Check your R/O Lately?

I've recently been given an R/O unit(christmas)and decided to give it a honest effort just to see what it will actually do for my yeild and quality. After about 2 mnth I noticed that it was taking longer and longer to fill my res. It got to the point where the 100gal/day was not keeping up, must have been plugged, so I went out and bought new filters. Once again less than a month later same thing.

After 3 1/2 months of use and stressing if Im gonna have enough water tommorrow I decided to give it one more chance. I decided to test the unit, its states a 3:1 ratio, 3 being waste water and 1 being R/O

Thats a lot a water just going down the drain. I put a 5 gallon bucket under the run off and a litre container as my res and ren the R/O, guess what? it wasn't 3:1 it was 9:1! No thats not a typo! I tested it a few times and it is correct.

I cycled 2 trays with 6 different strains though start to finish with R/O and there was absolutly no difference in flavor or yeild when comparing to my tap water. I have since gone back to tap water.

My girls are happy, I'm happy and I'm sure mother nature appreciates it also.

Check the status of yours and see what its doing, personally I see no need for them if you have drinkable tap water. Everyones water is different but generally if its drinkable its growable.

Unless you have real issues with your water use an R/O, if its decent tap water you will be only pouring money down the drain.

By the way my tap water is running 7.8 Ph, and 330 PPM.

Don't waste your time and money if you don't have too.

what you fail to understand is that r/o gives you close to 0 ppm's, that is 330 ppm's I can add in nutes, not crap like fluoride and chlorine that the city puts in there. So when I add 800 ppms, it's not 480 in nutes and 330 from tap.
If you really grew, you would know this.

I really, really grow and i use tap water only. No need to be so closed minded. An old saying goes, with a closed mind should come a closed mouth. I agree completely with the op, what a waste of time, money, and natural resources. These are weeds, they grow rather easily.

As a multi-decade RO owner (several actually) 3:1 is an exaggerated ratio, based on higher inline water pressure than most homes have. My home has great pressure. My tap water is only 180ppm: my RO membrane is 3+ yo, yet product water is < 20ppm.

The lower the pressure, the higher the product water ppm.

Search for Booster pumps not expensive, will put water pressure in the best efficiency/quality range

I really, really Think I grow and i use tap water only. That makes me an expert on water and water quality and r/o units. No need to be so closed minded. An old saying goes, when someone is butthurt they will try and brownnose the op. I agree completely with the op, what a waste of time, money, and natural resources. if you had hard water like I do, you would understand there is a use for them. so I think maybe you should STFU

Your 800ppm is my 1130ppm, its quite easy to comprehend...really...if you actually grew that is. The crap you speak of doesn't seem to make a difference in quality and quantity so obviously my girls don't mind.

So narrow minded.

Like I SAID if your water warrants the use of one then YES by all means use one, but for my situation it make squat of a difference so it a total waste all the way around. Kinda like having a conversation with you.

All Im trying to bring to light here is these R/O's, Good or bad, waste a lot, A LOT of water. Check your own system and see how your is working, my decision is based on my experience in my room what you do with the info is up to you.

actually just checked mine, It was not producing very much, but I know it was because the pressure had been reduced from a calcium build up, so I just ran the piercing valve back in and she started working great again, But, i don't really grow, so I guess i was just dreaming. Kinda like you when you thought your bud was good.

There is much more to why RO (pure water ~ 10ppm) makes sense for all hydro mmj growers. There are a number of elements that make up tap water ppm, not just CaMg, and in what ratios... and what quality?????????????????????? I want the best CaMg, which I doubt they care about, so for them the cheapest is just fine

MMJ is expensive, even to grow, so everything I do has an eye on maximum efficiency and benefit which equals better quality = highest prices, not that I grow to sell.

Nope...You guys are all correct (sept Chucky of course!) and if you feel that your system and water source warrant using an R/O by all means, it definetly won't hurt anything. What I found out about my system and water source is that my tap water is good enough to use as is, running an R/O in my case only increases my work load and waste a bunch of water.

I do believe that R/O's are very valuable, only if the situation dictates.

Thats not the case in my room.

LOL ignorant twat, people like you are the reason the world in general sucks. Go be a bad troll somewhere else.

Anyways. I've been using strictly tap for about two years with great results. Mostly because, as OP said, my situation permits. I bubble my water for 24 hours before using also. Tap runs out around 6.8 ~200 ppm, no complaints here.

My water pressure is so high I have to use a regulator. The packaging on mine stated that water pressure had a dramatic effect on performance. The OP's experience verifies the accuracy of their instructions. If all else fails, read the instructions.

all this stress is exactly why I always have, and always will use straight well water. I never have to add cal/mag, and its super stable.

silly water nerds. lol.

Consider yourself lucky brother. With all these lakes in the area I have to keep a close eye on my well PPM & PH as they like to swing at odd times :(
