Fertilizers .. recommendations?

i have a bag of Andersons 19-19-19 that i took from my dad .. we spread it on the fields at our farm .. and i was wondering how much to use of it or if it is too much? .. i was gonna use that to veg with and get a different fert when it starts to flower.. ANY advice will be greatly appreciated

Is it a time released fert? Just read the label for how much to use and do about 1/4th of that to see how your plant takes it.

19-19-19 is ok for veggings, but its not the best just because its so balanced. While veggings your plants are going to need for nitrogen then potash or phos, so something like 12-7-7 (foxfarm growbig) would work much better.

However if that is all you have it will work fine, just make sure you use a light dosage so you dont burn your plants. Also if it is time released be careful because you dont want those chemicals in your plant when you harvest.

thanks im growing outside and i could easily get some different kinds.. i just wish people would stop recommending fox farms cause it isnt available where i live lol .. so ur saying a little less harsh .. he also has some 10-20-20 .. would that be good for flowering?

10-20-20 would be good for flow. low nitrogen high potash... phosphoric acid (middle number) is good for roots so it can be used all the way through.. but veg is when you need the N and flow is when you need the K

thought u needed a good amount of K throughout , higher N to veg then lower while flowering, then high potash in flowering but a little lower in veg .. correct?

i know they have some stuff at wal.mart.. miracle grow ultra bloom slow release tablets... its pretty hard to go overboard with that stuff so you dont need to worry about burning. it is 10-16-10 i believe,, the only thing with that is they are coated with sulfur for the slow release effect.. i talked to a guy at a grow shop about the effects of the sulfur and the only thing he knew was that it is good for keeping pests away

i believe its also a more basic element (higher pH) so just watch your shit.. dont let the pH in your soil rise above 7

I think there called "Litmus" strips, not sure if i spelled it right but i think its pronounced that way. I have personally found that even the larger chain stores are considering carrying more organic stuff lately, so even if you cant get fox farm, you can get various bat & bird guanos, earthworm castings etc. so you can still get some good organic shit without mail order, google hydroponics for your city/county/state if desperate you should be able to find a shop or 2 within "reasonable" distance, make a list get it all at once and then you don't have to go back for awhile.

thats the word .. password .. mind was blank ... I am gonna hit up my local ace hardware and then lowes to try to find the best shit they have .. and i have a list of stuff i would be looking for (thanks for idea tho) then i will have to prep holes with my stuff and then let my plants grow a little bit before i transplant them in the ground .. but once again thanks for hints

i have heard the electronic soil ph testers are junk and a pain in the ass anyway.. any grow shop ive been to has recomened litmus paper for easy soil testing... when you do need to check it (you wont need to for a while untill you start nuting anyway) just flood the plant until water comes out the drain holes (dont get too crazy with the water though) and test it with the paper.. from what ive been told this is the easiest, cheapest and effective way to test your soil...... i wouldnt suggest drowning your plant to get water to come out the drains.. water it heavily and wait a bit.. if nothing comes out give it more water,,, and wait.. and continue this process untill you get some water coming out the bottom... you dont need much remember

yeah i know about testing the soil pH thanks for the refresher course tho .. FFA helped me out there so did science ha .. but yeah i found out my 'creek' i was relying on for water isnt a great source due to its weak stream (haha) and i tried making a dam in it to easily collect water but it looks like im gonna have to be hauling water up a steep hill or following the creek bed in the woods .. anyway that will be a good workout .. and thanks again for the pointers
