Here's my thought on em.

the anti dust / self cleaning coating is kind lame.
I install and repair windows an doors with those coatings.
its not self cleaning, hard water will still stain em after time..
It also makes the glass cost about double and is a gimmick.

the internal reflector coating is actually a diffuser/ scatterer.
If rather have half the bulb mirror plated for reflection .

There is a rummor that jap phosphors are the best?
But I don't know much about phosphor quality.....

Your experience as a window installer of these products gives you a pretty good read on how these claims are somewhat, shall we say, 'inflated'.

Nano coating is a cheap way of giving diffusive reflectance. In every case I've tested nano type finishes I found that their superiority claims are driven by the lower costs to apply this coating than that of highly reflective specular material which consistently outperformed the nano finishes in radiant flux comparisons for grow light applications. Also with EFDL you also have the opposing lamps running parallel to each other to contend with which is a LOT of surface area facing each other where you want to get the light moving towards the canopy. NanoTech finishes are usually applied to the inside housing geometry to reduce the cost of secondary reflective materials. I personally have never seen a housing design incorporate a reflector design as a single entity that would compete with a separate housing/reflector design. They have entirely different functions and should, IMO, be treated that way.

As to phosphors I will point you to The Phosphor Handbook for anything you ever wanted to know about this black art. I advise that before you buy this book though you brush up on your chemistry or you'll be lost by the second page.

Thanks, Stupid me. I know the strain, have even had some way over here. It looked like there was a light with that name the way I was reading the grow journals. No wonder every google search led me back to rollitip. LOL Flourogrow makes a 600watt induction light & I keep hearing about 800 watt lights, but can't get a name. Skunk had an article this month on induction lighting, talking about a 600w but of course didn't give any names, just saying to read up on them first. ??&^*%$##^&?? Just make sure you buy one with the glass cover. The flourogrow doesn't have a glass cover. I'm trying to get away from my 6-600w HPS (bloom room)& 2-400w (veg room) each room has a a/c unit, the bloom also has a de-humidifier, co2 6" squirrel fan (both rooms) assorted fans, etc. & is still warm. Kauai has the highest electric rates in the country. The whole island is powered by diesel generators & now they are installing smart meters too. I've been fighting the smart meters but it is just a matter of time. I had to tear everything down recently & just thought I would make a bad situation better by going modern & trying to lose the heat by going LED or something else. Even LED, no one gives names . I am looking at units in China now to cut costs over the $1,800.00 8-900w LED units but sending a couple grand to a company in China is scary as hell. Besides, what if there are problems? I don't even know if they work well. If I could just get someone to say Yeah, I have been using this unit_______________(Name of unit here) & it works great, here's where you get them, I would feel alright about it. I am running out of time as my keiki's are growing up quickly under the t-5's. Hell, I might just keep using the t-5's to veg from now on. LOLThats a little less heat & wattage, but slow. If anyone has real info about a great lighting system to replace my tried & true heat monsters, I would sure appreciate it. But please, give me a name. I just hate replacing my 600w HPS with 400w units, no matter what type. LED, Plasma, induction. Jeez. This is making me dizzy & I'm more lost & confused now than ever. Maybe I should stop smoking the Ghost Train Haze while doing my DD. Oh well, Thanks

^you do not have to go watt per watt to get the same output as HID with EFDL or LED that is one of the benefits. If you are looking for a testimonial saying these lamps are the best thing since sliced bread I guess as good as I can do is say they grow a plant for me... I have only ever used LED and just switched to a Inda gro 420 pro recently. The growth has been pretty consistent and no stretching, just ordered a pontoon to add to the footprint of my light for flower, supposed to get here tomorrow actually... Here are some pics of my girls, and this by no means is my best grow because I had some problems at the beginning but now we are cooking with fire...

