Right? Seriously! I can just get high and sit and stare at my closet for hours, hahaha. And that's not even counting when there's plants in there... then I could stare all day, haha.
Dude I am always thinking how to improve my shit. I even dream about it and then I wake up in the morning and right down what I dreamed about.

Hahaha, nice. I haven't had dreams yet but otherwise I'm right there with ya. This thread is evidence enough that I tend to think about twenty steps ahead of my current operation, LOL.

How goes it tonight Gigs? Doin well I hope. I'm having fucking chaos in my home life galore, but at least it's getting me writing songs. I'm a songwriter by trade. Or I'd like to be, if someone wants to pay me someday.

One of the cool benefits of getting my card is that I can feel a little more free to start revealing my personality on here... would love to share some of my songs with you RIU'ers someday... not to mention I can start meeting local patients and exchanging clones and shit :) I gotta call them tommorrow and try to find out about where I can get my medical records sent over for starters...

Haha I'm doing good bro just watching Aqua Teen lol. Just got done making some canna cookies and iso. Been a good night.

That's awesome that you write songs bro. I make techno/dubstep/dance music :D I would love to hear some of it. I make mixes when I'm stoned haha.

Cool man... glad to hear you're a fellow music head... verrrry interesting, I've been wanting to learn more about electronic lately because I've been getting really into honky rap like Macklemore.. I write a lot of intense prose, but I feel like i need to find a producer to help me write hip hop beats, or I need to get a lot better at some software to do it myself.

I mostly write sort of "acoustic guitar and voice" progressive modern folk stuff, but am learning piano now and having a lot of fun with that. But yeah, lately I've been pretty engrossed in some new wave rap stuff for sure... want to get my confidence in my spoken voice up so that I can keep my channel open... I got a pretty intense style when I can keep it real, but it's real fleeting for me too. I'm slowly learning to truly and fully not give a damn what other people think of me. That's no easy task for a vocalist, but I am on my way. I've dedicated my life to this... I'm still not on all the time but I've come a long way. I don't impress the pants off people yet, but I'm sort of biding my time for a big entrance when I finally let go completely.

Edit: How old are you again bro? I feel like you told me already but I forget...

P.S. I checked out your grow, they look really healthy, but I didn't see any flowering pics yet. My plants did great up until like the second week of flowering, then it started to degrade fast... I'd love to see what the results are at the end, if you have a link specifically to that.

If you'd like to walk me through what I'd need to add to my mix to get a balanced feed, I may very well give it a shot. As I said my mix is currently 5:3:2 Peat, Perlite, Worm Castings. Plus 2 TBSP Dolomitic lime per gal. What would you add to that base to fully amend for a full cycle?

The main thing that has kept me from embracing a fully-amended soil mix is my overall ignorance, haha. I do my best to learn as I go, but I didn't get that far along yet... i'm still barely understanding being able ot read the plants to get an idea what they need... but it would be nice if I could bypass the bulk of such situations by amending soil.

But I honestly probably won't pursue it unless I have an experienced mixer holding my hand at this point. If you're up to the task of helping, I'd love to hear what you recommend... otherwise i'll probably end up using my EJ again...
My bad I'm just getting back to ya haha but let me go ahead and say DON'T LET YOUR IGNORANCE at this point sway you haha.
Everyone has to learn how to do something before they feel comfy enough to start experiementing with it haha.

But I'm willing to help out with whatever question you might have bro. If I can answer them, I will. If not, we'll work on that then.....
And yeahh bra, I didn't wanna have to have all this extra shit laying around in my house haha...I live in a 1br apt, so there AIN'T much space!
And there wil be no reading the plant with a good organic soil haha! It should stay green!
And I'm finishing up my second week of flowering on Monday bro, and everythings still holding up!
I plan to go 10 weeks with all....But may have to pull some earlier of course.

But to your current soil mix Id add some weed food.
Some alfalfa meal, or kelp meal, or tomato tone, or plant tone.....
Then you need to add in your mineral amendments....your rock dust, or azomite......and you need some perlite for aeriation...and some lime...I use hi-cal lime.
And some mycos bro....Mycorrhizae fungi....They're supposed to supplement root growth greatly! But you don' NEED the mycos..

