Sativa's give a nicer high and take longer to mature. Indica's are quick flowering in comparison but the high is described as a couch lock. Personally I like the Sativa better but if your not the most patient person in the world your better off growing a mixed strain.

From what I keep reading about grow lights, if you can only have one, its recomended to go with a HPS. It puts out more lumens watt for watt than MH, fyi.
