The Freedom To Be Fat..Does Government Have The Right To "Outlaw" Unhealthy Foods?

It takes one brief trip to a grocery store to understand that a substantial portion of our health problems and health costs reflect the fact that we don't eat real food. I'm always appalled to see what people are carting around...

If you eat lots of added sugar, added salt, processed meat, refined grains, etc., you substantially increase your risk of later getting cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Given that these are very expensive problems to have, why shouldn't people pay for their bad choices up front? Sin taxes on food would discourage people from eating bad food and ultimately lower healthcare costs by reducing disease rates, just as cigarette taxes have reduced the smoking rate and generated substantial revenues for the state and federal governments, which fund Medicaid and Medicare (programs that bear a huge portion of the ultimate costs of smoking, given the income profile of smokers).
Who ultimely profits from bad eating habits ? Naturally it's big pharma who gets the most money from the poor sating Americans .. huge money in things like high blood pressure meds, heart meds, the list is pretty limitless..
These are also some of the companies that get politicians elected..
In a lot of countries in the world, they aren't allowed to do a lot.of stuff that gets done to our food in the u.s., not even getting into GMO stuff at all..

... and folks like ADM, who control the pipeline of the most basic nutrients: sugars. Their motive for and degree of control matches that of the other mega consumer providers such as oil and pharma and formerly tobacco ... the various addictives.

My question is: what constitutes "bad foods", and who will adjudicate that? This book advances the thesis that the "good/bad food" issue is political. I am retooling my diet based on it.

I found a companion PDF for that book. Would you mind reviewing it and telling me if it is an adequate summary, based on your understanding of the complete text?

I thought that with Obamacare that medicaid had to take the less fortunate. Not being snarky, I truly thought that Medicaid had to take them.
no and i've been saying this the whole time..perhaps bloody marys with the good olives every sunday will help us to see the others' point:wink:

It is a very good summary although i take exception with the buried value judgment terms, which the book eschewed. But the highlights are there.

Well, the conclusion I got from all of that was "Carbs Bad... Inuit that eat like classy Polar Bear, Good. Vegetables and Fruit, not for human"

And that caloric intake is a function of mass, but not necessarily a driver of it.

However,
what are the effects of THC/CBD on insulin and the liver again? He neglects that subject (although, I can understand why it would be omitted).
I seem to recall there was a thread about insulin research recently addressing this matter.
Does weed allow one to cheat on their diet?

I don't eat that garbage, so why the fuck do I care. Read the label. It will say:contains 2% "or less" (haha!) flavors. You're not paying me to do research. If you ask a question, be grateful you get any answer. Especially if your reason is to prove that person wrong.
"flavor" doesn't equate to "petroleum waste". "If you ask a question, be grateful you get any answer." Your answer was dishonest. It deserves no gratitude.

Why is Obama flying to Louisiana touting how he is such a great president for a slightly lower unemployment rate, when the reason why is because people have given up looking for work?
The unemployment rate went up according to the latest figures, to 7.3%

I don't cite, so it doesn't exist! My bet is more than the 2% or less is in there. The FDA doesn't require "indirect" contact. HG Wells said advertising is legal lying. I say on here out of the goodness of my heart and get attacked for it. When I don't add any smart ass, I get challenged. Yeah. "Prove 2%" :dunce: Next time I'll just respond with: :finger:
Sure get whiny when you get caught lying, don't you?

First when Obamacare became a topic it was all about, for example, that the fat/smoker should have buy insurance to cover their inevitable costs. Now that you have them insured you are still not happy because they are, according to you, not paying enough. I want to know at what point does the government stop its intrusion into a person's life.
After they collect death taxes.

At the time of publication, there was no real way to do research on cannabinoids and metabolism.