The problem I had early on was that I kept my LED panel to close because the fricking thing runs so cool and they were getting burned from too much PAR. So then I was weary about their feeding schedule and faced some deficiencies, but now all seems to be well and they have been put to flower this last week. I will say my led's kept the nodes a lil tighter but this can make for problems when you go to train and top and your plant is compact as hell...

Hiya Natro! Your gurlz are looking good and healthy. When you flip I think you'll like your setup with the pontoon. There isn't much on their site other than the photo gallery images and notes on their site that go into much detail on the pontoons so me getting to see actual results is appreciated.
 
Howzit Natro, they sure look healthy, thats for sure. I was hoping to cover a 4-5ft by 8ft. room with 2-3 lights & get the output equal to a 1000w HPS. This is all new to me. Are you happy with the inda gro so far versus the led's you were using? Mind if I ask what watts the LED's were? I was seriously thinking the new 900w led's with the 3 or 5w new type bulbs until I ran across the induction article. I am just worried about light penetration so I can grow less larger plants than I used to in the room. I guess I am trying not to make a mistake. I would like my light changeover to be a one time deal. The Flourogrow 600w I was looking at had a 5000 k? bulb. I asked them if I could get a 2700k & they said the best they could do is a 3500k & it would take 2 months to get it. But since, I see most come with a 5000k & that will bloom just fine. I will be using my lights mainly for flowering & will be growing all organic in soil. I made the switch to soil a couple years ago & seem to have it dialed. That will probably change some learning the new lights. I used to do a lot of aero but on Kauai they havetoo many power outages. One good outage can take down your aeroponic crop. I asked a friend about his 2 420 indagrows vs his 600 hps

"Whats up scar, i have 2 par 420's running now. Theyre close to the yield of a 600 hps. Takes a lil to dial em in. There alot less heat from em, but still a lil bit. Im looking at diy luxim lep kits. Have a couple gavitas on the way, the 300's, will check em out. As for added red i used some california lightwork bloom boost 100w leds. Crops under the inductions have much better structure and overall growth, but your plant will take around 10-14 days longer to finish. I now use my inductions over my veg and mom tables, have 4 total. Also, check ebay for par 420's, theyre on there frequently and youll want a warranty, gone through 3 power supplys on one 420, but daryl at inda gro will have a new one to ya in a day or 2. The last time he sent a whole new light cause the one appeared to be a "lemon" and was having non typical results. They work fine in flower, but the improved vegetive structure makes em ideal for the veg and mom area, also your clones will root in 3 days under em."

"Ralph we did a side by side with same strains, before we invested any further money. We now add LED to them as well. The reason I say a smackdown is because with RP Kosher Kush in the 6x6 eight plant room that was induction only outperformed the HID only and HID/Induction combined rooms. This was done in 5gal geopots with promix. They worked so good for us we redid everything in every room with them. Boone from growlightexpress kept mentioning over the phone he had feedback of strain dependent results.(sativas vs indicas) I personally have yet to see this, maybe your feedback is similar to this. We had complete opposite results than you with our induction only where the Kosher from that room doubled the HID, lol. We are easily achieving on average well over a gram a watt getting into 700s. The grape stompers lived up to its yield standards with even higher numbers well. Strange for you to have a different result than most Ive spoken with. I wonder what is different. Im a little bit confused as to your posted set up. You have a 200w 650nm only led lamp? Did you make it? And you have two 420pars over a 4x6 table with these? Is this a different set up than previous? If you are not beating one 600 with two 420s there has got to be something broken.(just a theory) I mean I now see two 420s laughing at what we previously did with 1000s with repeated stuff we always run. The led we added were 180w 357 Magnums. The reason was these specific lamps was their spectrum breakdown. There is noway I would have posted the word smackdown unless that is what I saw. Ralph if want, shoot me a PM lets compare tighter notes. Maybe there's someway I can help fill in the blanks."

