    Climate controlled grow fridge

So far condensation is not an issue, the evaporator on its cooling cycle draws moisture out of the air and on defrost all that moisture drains into the condensate pan under the fridge.

Now that the lights are finished, sealed and taken care of, I can focus on humidity control. After letting the systemstabilize, I've logged the data for 24 hours. Humidity is drawn down low 20% and rises in sync with the temperature. This is expected, as that's the nature of relative humidity...

    Climate controlled grow fridge

Started trimming out the light installation, sealed glass with adhesive foam gasket. Began building up and correcting the center foam areas where I cut out the freezer/fridge partition. Also starting cleaning up the spaghetti wire mess into some semblance of a wire harness. Going to build a...

    Climate controlled grow fridge

Roughed in the glass. Still have to trim everything out and seal it so it looks good. Did an extreme test to see what the reeferator can do. Let it get to 105f inside with lights on and no cooling in just 20 minutes, real hot real fast.outside ambient was 80f. Turned cooling on and system pulled...

Very roughed in, holding temp for one hour so far. That's without being properly sealed and no glass. All of which I believe will make this build even more efficient.

    Climate controlled grow fridge

I believe that allowing the lights to cool separately from the grow space is making a huge difference and the keystone to whether or not this type of build would work.

    Climate controlled grow fridge

Re wired the harnesses. Light is extremely roughed in. Emphasis on rough. With lights on, no glass and air gaps around the light, the reeferator has pulled down to the specified temp and held it for over an hour without cycling. Confident that this will work, and even more efficiently after its...

    Climate controlled grow fridge

Minor setback, thought the top was clear and all the wiring ran along the back. Wasnt the case. Cut clean through the entire harness in 2 places. Now I get to rewire the entire harness.

Thanks! Trying to stay as thrifty as possible, at least until I get a proof of concept

    Climate controlled grow fridge

So far, bought the fridge off craigslist for 50$ it was broken. Fixed it for free since it just needed some wiring replaced. Now runs great. Stripped off all the parts like ice machine, ice bin, dampers, fans thermostats, shelves, ect. Listed them all on ebay for used parts. Made 75 dollars so...

    Climate controlled grow fridge

Passive cooling, will be cutting a hole in the top and mounting this through so heat can dissipate into the outside air. This side will be resting on a glass pane that's sealed into the hole, allowing the light to pass but keeping the unit outside the cooling space

    Climate controlled grow fridge

Started breaking it down and roughing in the thermostat just to make sure it all functions and can regulate where I want.

    Climate controlled grow fridge

Yeah you are right for sure! heat is certainly going to be my main enemy in this build. However I'm hoping that since my light is kept external from the fridge altogether, I can keep the heat under control with the exception of any infrared and ultraviolet radiation. I figured if the glass door...

    Climate controlled grow fridge

I've seen many fridge builds however they all seem to use fridges that arent cooling. My plans success really relies on the fridges ability to cool. I actually found a members post from this site claiming he had done it successfully , but the thread was years old. I reached out to the person...

    Climate controlled grow fridge

yeah it will definitely be alot of work. But these types of challenges are what I really enjoy. Luckily it wont be that expensive since I already have the lights, fridges can be had for free or nearly free, and since I used to homebrew, I already have co2 tanks and alot of temperature and...

    Reeferator

This information is golden! Thank you! With this I will try single glass first and if I can control heat, I'll stay with that.

    Reeferator

This is great input, thanks! Just to clarify though, did your system still exchange air from outside the box? My plan is to have zero air exchange unless the door is opened. And run the system completely sealed from outside air using co2 supplementation. And rely on the refrigeration cycle to...

    Reeferator

Thanks for the insight! I have very little experience with hydroponic growing so this is very useful to me. I'm typically growing in soil, but with this project, some form of hydroponic growing just seems more prudent. It will be a learning curve for me.

I was concerned about this as well, I found very little information about double pane glass and its effects on light penetration. All info focused on heat transfer. And unfortunately i dont have the equipment for measuring light. I did see that double pane glass is used in some greenhouses, so...
