Brewer7's Chill-OM Perlite Hempy Grow

They are doing well under the HPS and are stretching. They've probably grown 4-5 inches since I flipped to 12/12, but the side branching is filling in and growing quickly too. Especially at the bottom of the plant.

The one at the top left is the confirmed female. It's one of the tallest and has a nice thick stalk and narrow leaves. The others are being coy and aren't completely showing their intentions. I thought the one in the lower left with the fat leaves was almost positively male, but now I'm not so sure. I started feeding it straight well water to see how it would handle it since I was pretty sure that it would turn out male, and it seems to be loving it. Mandala was right, this is a light feeder. I think I could back off the nutes a bit on this strain, but I want to see how the 1/2tsp Jacks Hydro and Cal Nit works out through the grow on them. I'm hoping that at least one more will turn out female as that will produce enough herb to last me for a while.

I think I screwed up my Female Seeds c99. The rock wool dried out a lot quicker than I imagined it would and there are no signs of life there. I may have to drop another one or two to get a mother plant going. I'm also waffling and may take a clone of the confirmed female. It's such a vigorous plant that it may end up being a keeper if the smoke is good.

Very nice. Do you have a couple different phenos there?
Yes, it appears that there are three different phenos out of the four plants. The identified female is the tallest of the group and has a sugary sweet citrus smell when I rub the stem. It's a lot like grapefruit. The fattest leaf pheno has really dark rounded leaves that are darker than the other three. It smells more skunky. The other two seem to be the same phenos as each other. Their smell is like a combination of the two, kind of like a sweet skunk smell and their side branching was wider at first, but the others seem to be catching up.

Thanks man! I found some good stuff this morning. 1st, the Female Seeds c99 seed that I thought wasn't going to germ popped up this morning and is looking like a healthy seedling. And 2nd, I got another confirmed female Chill-Om!

Like looking under the tree on Christmas morning! Sweet!

This morning I was finally confident enough on the sex of the remaining two to pull the plug. Males. They get chopped this afternoon.

So, from the 5 Chill-OM seeds that were dropped into rockwool.

All 5 germinated
1 gave problems early and was culled (probably my fault with low temps)
2 females
2 males

I took a cutting of the most vigorous one the other day and if the smoke is good, I'll regrow a batch of them at some point. I waffled back and forth on keeping a mother of this strain since I still have seeds, but there is definitely some phenotype variation on Chill-OM and I'm happy with how it's growing so far. It has keeper potential. The smoke will be the major deciding factor of course.

:peace:

Edit: A few post chop observations to add to the journal... One of the males was the shortest plant by a few inches and one was the most indica like.

The short male looked almost exactly like one of the females (the shorter of the two). It had a sweet citrus smell when chopped with a slight skunky undertone. The root system was large and it had taken up a good portion of the 3 gallon bucket.

The Indica pheno had incredibly dark green leaves and a massive stalk. It was a light feeder. When I yanked it, the root system was about half to 3/4 the size of the other male. It would have been interesting to taste the difference in smoke from that pheno. It smelled straight skunky when chopped.

Two ladies is not bad at all, congrats. Did you take your cutting before or after the flip?
I took the cut about 4 or 5 days after the flip. I have my c99 seedling growing right now and the Chill-Om cutting that will be used for mother plants for the next grow and possibly beyond. :-P

I've got a couple of Christmas trees going now. Not much new to report. A lot of stretching and more pistil growth. I have to raise the cool tube every morning. It didn't look like I moved it up enough today as the top on the taller of the two (the back one) started to bend away from the light at the end of the day. The shorter one's bucket is raised up about 4" to even the canopy more. They are still very easy going plants requiring nothing extra. They are on the same feeding regimen.

It's been 50 days since I dropped the seeds into rock wool and 13 days since flipping to 12/12. Mandala says that the tallest pheno should grow to around 5 feet and I don't doubt it will reach that at this point.

While shuffling their position in the grow room, I took the tall one out and snapped a picture. It's difficult to see the growth pattern with the top down photos I've been doing.

Three weeks into flower and these bitches are stretching. The tallest one is about four feet tall now and the short one is about 10" less. No change in the nute regimen and all is going well. Lots of visible buds now. :)

I'm having a hard time taking pics of these now since the room is so small and the plants are getting bigger.

Here are a couple of pics.

I hope they stop stretching soon as I only have about another 1.5 feet before I have to start bending the tall one. According to Mandala, the tallest it should get is about another foot so I think there won't be any problems. My diy carbon filter seems to be working well as I can't smell them outside of the grow room yet.
