I've recently been given an R/O unit(christmas)and decided to give it a honest effort just to see what it will actually do for my yeild and quality. After about 2 mnth I noticed that it was taking longer and longer to fill my res. It got to the point where the 100gal/day was not keeping up, must have been plugged, so I went out and bought new filters. Once again less than a month later same thing.
After 3 1/2 months of use and stressing if Im gonna have enough water tommorrow I decided to give it one more chance. I decided to test the unit, its states a 3:1 ratio, 3 being waste water and 1 being R/O
Thats a lot a water just going down the drain. I put a 5 gallon bucket under the run off and a litre container as my res and ren the R/O, guess what? it wasn't 3:1 it was 9:1! No thats not a typo! I tested it a few times and it is correct.
I cycled 2 trays with 6 different strains though start to finish with R/O and there was absolutly no difference in flavor or yeild when comparing to my tap water. I have since gone back to tap water.
My girls are happy, I'm happy and I'm sure mother nature appreciates it also.
Check the status of yours and see what its doing, personally I see no need for them if you have drinkable tap water. Everyones water is different but generally if its drinkable its growable.
Unless you have real issues with your water use an R/O, if its decent tap water you will be only pouring money down the drain.
By the way my tap water is running 7.8 Ph, and 330 PPM.
Don't waste your time and money if you don't have too.