You NEED everything else I listed....If you add some food for the weed and some mineral amendments you'll be good bro.

Mark my words when I tell you that Teaming With Microbes will bring you up to speed!
But you gotta make the call lad...And do what your comfy with...

Checking out your tunes Sincerely, sounds real good! It's not really my style of rap but very talented... great flow... rock on dude... it's pretty fuckin' cool that you are out there making rap and found my thread... and then Gigs is over there making electronic and happened to find my thread too... meanwhile I am over here making progressive modern folk/punk/acoustic fusion stuff, looking to learn more about rapping and electronic beat-making! LOL! Can we all move to the same house and make music together now? LOL

Okay, so yeah, I do have some questions still about what I really need to add to my mix... for one thing I already got a lot of perlite in the mix, but you think I need to add more I take it? I gotta try to figure out ratios and which food options are the best additives... I will order some stuff via the net and mix up a batch to try, why not....

Sooo... saying I work with the mix I already have, basically what I have is 23 gal's (that's almost exactly 3 cu. ft) of a soilless mix that is almost identical to FFOF, except with dolomitic lime added... so do you think I could get away with following the precise recipe you posted near the beginning of your thread (I gotta go find it again, It hought I linked to it above but didn't) and just double up the additive figures? (ie, the recipe was for a mix with 1.5 cu ft of FFOF, but I'd be working with 3 cu ft instead)

Okay, so precise Q's:

Is there a reason to choose one over the other, between the foods you recommended: "Some alfalfa meal, or kelp meal, or tomato tone, or plant tone....." --
I guess I thought there would be more micro-managing the food additives process, like I'd have to add different things for N, P, and K... is that not the case?? Well I guess the worm castings in my original mix cover the N to some degree, but if my previous grows are any indication that will run out after a bit more than a month of veg time. So perhaps I'm getting more of a variety from the other ingredients than I assume? What can you tell me about that?

Next Q: What does rock dust or azomite provide? A whole bunch of different minerals? I assume other than Mg and Cal which should come from my dolomitic lime?

Next Q: Is dolomitic lime okay in place of "hi-cal" lime? What is the difference between the two?

Okay i found the mix recipe I was referencing that you posted:

Growing Style
-Growing Organically in 3 gal grow bags(w/perlite lined bottoms)consisting of an amended version of Fox Farm Ocean Forest:

-1.5 cu ft(11 gal approx.) Fox Farm Ocean Forest
-3 gal(64 cups)Wiggle Worms Earthworm Castings
-1 qt(4 cups) Gia Green Glacial Rock Dust
-Roughly 2 gal(36 cups)Perlite
-4 tsp Hi-Cal Lime
-3/4 cup Espoma Green Sand
-3/4 cup Espoma Tomato Tone
-3/4 cup Algamin Kelp Meal
-2 tbsp Sunleaves Indonesian Bat Guano
(later addition)

So, okay, for starters, it seems like that is a lot of extra worm castings to mix to my already existing mix, I'm totally paranoid about making it too hot. Maybe I'm wrong though, I guess you are adding a lot of extra perlite too which will help to balance that to some degree... just real paranoid about burning with worm castings because I felt like that happened with my last batch... but well... I guess if this mix has worked for you already I can take some comfort in that.

So, I see you are using kelp meal, and tomato tone together.. so there must be a reason why you wouldn't just do one or the other, can you explain that?

Do you feel the above recpie is still ideal, or would you change it for any reason if you were to be mixing it at this point?

What does the Green Sand do for ya exactly?

And I noticed that the Hi-Cal lime is only 4 tsp TOTAL, but I already added 2 TBSP of dolomitic lime per gallon! Those figures are worlds apart... so is the Hi-Cal lime a lot stronger than dolomitic or do I have way too much lime? I was always told 2 TBSP per gallon of media.

Okay now I'm just kinda wondering if my soil base is actually reflectant of FFOF at all, lol.

