Get Vegucated

My whole life I have been a red blooded meat eating omnivore.

I recently watched the movie Vegucated on Netflix.

It made me realize a few things. People eat way to much meat. The reason why so many Americans have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. So you say they have medicine for that. Medicine is not a cure it is a band aid. As soon as you stop taking the Medicine your problems are back.

My goal for most of my life is to maintain a life style where I don't need to take any kind of medicine and so far so good.
But I look at my parents lifestyle and they take 7+ medications on a daily basis. My pops takes 12+.

It really scares me.

The movie makes a big case for becoming a Vegan. But as far as health benefits, I have chosen to go the route of becoming a Vegetarian. After seeing how animals are being turned into machines to produce. Which they aren't and neither are we.
The amount of suffering experienced by these animals at the expense of humans.

I haven't told anyone about my choice, but it makes everything hard.

I spend a lot of time with my parents and usually eat at least one meal a day with them. Now I just hangout and tell them i'm not hungry when the steak is on the table.

Are there any other Vegetarians and or Vegans here? How did your family take it if they aren't?

Good for you! It really is a good choice and a compassionate one. I limit my meat intake, just not right now because I'm eating a Cuban sandwich. I go days without eating meat though and was vegetarian for 5 years. I remember getting eye rolls and chuckles years ago when I decided on becoming vegetarian. My dad was big into hunting so he was a bit saddened. Tofu will be your friend, check out the Vegan Zombie on fb, they have good recipes. You are in a good area for vegetarian choices too!

I know my parents wouldn't understand it.

They are hard working Americans and raised me to be the same. But it makes me sad to see what the lifestyle has done to them.

They did a good job raising me, but they destroyed their health in the process. My pops smokes at least a pack a day and over eats processed foods all day. He has had more than one heart attack and refuses to change.

It's mind-boggling how so many people just don't understand the importance of what they put into/onto their body. Or how they never question where their food comes from. I've been a vegan for 4-5 months, can't wait to get a food processor so I can start making my own raw vegan cheesecakes. Raw, organic fruits, veggies, sprouted nuts/seeds, superfoods/superfood powders is all you need.

I don't know if I could give up red meat, I love steak and burgers on the grill. What about fish/seafood, do you eat those? Curious...

look regardless of whether or not were meant to eat meat, we are able to be HEALTHY and live without any animal products (imho it IS A CHOICE!), the meat industry is NOT mom and pops farm from 50 years ago, and organic meat is the biggest load of bullshit there is.

I dont care how tasty chicken is, when i originally became vegan I said , theres no bacon or pork or chicken that tastes that good that i would consume because I could die, its filled with hormones, its gross, its given improper food itself, its grown cheap and fast so that it can come ot my table, if i can get mad cow disease i aint touching it, theres little to none health standards NO THANKS!!!!

Than it became about the animal welfare, and NOW only now after living this way for this long do i see clearly enough, to say hey what theyre doing to the animals is not right

so unless you plan to raise your own meat, and give it a fulfilled life, and not do what factory farms do in terms of hurting animals, and feeding them full of shit so they can fatten up, i would suggest stay away from that "Meat" because its disgusting and IT WILL kill you

dire there are different classes of vegetarianism, like lacto-ovo-vegetarians. No meat but still consume milk and eggs. Some others drop even the eggs, others drop everything but seafood. I consumed no meat, but still used butter and milk, and cheese. Gouda is good, and I love me some real blue cheese. So clinical a person in a white lab coat brings it to you!

as for me, i dont touch anything of animal product or by product including yes honey , regular white sugar, jello, all that stuff i had to give away more than 90% of my make up when i turned vegan

The one thing I will doubt I will drop will be fish. Mainly because I go fishing regularly and I feel more at ease consuming a fish that has been raised in a natural habitat and fish is far more healthy than red meat.

From what I have read I guess for consideration I would be a Pesco-vegetarian.

I've seen videos put out by PETA and I always thought there's no way all farms are like that.

But after watching this I really feel the pain of these living creatures. I mean really people say oh there dumb animals. Just be cause you are dumb doesn't mean you don't feel pain and or deserve to be treated like that.

It must be hard to avoid all animal products. I wouldn't be able to do that right off the start.

I believe we can harness cows for milk and chickens for Eggs, but we have to treat them like real living creatures.

peta is a little extreme, they are right that stuff DOES happen, whats really scary isnt the few bad apples its the standard farming practices, thats what got me, i know people are cruel and youll get one pyscho who kills animals for the fun it and tortures them , whats sick is the standard farming practices and how the animals are pretty much treated like that anyways
animals are not dumb, they are smart, they feel pain and they dont deserve what they go through on those factory farms.

id be lying if i said the 1 time when i first became one and i had pms and i just wanted chocolate so bad but couldnt find a vegan one at 4 am yeah it was hard
but it was not worth it to buy it and consume it and thats how i know i made the correct choices, i do not ever miss it, crave it, or want anything that has animal products in it ,even when push comes to shove. there have been times where its hard everyone sitting there at a restaurant eating and i get stuck with a fucking salad because the chef doesnt know what vegan is . but there is no amount of 10 minute hungriness or problems that can make me give in, perhaps i have good will power
i was a full on bloody rare steak meater eater and cheese girl, to full fledged vegan literally over night.

1.- Vegetables may contain just as much contaminants as meat.
2.- Too often people relate to animals suffering, and forget about how for nature everything is an important and it doesn't matter if you have a face or fur. Many native American tribes understood this and pleaded to give back to the earth what they took as part of a cycle, whether it was plucking a flower or hunting buffalo.
3.- Vegetables are often produced under horrible conditions for laborers, sometimes illegal laborers.
4.- It is easy to dismiss eating animal produce when all you do is look in another aisle. When you see nature working closely you will see we are just part of a cycle.

The best reason i think would be to eat healthier. If you worry about the animals suffering then that's ridiculous. I'd rather stab a lamb than chop down a tree.
420God has a very good point of view on this.

The problem is mass producing.
