened my eyes, and I began doing these things right away. It's a fun and inexpensive way to have a great time, and I would have never thought about it if it wasn't for her question. Thanks, Peggy!

People like that scare me, and a religion that perpetuates that that billions of people believe in is even scarier...

Be kind OR ELSE!

The fuck kind of morality is that?!

Morals and religion are as different as church and state.

Hell is a little monkey's story it tells it's little monkey babies...

Yeah, maybe it is a good thing we have the hell concept to scare these crazy fucks into submission, or they'd be out raping and killing us (maybe not even in that order). Even Stalin shouldn't get eternal punishment, maybe a thousand years for each person he's killed. That's a LOT less than FOREVER...

Their choices and experiences shaped their personality into something chaotic and unstable, all the bad decisions they make are self destructive so they would be attracted to these dimensions against their will. I dont know though, that just makes sense to me. I dont fear 'hell' or take a lot of time to think about it, too many questions to ask.
