Picture of setup-any input?

Hey everyone i took a picture of my 4x4x6.5 tent and wanted to see what you guys think. I am running a 600 watt mh and hps bulb and venting into the attic. The 400cfm inline fan is in the closet next to the tent and about 3 more feet of ducting runs into the attic. I am noticing that the temperatures in the tent are a lot higher that the temps in the room (12-15 degrees hotter). What could i change with my setup to only have a temperature difference of 5-10 degrees? Would it help to have the fan closer to the hood. Can i attach the fan directly to the exhaust side of the air cooled hood?

Thanks for any advice, cant wait to get startedbongsmilie

What size is your fan? I would put the fan as close to the hood as possible and minimize bending your ducting as much as possible. Each bend reduces airflow.. Also maybe run a passive intake from the floor bringing in cooler air from the outside.

the tent will run significantly cooler if the light and carbon filter have parallel ducting and their own fans. I have a 4x4 tent with a 600 also. the light is cooled by a 6 inch booster fan. the carbon filter/ventilation is handled by a 4 inch inline fan. I have a speed controller on the 4 inch fan so I can dial in ky temps accordingly, and cranked all the way up its 5 degress above ambient at most. when I first got a tent I had it set up like you and quickly learned that is an inefficient design.

heat coming from the light heats the inside of the tent. so if you take air from inside the tent to cool the light, you are using air that has already been heated.

That is definitely something that i will consider. The Carbon filter is a 6 inches so ill need another 6 inch fan rated to at least 400cfm(carbon is 420cfm). I am a little worried about the electricity bill with all of that though. How does your bill look each month growbykane? I am originally from MI also.

a 4 inch fan will pull plenty of air through that filter.the cfm that the filter is rated for is the max it can handle, not the recommended amount for effectiveness. I have three tents, plus a veg room with a 600 metal halide, a stick built bud room with 2x600hps, and a hot tub (that thing sucks energy!) and my electric bills range from $400 a month in the winter and almost $900 in the summer. Use the fan you have to run the filter on a speed controller and but a $25 6inch booster fan on amazon.com to cool the light. check out the thread i just made for more tent info

I run 2 4x4x6.5 600w tents. my power bills are about 400.00. I also run an 8000btu portable a/c for my flower room.

Just move the carbon filter outside of the tent. Right now you are cooling your bulb with air that is 15 degrees warmer ( tent air ) than the air outside of the tent. So you are not being efficient in cooling your bulb. BTW, it is not uncommon to have a 10-15 degree difference. So the lower your room temperature, the lower your tent temperature ( if your filter is outside the tent. You could always also bring your room temperature air into your tent more efficiently, but quite honestly i'd just move the carbon filter out of the tent. Just my opinion.

Your setup looks decent should be able to get a nice run in her. And like everyone else said you want to separately cool your hood and pull warm air through carbon filter from top of tent out with a separate fan. I run 2 max fan 8's, 1k hps/mh, 30 pint dehu, and a couple other things my bill on 18/6 is about 180$ a month with 12/12 a little less.

At this point i can't afford to buy anything else so i may stick with the setup i have now for the winter. What would putting the carbon filter outside of the tent accomplish? I am confused about a few things….if the carbon filter is connected to a separate fan and ducting, how do i take care of the smelly air coming through my air cooled hood and out of the tent? If i did this what would make the air going through my light any cooler?

My carbon filter is designed to fit 6 inch ducting, do you think i could stretch the 4 inch around it?

u need to blow the air from the outside of the tent to cool ur bulb...i think its what he's saying. instead of taking the hot air from the tent to cool ur bulb.

If you can't buy anything else try this out. This is how I run my 8x4 with 2 600w and it's cool as a cucumber in there. Make your fan as efficient as possible. Open up one side of your hood and let it pull air from the tent through the hood and out the top. Try to minimize bends.. And get the fan as close to your hood as possible.at this point you should have a suction going on inside your tent(the walls are sucked in) run some separate ducting in through the bottom pulling in the cooler air from your room. Give this a shot I'm pretty sure it will work and you won't need to buy anything else.

I have a passive intake vent at the bottom with a 90 degree bent pvc pipe painted black on the inside. I am going to try and put the fan closer to the hood. Does anyone know if it is ok to directly connect the fan to the hood? What would be the best way to do this? Really appreciate all of the help guys.

That makes a lot of sense. Wouldn't i need a second carbon filter for the air passing by the light?