Okay, so I'm going to bark up a different tree now and say, since I started with LC's Soilless mix, maybe I should work with his mix for an idea of where to go from here. For reference, here is the mix that is naturally supposed to be built off the base I'm using:

http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-marijuana-growing/1025031-soil-mix.html

If you can take a glance over that recipe and give me an idea of what would be my ideal route at this point, given that I already mixed up the ratios for what I have, I'd be grateful! Honestly I just gotta know hwich things to buy and get my orders placed... can figure out exact amounts needed after the fact... just want to get stuff on the way so I can get it mixed ASAP...

NPK doesn't even apply when gardening organically haha! NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST! PH.....FUGGEDABOUTTTTIIIIIITTTT
Doesn't matter what you choose bro...There are a gang of amendments out there....I'd suggest just reading up a little on organic amendments and you'll see what I mean..
But cannabis is a heavy N feeder, so that's always the first to go...

The beauty of it is tho, is that you want a diverse soil....You're not gonna get everything you need out of any one of these amendments, so you pick and choose, and mix and match and you cant really go wrong.
Teaming With Microbes will put the puzzle together for you bro.
And worm castings don't burn plants, so you use them to brew bacteria in teas and you can use them top dress your plants with them occasionally. You'll need the 40lb bag lol.

BUT if I were you, I'd go after my second mix rather than the OG.
The OG is GREAT and I wouldn't say not to use it given what you see. I'm still all green three weeks into flowering using it!
The only yellowing I've had is from lack of light intensiry underneath the canopy with some smaller shaded leaves...

Next Q: What does rock dust or azomite provide? A whole bunch of different minerals? I assume other than Mg and Cal which should come from my dolomitic lime?
-MINERALIZATION AND TRACE ELEMENTS! Very important in our soil!

Next Q: Is dolomitic lime okay in place of "hi-cal" lime? What is the difference between the two?
-Dolomite lime is what I initially wanted, but could source it, so I got hi cal and it's worked out! So yeah you can go with dolo...It has less cal and more mag but it recommened by MANY A GROWER!

Worm casting DO NOT BURN haha! Not at all. I've read that you can grow in them alone lol..And that it wasn't ideal, but possible WITHOUT A DOUBT!
And I haven't burned anything using them yet! It had to be something else that burnt ya....Think about what you used and get back to me...Wasnt the worms tho!
They do help hold moisture tho, so you right about adding the perlite to help with drainage...The green sand also helps retain moisture while adding trace elements and minerals to the soil..Also it just improves the soil structure. All soil has some sand in it! Just trying to mock nature..
The green sand take FOREVER to break down tho...I'm talking a year or years haha so its mostly just a soil conditioner at this point...As it breaks down it provides a finite amount of K, but that wont be for another year haha or half one...

YOU ALSO REUSE YOUR SOIL OVER AND OVER AGAIN! So you don't gotta by anymore...You just amend it again ans let it sit after you use it.
So one day that green sand will be noticed!

Kelp Meal and Tomato Tone together for variety bro....The kelp meal also serves as food and a soil enrichment as it adds to the mineralization of the soil, as well trace elements. So it double as both...
MORE IT BETTER in terms of VARIETY....NOT QUANTITY...Put too much in the soil and you ruin it...

My first mix was just that lol my first mix, so I went light on everything to see how I'd do....
My second mix is mixed as it should be! I didn't go light on anything...I would copy the second one if I were you! I know it's gonna be a BEAST of a mix!

And as far as your lime....like it said I only added a little becuase I didn't know as much about soil and I read over and over again adding too much lime raise my PH....So I added just a bit...

Ppl are out there hating on Fox Farm Ocean Forest for whatever reason...saying it's ph is unstable and blablablaaaaa....
I test the PH of the bag I just bought at 6.5 outta the bag. That's WEED HEAVEN....Fuck are they going off on? Saying it's not organic and it's shit blablaba.....
My plants disagree haha!

But yeah that at lot of lime bro! 22 tbsps per bag! thats 66 teaspoons haha! Just seems like a lot!
Less is always better than more, becuase you can always add to ya know..

I'm gonan start a nice thread here soon and post everything I know there....hopefully it'll catch on and we can get some more learning done :joint:
