Applied to be a Youth Crisis Counselor

Anyone ever done anything like this? I've been wanting to do some tangible volunteering so I applied, but I'm not sure what to expect. Apparently there's like 40 something hours of training and then a 1 year commitment. So it seems kind of heavy duty. I'm a psych major so I thought it would look good on my resume.

Not only will it look good on your resume, I know it's highly rewarding knowing that you are helping people get through trauma.
Personally never done youth crisis, but I've volunteered at a sexual assault resource center.

What was volunteering at the sexual assault resource center like?

Humbling.
I did everything from helping with fundraisers to answering phones on the crisis line.
It was very rewarding knowing that I was helping fellow survivors.
It also helped me move on from incidents in my past when I was assaulted as a child.
Would +rep but I need to spread some around.

You're walking into hell without blinders on and I applaud you're attempt at making another person's life brighter. You will be witness to all the cruelty man can muster each and everyday, you will be beaten upon in ways you never thought possible. This is not me trying to dissuade you in anyway, just a couple of words from someone who has seen the horrors of life up close and personal and was once a lost and retched waif himself.
It makes smile knowing there are some of the younger generation who actually have a grasp of what's important and relevant.

Yeah whenever something bad is about to happen to a kid the universe says "whoa hold on he's not 18!" You say some pretty retarded shit.

Well I was one of those kids when I was teenager, so I figure I'd be slightly better equipped to do this.
