You can always re-pot and bury an inch or two of stem... that shouldn't hurt the ladies. You definitely need to be close using T5s and CFLs, from what I've heard... personally, I'm HIDs all the way

I never flushed my DWC... not until the last two weeks of Flower. I would imagine if you feel you need to flush, you would just use plain pH'ed water
