I have been planning to hit the open road this summer. Just not sure where to go. Going East to West. New York to Big Sur, California.

What are some places in the U.S. that are the best places you have ever been/ specific places and or land marks to see.

I have no set schedule and no real places planned out.

I was thinking about Yellowstone and maybe Colorado

In Colorado Black canyon of the Gunnison is def a must see. I've found areas north of Durango to be the most scenic/interesting although I haven't had the chance to explore a good part of Colorado. anywhere in the Rocky mountains is good.

santa cruz,Haight street,Humbolt( Arcata)( anywhere on the 101) and north to Oregon.
I've done it hitchhiking and of course by VW Bus a few times.
I liked to buy concert tickets ahead of time and plan according to the music.

I'd stop in Ohio to catch Ekoostic Hookah on the way out west.Dip down to route 70-hit Red Rocks Amp(a must see) in Co.Then skip southwest through the desert and get to Needles-San Deigo area and head north on the 101

this sir sounds like folly, always have a goal in mind, please dont walk it, save yourself allot of time and stress. drive, find water parks, camping grounds, in state parks, bring a bike for trailing, canoe for rivers, gun for what ever you can hunt(just keep quite, a water bottle will muffle the noise) i dont know what else to suggest but those sound like good wholesome plan less activities sure to please even the most up tight of assholes. not saying your one just stating.

Cleveland is probably my first stop. Going to take train most of the way. Maybe bus.

It was way to expensive to drive a car. The gas alone would be 700 dollars one way

Grand Coulee, Dry Falls and Columbia Gorge are lovely in WA. Central Oregon abounds with great spots.
White Sands would be on my short list, along with Four Corners and the stretch south of Moab UT. cn

How much does it cost to go by train/bus? If $700 to go one-way across the country is "way too expensive" then I would suggest this trip is a bad idea. Save up a few grand and do it on your own terms. you're not ready to venture around the country with no set plans or route if you have such limited funds

John Muir wilderness in the sierras is mind blowing. There are a couple of nice 10 mile loops that pass through this area. I suggest the mosquito lakes area.

Have you ever even been to a desert? To say there's NO rain, NO plants, NO life is just ignorant, it's really a diverse ecosystem. And people can/do live in the desert lol..
