How Did Everyone Take-Up Growing?

I was in a band in the mid 60's and drugs were always around. I found that weed was the only "drug" you didn't have to "pay" for the next morning except for an extra bit of slime in your throat. Long story in between then and now... since I started growing medically in 2006 the rest is history...thanks to RIU and Jorge. I too smoke alone due to state "rules" but it beats not smoking at all. Actually sometimes I think these plants are controling us, always trying to convince us to grow more and bigger and prettier, etc. Maybe the damn stuff came from space or something. lol

I've been meaning to start this thread for months. For me, it was got tired of paying for other grower's mistakes...literally. We have all been there at some point, having to purchase buds. What began as a hobby eventually became more of a career after the construction industry went belly-up. Growing is not for everyone, I happen to be an only child so long hours spent avoiding people comes naturally. Now everyone wants to know me, while part of my job is to make sure nobody knows me. My products make people happy, yet I cannot partake in the fruits of my labor with other people. I have to come here to discuss these things b/c I know there are a number of you out there in the same boat. Everyone wants to know a grower, yet we can be known by nobody...a frustrating dilemma at times.

Hell, I can't even bring a date back to my own house...

I couldnt Medicate properly till I started growing my own.
If I bought off the street I was just getting loaded didn't know indica or sativa so how can 1 properly medicate that way?
And going to a Dispensery is a ripoff charging what they charge.
Now I grow and have my own group, just waiting till I can open the first coffee shop in California when the time is right.

I dont really know. I was in Toronto & this bar we stopped at sold pot seeds. Bought a 5 pack of White Widow, gave them to a firend who has a farm & he grew them out for me giving me half. I got about a pound off him (which was NOT half from 5 plants grown outdoors btw) Anyways, I thought I'd give it a try.

Ordered seeds from Nirviana & slowly started growing. First grow was a waste of 6 months, but learned a LOT & now I have a setup that's perfect for me & my needs.

Honestly. Because I wanted to try something new. Right before I started growing I was into making candles and lotions. Before that, I was into mountain biking and shooting guns. Before that, I was into developing web apps. However, pot has been in my life since I was 15... and I don't see it going away anytime soon.

Finding anyone that sells around here anymore is hard when you're like me (anti-social and shit) and it's even harder to find someone who's reliable like I need. That and saving money, getting better stuff, getting strains suited to my personal needs, and so on. pretty much all the usual reasons except money. I never want to make money off of this, I just personally think if we treated cannabis more like tomatoes we'd all be better off. "Hey, Ed, man I grew way too much White Widow this season, you want a few buds?" LOL, ya'll know what I'm saying.

Played around with some seeds when I was younger, got interested in the plant, and of course I smoke weed and having to buy it sucks for alot of reasons, like if you have to go and get it, how much you have to pay for it and who knows what your getting, unless you got it good you know some good dealers, but still growing is fun and rewarding.

Tired of spending 300$ a month on bud to help my stomach and for.recreational...so my gf got 10 bag seed from my buddy and she told me i could grow i started in an end table then in a cabinet not in a 5x5x6.5 tent with a 1k light all new gear and gonna try to.get another tent i.started growing in.november

i used to occasionally read a magazine/comic called viz, which had advertisements for a company called sunlight systems in the early 1990s
the advert was a cartoon style picture of a rasta man with a big smile on his face looking pleased with his cartoon plants and hydro setup

i wasn't sure if the advert was a scam or not , as growing weed indoor under lights in the uk was not common then almost unheard of
after about a year of first seeing the advert and having a little bit of spare cash at the time i decided to visit the sunlight systems hydro shop in stratford
i bought an eeb flood n drain setup a 400w mh and 10 skunk#1 and 10 superskunk seeds
at this stage i was still not sure weather what i had bought was a scam or not the seeds were all sold as dutch fishing bait, old sensiseed stock
i wanted it to work so much i decided to invest my faith in it i guess, i had never grown plants before of any kind in soil let alone hydro

i muddled my way through the first few grows , lots of spider mites temps over 90 and humidity who knows but i remember it feeling like a sauna , but the finished product was good enough to make me continue
i went back to the hydro shop bought a 400w hps and some northern lights seeds and a NFT set up
the northern lights grew perfectly in both systems, northern lights back then was a life saver and inspired me to continue

I got into it when a family member of a friend tried to grow a few plants. Shortly after they had to relocate to a different state and asked my friend who was also my roommate if we wanted the plants because they didn't want to travel with them. So we took them and set up a small grow area. The plants were so far gone when we got them that they didn't make it. I just got hooked in from that moment on. Now I enjoy growing more than I do smoking.
