Interestingly, I see this with a majority of pro-death-penalty posters ... the description of the convict in dehumanizing terms. You did it. Dr. Kynes did it. They're scum, but they are still humans, and we cannot simply flick'em off the end of our figurative shoe after declaring them nonmembers in humanity. It's a logic of double standards. Jmo. cn

You and me are at opposite ends of the spectrum on this issue but we come to the same conclusion. I tend to agree with Kynes and Althor about execution as appropriate punishment for some criminals. The reason I think the death penalty should never be used, though, is simple pragmatism: I have seen MANY innocent people convicted of crimes; I am certain some innocent people have been executed.

I guess that depends on the definition of human. If that definition includes something like humanity, then Dahmer was not human, since he lacked humanity. I am not saying it was his fault. He was criminally insane with no cure. There is nothing to do with something like that except for putting it down.
Wasnt it you that said prison was worse? I agree. Locking Dahmer in a cage for the rest of his life was no good for anyone, definitely not him.

I feel we can save money if we have life instead of death. Funny enough but true.

I know some horrible people will get a longer life but there may be some who are not guilty get a longer life too.

I know that if it was me in prison for "death" and if I was not guilty it would be a small comfort to be in for life. Our Justice Industry is not perfect.

As I identify as a centrist, i don't think you and I can be at opposite ends.
But I am also compelled by the horror of the execution of an innocent. But at its core my argument isn't practical but moral. If we do this as a community, what does it say about us? Revenge is not a permissible motive for a collective such as a governing body. Jmo. cn

I agree on that point as well. GMO has done more to feed the hungry, growing population on this planet than every progressive that has ever drawn breath. This constant clamor that GMO is dangerous and unnatural is just a bunch of superstitious hooey. I am embarrassed for the people who object to GM crops, they might as well be wearing a sign that says, "kick me".

if a guy gets convicted of stabbing an old lady to death for $20, then gets released on parole after his national average of 7 years for murder 1 and then he immediately stabbinates another old lady for $15 and a sandwich yeah... its time to flush that turd.

Richard Alan Davis is the posterboy for the death penalty. he was in and out of slam for robbery, armed robbery, rape, assault, kidnapping, attempted murder, more rape, more kidnapping, another rape (he really digs rape) his last crime spree went as follows: he kidnapped robbed and raped a woman, got caught and convicted, then while out on parole, he got caught AGAIN for kidanpping raping and attempting to murder a woman after forcing her to empty her bank account at knifepoint. in his arraignment the judge didnt even look at his rap sheet, and released him on $0 bond. no sooner did he hit the street than he kidnapped raped murdered and then raped again a child of 12.

what would you propose to solve this problem? a stern warning?

First a stern warning, then a lethal injection. This guy (Davis) should have been sentenced to life without parole after robbery, and armed robbery.

I am against the condoms for pornstars mandate that was being voted on in California. As someone who does not live in California but does enjoy some of its fine products, that is the only law of concern to me.
