How Did Everyone Take-Up Growing?

I've been meaning to start this thread for months. For me, it was got tired of paying for other grower's mistakes...literally. We have all been there at some point, having to purchase buds. What began as a hobby eventually became more of a career after the construction industry went belly-up. Growing is not for everyone, I happen to be an only child so long hours spent avoiding people comes naturally. Now everyone wants to know me, while part of my job is to make sure nobody knows me. My products make people happy, yet I cannot partake in the fruits of my labor with other people. I have to come here to discuss these things b/c I know there are a number of you out there in the same boat. Everyone wants to know a grower, yet we can be known by nobody...a frustrating dilemma at times.

Hell, I can't even bring a date back to my own house...

I know how you feel bro, I come to riu to escape. You all are my family and I wish I could connect with quite a few of them :D

Oh and I took it up because I was tired of the shitty product and the high prices it took to get my medication. I wish that I could share my hobby with others but the situation I am in doesn't allow me to do that. Maybe someday we can all live in freedom.

Moved out of the folks' house in 1969. Lots of cheap fluorescent lights, bag seeds, big plants, no buds. But, a start.

i was building a cabinet to hold our camping equipment and the wife suggested i make some space to grow a plant in there.

i warned her against it, but she told me to do it.

and now it has basically taken over the house.

I'm working on that, a sailboat actually after I sell this house. Then I can find a cannabis friendly island somewhere, where naked native virgins will do my pruning...lol's. Back to reality, I find it amusing that seeded brick Mexican shwag is still being readily sold in this area for $10/gram. Thank God I don't have to smoke it ever again. What happened to Mexico I have no idea, farmers down there used to produce some top shelf strains back in the 80's...now it's all crap.

I've been around it so long I thought that I might as well grow it, not to mention it seems to be a more enjoyable buzz when you grow it yourself....

Hubby and I both suffer from spinal injuries.. and (unbeknownst to me) My DAD was growing back in 2004 for someone and brought us a tray of strawberry plants for our garden with 3 little "extra plants' in it (so my Mom wouldn't know-- she'd FREAK... very anti-pot!) And he gave us a vial of seeds to boot!
We grew those 3 in the closet under CFL's and the seeds out back in a makeshift greenhouse... and have been at it since!

Dad is 78 now, and we grow for HIM, since, even though they aren't married anymore, and do not live together (2 separate sides of a duplex) My parents do everything together short of LIVING together (She'd give Dad a stroke I think) so he can't grow without her finding out.. besides- it's less risky for us. We're LEGAL and RURAL... !

Bag seeds and a here well-known Dutch reggae-ish song called Nederwiet by Doe Maar (is like an outdoor growing manual).

I tried a few times in my youth to grow, but had no knowledge of indoor horticulture nor marijuana horticulture. I did a lot of dumb shit like trying to grow under incandescent bulbs and all that before I decided that I had no idea what I was doing and that growing weed was impossible. I didn't know anyone who had grown, or at least anyone that would admit to it. Fast Forward a few years, during a baked conversation about wanting to grow some herb, my buddy tells me he's done it before and he would help me get started. He did exactly that. Fast forward again to current date I have a number of harvests under my belt, and have updated my equipment significantly, and life (at least growing life) is good! I hope someday I get the opportunity to have a young apprentice like my friend had in me. Growing is a daunting task for someone who is totally new and without the help of my friend, I probably never would have gotten involved in such a rewarding hobby.

Great thread, looking forward to reading other's responses.

I just had an apprentice, and his lack of commitment is the reason he is no longer an apprentice. If you ever decide to go that route, I would recommend a single guy or girl without complications of children.

i had a good job and could afford all the bud i wanted but dealers are a bunch of idiots. they're sloppy, too expensive, shady, hard to get to, and they never know what they're talking about. meeting in parking lots or apartments with parades of traffic so i could buy their "dro" and then drive around with it got old. getting different grades of shit for the same money got old.

i decided to take all the money i was making and get that shit myself and it turned into an addictive hobby.