I was running a 200 w full spectrum panel that I picked up a long time ago, has equal amounts of blue, red and some far red, all controlled by lil push buttons on the top to turn the spectrums on and off. I am not sure of the actual draw of the panel but I have been meaning to get a power draw meter or whatever you call them from menards just have not yet... 3 inda's would have you covered.
I have not experienced anything regarding breakdown or warranty yet, only had it lil more than a month, but their warranty is 10 YEARS. That really sold me on them not so much the light coverage, although it does fine in this dept, but like most companies inda gro's light footprint is a lil larger than what I would try and get results with in flower. That coverage may work in veg when they do not need as intense of light but in flower when you have it 12" from the top instead of 20" like in veg (what I have heard people use for measurements, I am still rocking about 20in. away) then you will obviously have a reduced foot print.
In that setup I would just do 3 indagros, maybe swap one of the inda's for a led panel of your liking like cali light works but this will be more expensive to cover the same area with led than induction if you ask me... I am in the same situation of I want to move that inda I have into my 4x6 silver edition hut I want to run for flower, I have some LED panels I still own that will go in there so idk if another inda is entirely necessary so I am thinking about getting another LED panel like Area 51 or cali light works but they are almost the same cost as an Inda and I have had great customer service on my two orders so far that I am liable to go back for the 3rd just because they make it that painless and in the lifespan of that light I will have to buy atleast another led panel of the same make...

i mean no disrespect at all, but i must ask... why are you living so close to the equator, and growing herb with light bulbs? in an area with "the highest electric rates in the country", no less? i know a few growers up here in Oregon that moved here from the Islands... they all tell me about how they grew outside and "brought the plants in at night"... so whats up with your difference of approach?

if i were you, i'd check out these Grobots. or, if ya still gotta light up a bulb down there... why not look at the Inda-Gro Daylight Harvesters? auto-dimming 420PARs for greenhouse operation... :hump:

Wow spliff man I am so glad you just posted that link, I did not know they detached the power supply!! I had just said something of this tune to chaz in another thread. I did not see anything on inda-gro's site about that option so I never asked.... maybe I missed it but I def want that cuz if I get the power supply out of the same tent as the light I could turn my booster fan on my exhaust down a notch... $175 to get that bad boy practically out of my house, would not be necessary for obvious reasons just saying 20 feets a lot of room, and I have always found when I go a size down when I have the option and money I regret it, so 20 feet it is. Kinda surprised you did not go for this option with your movers and all, maybe you did and I did not notice... Just thought might make unit a teency bit lighter, making the motor on your mover a lil less stressed.

Ya im not really gonna jump on that ship quite yet bout the remote part but it does not really bemefit my situation for the added cost... but you can bet when i buy my next fixture it will have a detachable power supply

I bet it would be safe to remote mount the others.

Ill ask tony Wu how far he recomends remote mounting 400w lights.

There is somthing to to his light.
I like my induction light quite abit more than my 150w Hps an 145 w cmh combo.
When I installed my CMH the color was yellow/white but nothing magic happened in the cab.
I had better runs with hps & MH.
Plants grow better under riants edfl for me already.
It was amazing how it brought the Nh21xMM almost pure sativas back to life.
ill have to get pics up here to show y'all.


Replacing my 2 15yr old 175w ballasts ,150w Hortilux blue hps conversion bulb, and Philips all start 145w cmh set up new again to reinvigorate the cab would prolly have cost about the 450$ I paid for the 400w induction.


But the real reason I had to change from Hid is heat and bulbs that last a year.
Going with a bigger HID and more heat was out of the question even its is cheeper up front.
They made my cab a scorcher even when sealing em with glass an venting the heat.
And I'm moving back to colorado and my wife refuses to let any light indoors that runs hot enuff to start a fire in an accident.


I agree on the prices of Induction lights.
Its disgracefully high, so ill use china direct ones.
Ill be a guenie pig a test em to save myself 400$
350$ (shipping included) for a riant 400w ballast an bulb kit is the cheepest I can find.
Hopefully competition from china will bring the prices down here.
