Finally found this - doesn't include the secondary pigments but here's the Chlorophyll spectral absorption for spinach in ether and alcohol solutions. http://www.jbc.org/content/140/2/315.short

Someone mentioned spectrum of white LEDs and again, I'm no expert, but the CREEs look sexy as fuck to me. Regarding yellow light - yes plants can use it. To what degree varies among plants. I have no idea how much of it MJ can absorb in relation to other spectrum.

Wow, I'm getting malware warnings from AVG, Chrome, FireFox, and even Googles search engine. I might have to take a break from this site for a bit...

    Virus/malware on website!

lol. Sites no longer letting me post pictures via link. Malware messages here for the site: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fjecxgt1izk/T7zyIxT3VrI/AAAAAAAAGfo/0YFbI_6apHQ/s800/Fullscreen%2520capture%25205232012%252071652%2520AM.jpg...

Someday they'll make wider spectrum colored LEDs... Have you looked at reef forums about any of this? Many many DIY LED aquarium lights out there and they tend to be a bit more of an academic group - never once seen a lux meter over there but somehow every other person owns a really nice PAR...

I'm also realizing that the colors and whites all run at different voltages so even if they are testing under the same mA they are using different amount of energy to produce the varying lumen outputs which like you say have little to do with efficiency.

But once you have the PAR you still can't compare as plants don't use all PAR equally... Definately much more useful than lumen of course.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Very true and great point. I must admit, although I understand it better than some lighting isn't my field of study, plant biology is. If they equivalencies are equal, and I see how they might be, I still think the plant would be able to use a far larger...

I swear those one of those pages is in mW flux - but even that isn't going to help you much more than lumen rating when most all light energy for both colors is PAR. You're looking for total umol? Still won't help you compare them in the context of plants... We need someonr to compare PAR and...

Won't let me attach a linked picture... lame. Most of the info can be found direclty from CREEs website as well as the BridgeLux website. Looking at the new XRE they are deffinately getting closer. Much much better than their older diodes. Here's the specs for CREEs XREs...

I think you should probably go by the numbers released by the manufactures which do state a pretty significant difference in efficiency. I'll upload the tables direct from CREE and Bridgelux once they fix this new forum bug. I can't post any pictures till they fix that. :(

    Self-made LED panel general discussion

When it comes to comparing light when it comes to plants it's a bit tricky; Neither PAR nor Lumen are going to give you the whole picture. Say you have 100w of 450nm light. All of the 100w of light will be PAR but that doesn't mean all 100w of the light will be used by the plants. You see...

I haven't read through all of this yet but wanted to toss in that Bridgelux are American made in CA and CREE are the Chinese made LEDs - American company but they moved their manufacturing overseas. Or at least that's the last I heard.

I want to start an Aquarium...

Three of my tanks were booted to the cold garage after our last move - blew my mind how much you can spend heating and lighting tanks. Summer's not too bad but in the winter the electric bill goes through the fucking roof due to them.

Get a taser. In the US you technically can't be a MMJ patient and a gun owner - one or the other. They don't always enforce it but if shit hit the fan a gun can get you into additional trouble.

Thank you. Yup all CFLs for that. I've since moved into HIDs but those CFL buds were amazing and a total blast to grow.
