    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

I’ve just started a few test seeds that I got free in rapid rooters to get some extra practice on and they are under a dome I’m watering very carefully but although they aren’t getting overwatering symptoms this time any roots that reach the out of the rapid rooter die off and dry out... ideally...

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

These seedlings started getting overwatering symptoms before the second true leaf even came out and they were in just rapid rooters under a dome... I watered every time I noticed the colour of the rooter Change

Can’t atm but can get you it later... but they are finally starting to push through the bottom of netpots in my system.. after being stalled for 3 weeks. Crystal white

When leaving your rapid rooters saturated does it make a difference if you water from above or just let them wick up water?

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

What would you say is too intense? I have around 1000ppfd in the Center but only 350ppfd in my far bottom corner so if it was lighting I would expect the plants in the corners to not have the issue

Yeah it’s definitely lack of o2. But it’s not dwc it’s an nft /aero system atm. But this even happens in just rapid rooters for me. Clones are fine... but seeds always seem to take 2 weeks of overwatering waiting for enough roots to grow through hydroton so they don’t get overwatered. What...

Doesn’t seem like it’s an easy one since others seem to not have the issue. @Renfro may have experience with plugs though

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

Ideally I want to grow from seed more often but need to figure out wtf is going on here with seedlings so I don’t waste 2 -3 weeks waiting for drowning seedlings to push out enough roots to grow

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

Here for example is a seedling started in a rapid rooter. Approx 4 weeks ago now. it spent 2 weeks in a rooter tray before being moved to my main hydro system. I’ve messed with timbers from splashing the hydroton 24/7 to on 15 mins off an hour to being on 15 mins every 8 hours they just...

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

In dwc you are physically adding oxygen to the water with the air pump. Standing water wouldn’t have any. doesn’t make sense to me... I’m gonna pop a seed in a rapid rooter today and put it in 1/4 inch of standing water and I’ll take a pic in a week or two showing the drooping leaves

That’s nuts have you always had them in standing water? So your telling me the cube is saturated with water?

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

That’s strange as I’ve always had the exact opposite experience. Rockwool, rapid rooter, root riot, tried all these and they seem to wick up so much water if water is available to wick up that causes the drooping leaves from over watering. Simply having water splashing the bottom of The net pot...

Looked into jiffy pellets. Wasn’t sure if they’d clog the hydro system. Have you had any experience with them? Do they saturate as easily?

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

Mustn’t be the issue then. I need a new way to germ seeds... wish it was possible to mass germ them directly in clay balls or something that can’t become saturated lol

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

Do you have a mass of roots coming out the bottom of the rooter before you put in dwc? maybe im not leaving long enough in the rooter?

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

D do you place the rooter on top of clay balls ontop of pot or at bottom of pot

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

Sorry I didn’t make it clear. I do keep them in a dome tray in just the rooter until I see a couple of roots

    Always overwatering seeds in hydro

Over the years I’ve done a few different hydro methods and every single one I’ve had the issue with seedlings in rooting cubes. if I went the substrate around the cubes I always have the issue of wicking up and saturating the cube or not wetting the substrate and cubes drying out. ive been...
