dude, iv had plants dissapear over night from fucking slugs. go invest in some copper tape or wire (i saw copper tape nin my garden centre yesterday, genious idea). copper sends an electric shock to slugs so they wont go near the plant. if theres one, theres always more! oh, and rock salt...

dont worry about it, its some kind of moss. i always have it cos i grow things in polytunnels, where the airflow is restricted.
