A good soil mix would kill EVERY head from start to finish bro
Not sure what you mean by that... if you are saying a good soil mix would relieve me from having to feed at all, I agree, and I may try a true soil mix eventually, but the inbetween shit of using a soilless mix and adding extra worm castings really didn't do me any favors.

I WOULD like to try subcool's mix, I just haven't had the means to mix up a batch yet. And even then, I'm a little nervous since each plant seems to have different nutrient requirements. I'd hate to over-feed in a soil mix and be able to do nothing about it, for instance.

I dunno, I'm not AGAINST soil mixes, but the middle zone of adding some extra soil nutes and then also trying to maintain a balanced feed regimen feels really hard for me. I'm either going to go all the way in one direction or the other after my rasp. cough run, I think... so that means either trying a full soil mix with everything added, or setting up DWC or another hydro setup so I can feed ONLY with water.

All I do is water every days...this becuase my soil has all the food within. My plants are constantly supplied with nutrition...
they get what they need from the soil mix when they need it.

There's no feeding schedule with organics..you water than plants only...I use ACTs which are like homemade organic bottled nutes...I make them from water and what extra amendments I have, so I supplement my plants with nutrition an no extra cost other than what I invested initially in,y soil mix....and these amendments will last me a couple grows...

theres no over feeding if you take ur time with the mix. Let your soil cycle a month before u use it, and you'll never Get burn..
just very happy plants...

click my sig bro.def.not bragging, just showing u some current results of a water only soil mix

Yeah, that's what i need to do is get a mix made up and let it sit, I haven't found the right timing for that yet. I have to wait til spring to get most of the ingredients around here. So I'll probably start a mix in the spring and let it set for at least a month then give it a try.

Hm. Well, I am considering mail ordering some amending ingredients and working with the mix I already have for this next grow, but I'd have to transplant into an intermediary container in the mean time as I don't wanna let those seedlings go another 3-4 weeks in those solo cups.

So, why do you have to supplement with ACTs if the soil has what they need? That's a little confusing to me.

I could probably get away with two more weeks in solo cups... if I 2-day shipped amending ingredients, do you think a two week set would be enough? Maybe if I kept it warmed by a space heater?

I admit i am tempted to jump right to trying a full soil mix before I abandon ship to hydro. And I would rather do it now than the next run.

P.S. I checked out your grow, they look really healthy, but I didn't see any flowering pics yet. My plants did great up until like the second week of flowering, then it started to degrade fast... I'd love to see what the results are at the end, if you have a link specifically to that.

If you'd like to walk me through what I'd need to add to my mix to get a balanced feed, I may very well give it a shot. As I said my mix is currently 5:3:2 Peat, Perlite, Worm Castings. Plus 2 TBSP Dolomitic lime per gal. What would you add to that base to fully amend for a full cycle?

The main thing that has kept me from embracing a fully-amended soil mix is my overall ignorance, haha. I do my best to learn as I go, but I didn't get that far along yet... i'm still barely understanding being able ot read the plants to get an idea what they need... but it would be nice if I could bypass the bulk of such situations by amending soil.

But I honestly probably won't pursue it unless I have an experienced mixer holding my hand at this point. If you're up to the task of helping, I'd love to hear what you recommend... otherwise i'll probably end up using my EJ again...

Because you can ALWAYS add more life to the soil ecosystem.
You use the teas to admire bacteria and fungi to your soil.
bacterica and fungi trap nutes for plant use...so the more abundant they are in your soil, the richer the soil.

u brew acts to multiply these bacteria and fungi in water before you pour them over your soil.
bacteria trap nutes for use and so do fungi, but fungi are long and chain together, so the fungi carries nutes from point a to point b on the rootball when point a and b could be on opposite sides ya know...bacteria don't chain together so they nutes stay wherever the bacteria are...they don't travel like they do In fungi..

but the teas multiply bacteria and fungi in exponential numbers...the don't reproduce the same way in the soil alone....

kinda get it?

get TEAMING WITH MICROBES. If your net savvy you can download it. It just breaks it all down to simple reading...the soil ecosystem that is.

but more microbes...more available nutes to the plants.
they handle the ph as well...so the meter don't move!

Check it..,your peat lowers the ph..your lime brings it up so you need some of both...that's just an example of how those two things work in the soil...
dont rush it tho bro..

can you get your hands on teaming with microbes?! Reading thru that will bring u up to speed in no time lad.
you've got my word on that one

Haha... well I'll look for the mentioned literature. And maybe I'll be ready to do it next run then. It sounds like I won't have the time to get the learning under my belt and get a proper mix made before these seedlings need a new home tho.

Thanks for the info...

Just ordered myself a Hakko 454 soldering iron... gonna be smokin' in style soon. ;) Primarily got it to use with my new concentrate bowl... but it'll be sweet for just lighting bong hits and shit too.

Uhoh... I'm reading about Green Crack... flowers in 50 days flat and is a sativa-side high... uhhhh... shit, I am going to buy more seeds! Quick someone stop me before my credit cards are all maxed out! LOL.

Seriously, I want to grow this shit. I might split up my plans. Instead of doing the three raspberry coughs in the big setup, I'm considering doing them with shorter veg time under one light fixture, with less colas. Maybe just a single top on each one, (clone the tops) so hopefully 4 colas per plant... thinking 3 plants, 4-6 main colas each plant, under one 4-bulb fixture. Hmmmm. 3 plants fits real comfortably under 4 bulbs in my current setup. I'd imagine it could only go better if I mainlined all three and stuck to a smaller number of tops...

Then I could run some green crack seeds separately as well. Shit looks fucking tasty and the price is totally decent. And I can't get over how short the flowering time is for a sativa-leaning strain.

I've grown it before it's nothing to write home about, if it was me I'd get my hands on some F2 or F4 grimm brothers c99, or even the female seed c99. That is a true amazing plant.

Thank you, my bank account thanks you, LOL.

What is the flowering time like on those? The thing that appealed to me the most about GC was the short flowering time for a sativa-dominant high.

Alright Giggles, I couldn't resist, so I ordered those C99 fems instead. Haha. I was itching to spend it anyway I guess. I liked the recommendation, so I went with it!

Trust me you are going to love them ;)
I've always heard good things about C99 so it seemed like a good choice! I didn't realize it had such a short flowering time or I probably would have been all over it sooner. :0]

Now I got some brain storming to do about how I wanna lay things out between the three light fixtures I have available. :0]

That's all the fun in this hobby, all the brain storming you get to do.

Ya they have a very short flower period, it's a really great strain.

Right? Seriously! I can just get high and sit and stare at my closet for hours, hahaha. And that's not even counting when there's plants in there... then I could stare all day, haha.
