This morning I was finally confident enough on the sex of the remaining two to pull the plug. Males. They get chopped this afternoon.
So, from the 5 Chill-OM seeds that were dropped into rockwool.
All 5 germinated
1 gave problems early and was culled (probably my fault with low temps)
2 females
2 males
I took a cutting of the most vigorous one the other day and if the smoke is good, I'll regrow a batch of them at some point. I waffled back and forth on keeping a mother of this strain since I still have seeds, but there is definitely some phenotype variation on Chill-OM and I'm happy with how it's growing so far. It has keeper potential. The smoke will be the major deciding factor of course.
Edit: A few post chop observations to add to the journal... One of the males was the shortest plant by a few inches and one was the most indica like.
The short male looked almost exactly like one of the females (the shorter of the two). It had a sweet citrus smell when chopped with a slight skunky undertone. The root system was large and it had taken up a good portion of the 3 gallon bucket.
The Indica pheno had incredibly dark green leaves and a massive stalk. It was a light feeder. When I yanked it, the root system was about half to 3/4 the size of the other male. It would have been interesting to taste the difference in smoke from that pheno. It smelled straight skunky when chopped.
