Once we have the SPD we can estimate the LER, QER and APOGEE correction factor. I think for now I will stick with 3500K CD 80 CRi for flowering and 4000K 70 CRi DB as the new vegging king. The other vegging contenders could be 5000K CD 80 CRi or 4000K CD 80 CRi

Because it is 70 CRi I expect it will have less red and more green, so you could say some of the extra lumens are "cheater" lumens. BUT it may still outgun the 3500K CD, very hard to say with out a spectroradiometer. I will definitely run a PAR test and see how they perform and I believe CUTTER...

The driver will put out more current as the COBs heat up, but still far below 1400mA. I am surprised it is as low as 700mA. My advice is take one of the Veros off the circuit so the remaining three can get full current. Another option, if you switch to CXB3070 or CXB3590 you will get full current.

Hello, I apologize I made that recommendation based on hearsay without doing my own testing and it looks like that configuration is not a great driver match. Unfortunately I cannot edit my post but I will ask mods if we can get that removed.

    another COB question (bit technical)

Paypal charges extra for international payments. True, it is probably already rolled into the price in most cases and it is nice to have the option to save the 4.5% by using alternative payment methods.

    another COB question (bit technical)

Hard to say because it very much depends on the circulation airflow in the tent. One thing is for sure, without a fan it would get very very hot. The 80mm fan only consumes about 2W so I believe it is well worth active cooling in most cases.

    another COB question (bit technical)

The CXB3590 4000K CD that Jerry has is 80 CRi. I tested that in flowering and it seemed to do just a good as the 3000 and 3500. But the CXB3590 4000K DB that cutter has is 70 CRi, so I assume that means less red, more blue/yellow/green. Hard to say whether the bin increase offsets the spectrum...

Adjusting to correct voltage. MW driver with cxb 3590

You probably want it turned all the way up (to the right). Are you driving a pair of CXB3590s 72V or just one? If it is a pair, the driver will reduce current from it maximum (1525mA) down to maybe 1050mA because the voltage of the COBs would be too high. So the driver automatically reduces the...

    CXB3590 1500W

Yep, 200W as described above should more than replace a 400 HPS.

    another COB question (bit technical)

Passive cooling is more realistic for very low current COBS ~ 25W ea but at 50W ea I think active makes a lot of sense. A good starting point for flowering lamp: (4) CXB3590 350K CD 36V (1) HLG-185H-C1400 (1) 3.5"X40" Heatsink with 80mm fan blowing into the center There are many heatsink...

    another COB question (bit technical)

CXA3590 and CXB3590 are available in either 36V or 72V class and he is referring to 36V class. You can tell whether it is 36 or 72 from the part number (R designates 72V and N designates 36V) Because of driver design, 72V is good if you plan on running at medium to high current, 36V is good if...

    WTF is COB lighting?

In a nutshell, COBs are very large LED arrays for a much cheaper cost/PAR W than single diodes. Because they are cheaper we can afford to run them at lower power. When you run LEDs at low power the efficiency increases significantly (current droop). So the idea is run them very efficiently to...

    Top bin COB comparison

email Jerry @ jl@kingbrite.cn or Mark @ Cutter Electronics, he recently got a batch of top bin 3070s and 3590s, ships from AUS for about $10 if I recall and offers discount code 'CUTANDROLL' Pacific Light Concepts has 3070 BBs for $36 and ships from US for about $5 These are good days for COBlins

    Top bin COB comparison

They will blend, but not evenly, so my plan is to use COBs that we know can stand on their own for flowering (2700K 3000K 3500K 4000K) and then hopefully benefit from whatever blending does occur

    Top bin COB comparison

To go a step further to try and analyze the difference in efficiency between the 3070 and 3590 top bins, since they were mounted on the exact same heatsink I adjusted the power to exactly 25W and exactly 50W and allowed the heatsink temp to stabilize. Then I used a digital probe to try and get...

    Top bin COB comparison

OK I have the CXB3070 3500K BB from PLC and a CXB3590 3500K CD from Kingbrite. I decided to scrap my original data and start over with a better methodology. This time each COB was mounted on the exact same heatsink and the heatsink was hung using chain with the holes marked so it hangs exactly...
