I can see your point brandon, I could have phrased my response in a different manner because you're correct in your assumption. I do not watch movies, TV or read authors of note because they make lots of money. I do such things for pure self satisfaction and the enjoyment those media bring. The devil is in the details. I could watch a sport and think that those individuals are of a talent or skill set I'd admire, but the fact that they make obscene amounts of money tarnishes the image greatly. I agree with many here that the intellectual has become lost amongst the so called elite of our time. If you watch and listen to the average football game you wouldn't be wrong in the assumption that these men are put in the same light as the demigods of old....the battle between Hercules and Apollo comes to mind. Is that comparison even logical, perhaps not, but the result is the same. Putting any man or woman on a pedestal is fraught with danger, whether it be direct or implied. Why are there thousands of children wanting to be the next Jordan or Jackson, but not da Vinci or Newton.
My disdain for professional sports today comes from the fact these people were once children who loved to play the game, but now love the money and fame the game brings. Sport used to be a true test of ones mettle, it now seems more a test of who's got the best looking hair.
As for fun...well I just look into my sons eyes and say " Sure, lets go throw the ball around for awhile" because he still loves the game of play. And I hang out here
