Could you put yourself in the position of the animals? Being locked in a cage no bigger than 3 times your size. Any operation conducted on you is done without anesthesia. Forced sterilization. Having s steel bolt fired into your brain and or being slaughter while still alive.

Yea it would totally suck, but I don't care that much. I've seen all the videos of the inside of farms and slaughterhouses and it doesn't affect me. I could not only still eat meat, but I think I could be in there getting my hands dirty putting the bolts into their heads or slitting their throats.

I had never heard of this film and since I had Netflix already, I just watched Vegucated. I must say, I am a quivering, snotty mess right now. I don't know how I'll ever be able to look at meat the same way. I knew, first off, that conditions weren't great for animals in the industry. I just had no idea the misery and torture those poor things go through. I don't know how I could ever eat meat again after this. It's going to be a hard row to hoe because my husband is a real meat and potatoes guy and since I do all the cooking, I don't know how in the world I am going to cook meat again.

I have done a lotlotlotlotlotLOT of research in animal slaughter and have actually visited a number of "free range" slaughter houses as well as the typical ones. In america, the conditions aren't nearly as bad as PETA or other extremist groups make them out to be. I'm a huge animal lover, and I probably like animals better than humans... but I find regulated slaughter a necessary evil.

When horse slaughter became illegal in the US (many years back), there were huge farms down in florida (and all over) that would illegally kill horses in horrible, horribly abuse ways. Basically as cheaply as possible. Horse neglect and abuse skyrocketed and unwanted horses were being shipped by the truckload to Mexico or Canada to be slaughtered, where they often arrived dead. Horse slaughter is legal again and it has done a lot of good and kept a lot of horses from suffering. Basically, when you say "you are required to give each cow on your property 1/2 acre of land", that's impossible and you're going to end up with animals being slaughtered illegally in horrible circumstances. Captive bolt guns are actually extremely humane... but the process to get them to the point where they shoot them may not be... it breaks my heart to know that some of the animals are totally aware of what is happening to them... animals are so much smarter than people make them out to be. I have no clue how anyone could work in that industry.

there are a lot of careers that require a person to be a little different. Firefighters are a special kind of crazy, cops tend to have a very specific personality. I've worked an abattoir floor. You have to be capable of total detachment.

I've lost 30 pounds (unintentionally) but what most people don't realize is that they have 15-20+ pounds of toxic waste in their bodies. Mostly everyone understands the switch except my dad, who continues to think everything (gmo's, healthy eating, toxic chemicals, etc.) is just an over exaggeration. I feel as if some people get mad that I'm so persistent on it as well and always try to bring up things to make me feel insecure about the diet... like bringing up some random person they know who eats organic and has health problems, or my favorite... "there's no way you'll make it on an all organic lifestyle". I feel like people are just trying to justify their own shitty eating habits so they try to demonize healthy lifestyle habits.

Most Americans don get it. I don't understand. They refuse to change their lifestyle even though they know it is slowly killing them.

I've been making changes in my life slowly. Cut down to almost no cigarettes from about half a pack a day. I smoke about one every other day.

Yesterday my sister asked me if I had an iphone. I was like no? She asked me why I didn't? I was like cause I'm not addicted so social media and I can go through the day without hiding behind a phone.

Not all animals are raised like shit for meat. There are still a lot of family farms that put a huge amount of care into their animals. I know, I'm one of them.

Organically raised and no hormones. Grass fed beef and pork is not the same as you buy in the store and unless you're buying vegges from a farmers market or getting from your own garden I'd be willing to bet the meat from my farm has less contaminates than store bought veggies.

I have my own garden. Plant one every year. No pesticides and no fertilizers. But that only accounts for 1/4 of the food I eat.

An old friend of mine just opened an all local farm sourced store. Meats, veggies, dairy and if you want you can tour the farms this weekend because the county has a whole buy local promo. There are ways to not buy factory farmed.

And a good tip is to ask if they have any discounted ripe fruit in the back. Because they'll only last 1-3 days after you get them, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, etc. are sometimes sold cheaper. But if you're like me, you eat them within that timeframe anyways so it's really just getting a nice discount.

Using a man-made definition of a word doesn't do any justice. You're ending the life of another living being so you can eat it. What if someone told you time was up after say your 30th birthday and then chopped you up?

Without today's ability to transport food most people would starve to death in a week.

And the amount of area to grow vegetables is way more than that of pasture for animals.

If humans all decided to become vegans we'd have to kill all the animals just to plant our crops.
